just to say I survived the heat from yesterday – 43 – today we are cooler at 41 🙂

Weight loss is a disappointment at only quarter of a pound. Still, better down than up. Had a swim most days but it never seems to impact on my weight. I did have a one slice of bread chicken sandwich just before bed last night as I was getting the shakes. Should really have done a blood test to see if I really needed it.

Big job today. Just taken deliver of £90 of Irish sausage and bacon. All has to be bagged up and put in the freezer to last a few months.

Oh, and Heidi, interesting what you say about less problems with reflux. That is happening for me too, although I didn’t even realize it until you said it. I’m also able to fast now without my gastritis flaring up, which I couldn’t do at this time last year. So that’s a win too!

Yesterday turned out to be a bit rough. I was struggling to get my glucose stabilized all day without overshooting, but just ended up on an all day rollercoaster. Then I messed up with my evening meal as I had imitation crab in nori wraps, thinking it was low carb, but my glucose shot up and down again, so I had to eat some greek yogurt to help stabilize things before bed. Also, I may have damaged my cgm by going swimming. It is supposed to be water resistant for 30 min and I was only in the pool for 20-25, so it should have been okay, but it was giving me some erratic numbers last night. It may have dried out as it seems to be doing better today while my glucose levels are more stable, as I am fasting, and the numbers are matching pretty well with my regular monitor. We’ll see how it does when I start eating again.
I’ve been feeling better today and my blood glucose has been pretty steady between 4.3 and 4.8 while I’ve been fasting. I did have some nori snacks for some salt and because I got quite hungry this afternoon. Only 15 calories though, so it shouldn’t impact the fast much. I’m hoping to keep going until tomorrow morning for a 36 hour fast. Might have a bit of bouillon though to get me through this evening.

Pootle, all those veggies sound wonderful. An embarrassment of beans …. is that like a murder of crow or a clouder of cats I wonder? Either way, I’m sure you’ll enjoy them.

My positives right now are ….

🌻🌻 a lovely chat with eldest DD today, she and her man are looking to move closer to us and they think they may have found ‘the’ house.

Antigone, well done on 2 kgs. That is a great result. Mokovex, you have been through quite a time of it. I hope this site can become your safe place just for you. Hope you can feel open and share any worries, it is a great loss over the last 2 weeks and it is great your hubby is doing this with you. Mine didn’t and does’nt need to (tall and slim) but a BP and cholesterol scare made him look again at his daily sandwich and when I ask if he want rice with his bolognaise he now says no, and no to rice and potatoes. His treat is a couple of small cakes when we do the shopping and 2 croissants for breakfast – but that used to be 4 croissants.

Pootle, looking forward to your results. I think nurse know it all will be avoiding you from now on. Keep up the good work Shetland Lace, we all get to know our own bodies after a while and can trust our own instincts.

As for me, no weigh in today as Tuesday has always been my day but I do know there is some loss. I had a swim this morning as it is going to hit 43 degrees later and even at 11am it was 33. Don’t envy us – I think people in the UK have realised the heat is not all it is cracked up to be – sometimes it can be unbearable. We will batten down the shutters and try to stay cool. We do have aircon in the lounge but it costs a fortune to run and after a while running the atmosphere becomes damp and clammy so we prefer dry fans.

Hello everyone & sorry for my absence but I had a bit of a set back on Saturday with my stitch wound breaking down & looking as though it was leaking pus. I was quite panicky & got in touch with the hospital which is nearly an hours drive away. My husband drove me down & I saw the ward resident doctor who then phoned my consultant & thank goodness I have been given a course of antibiotics & will be seeing my Consultant tomorrow! My knee is red & sore but the doctor said it’s just a surface breakdown not deeper & didn’t even need a dressing to cover it 🤔
I’m just eating what my husband is giving me including breakfast that I don’t usually have so I know my weight has increased so at the moment I’m a poor example on here but I will get back on track when I’m fitter & more mobile again.
You are all doing so well keep on going 👏👏

I have a couple of veg garden positives:

🫛🫛 I have an embarrassment of beans. Trying to find time to make bean chutney… which I will give away because of the sugar content!

🍆🍆 (no emoji for butternut squash!) the squash have produced about 15 good sized ‘fruits’. Hope they ripen OK.

🥒🥒 (no emoji for courgette either) Courgette’s are really doing their thing… soup made and eating at every meal!!! 😄

I am a relative newbie, but achieved my weight goal and put diabetes into remission at the end of last year! Now working on maintaining a healthy balance.

Great that your hubby is doing it with you, mine did last year and still eats the low carb meals with me, but he now has a selection of “no-nos” in a kitchen cupboard. At first I found that a huge temptation, but it doesn’t seem too bad now.

Heidi, I think the diabetes clinic nurse is a law unto herself. We are not permitted to make an appointment with her, she decides when she needs to see you and makes an appointment!!! 🙄
After our first encounter, I don’t think she will be keen to see me again! 🫣 😅
I hope to see the GP when the results are in.

I’m back after a very long absence absence. I lost three stone back in 2017 and successfully maintained until towards the end of lockdown. Well, long story but a stressful family event and a house move saw me put on a stone and a half. I was then successfully tackling that towards the end of last year when I had a breast cancer diagnosis, surgery and my father died.

This year has been one of survival as I’ve had chemotherapy and so now I find myself three stone heavier than my ideal and pretty weak. I have radiotherapy daily until the 20th but I’m now back on the horse and trying to get it sorted.

Began BSD two weeks ago and have lost about 7lb. I have gone back to Pilates after many years away from it and trying to do a daily walk at least five times a week.

Hubby is doing this with me, which is great. So I’m feeling positive that I will get back to health. I have a work Christmas party right at the end of November so a good date to aim for.

Hi Pootle. Will the BS test mean that you see the nurse again? I loved your description of the pleased surprise your GP showed with your great results. The nurse’s reaction should be a picture!

Thanks DCT and AF for the kind thoughts. This week has been much better – we managed a few days away at a lovely quiet country cottage. A great way to just breathe and recharge. I mainly stuck with the healthy eating, but there were a few restaurant meals in there. Still I lost a bit more, so am now down 10.6 kilos after 11 weeks on this reset. You are right AF that the non-scale victories are just as good. My trousers are fitting better, my watch strap is one hole further. And I am really hoping that a ring I bought last year will soon go on safely (ie come off again easily!). Healthwise I am sleeping much better, my knee has stopped hurting, and I have much less of a problem with reflux. What’s not to like!

Dawn, so pleased to hear that you have a date for the op, and good luck with all the preparation.
AF how interesting to hear that your cat may be alerting you to glucose lows. Animals are so clever!

So it turns out that I may have a service cat. She sometimes jumps on me in the early morning hours but there didn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason as to why. But 2 days in a row she’s done it when my blood glucose has gone below 3 mmol/L. So it seems she is waking me up out of hypos. Very interesting.

Hello Tulip et al. Despite a shaky start I have lost just over 2 kilos since Monday morning 🙂 Very pleased with that and my BP has dropped as well. Working indoors to avoid the heat today but out this evening for a bbq….should be able to avoid bread hopefully. Everyone seems to be doing well and Tulip has sworn in! Well done folks

Hi All, Verano I know the admin team are usually on it so this spate of scammers is not normal. However, it is August and if it is a team of one he/she might be on holiday. Lets hope it gets tidied up or we will just have to posts lots to push them away. Another idea is not to comment ‘reported’ as it pushes them to the top of the threads, I do it so others don’t have to worry but maybe no more.

My weight is still okay. Sat out having brunch this morning and had to come in as it is so hot, and we are under a shaded gazebo. Right now it is 32 and due to get hotter later in the day. I am staying indoors.

This is a good thread to have at the top of the list. We need reminding the late results aren’t all-out numbers. We all seem to forget about the non-scales victories, sometimes not even realising they’ve happened ….. I’m certainly guilty of that.

I too have allowed the pounds to creap back up and currently have about a stone to ditch. However, I’m already starting to eat more on plan (difficult to go fully on plan, as not currently living at home), but I’m starting to feel the benefit even now … more energy and sleeping better.

Like others posting, I too am hoping to get into my smaller clothes comfortably again …. fingers crossed 🤞🏻.

Hi- thanks for posting Arcticfox and Dawn- that’s the boost I needed to get back on the site and hopefully back on the diet too….my NSVs are longer term- when I hit my weight loss goal likely to tally with- to get back into my smaller clothes I was in when I reached my goal! I think I’m quite a long way off that- so- mmm- get back into my ‘medium’ work top without looking like an overstuffed sausage would be fab. I’ve borrowed my (slim) boss’s bottom drawer emergency top that was already 2nd hand when she had it 😅……lol….so- and I guess get back into the ‘medium’ clothes that fit me last summer generally…..that will probably tally with around a stone/ stone and a half weight loss.
Another NSV would be to get back on to the healthy eating long enough to start feeling better….I feel bleurgh and sluggish at the moment and I know that the med diet usually perks me up quite a lot…..

Hi All- I’ve been absent for a while with just managing daily life really and also been quite lax with the diet also (have gained some weight)….I think I’m going to weigh tomorrow to see exactly where I am at and hopefully get my act together a bit. I was reminded to come on as a couple of peeps posted on the NSV thread so I had an email and thought- ooh- time to get back on it! Although I’m feeling somewhat wiped out at the moment, eating well is likely to help!

Reading back about zippers closing reminds me that I have a very nice down puffer jacket that I haven’t been able to wear for 6 years. It would be really nice to get it done up before the really cold weather hits in December and January. With my swim suit being almost too loose on me now, I am hopeful that I can do this!

DCT – yes the car situation is sorted now and I am back on the road with my parents’ old car and they have the newer one and seem very happy with it. So a big relief.
Dawn – we’ll have to find that NSV thread and bring it to the top again even if just to drown out all the advertisements!
It does seem like my NSV is real. I went for a swim today and my suit was looser again. So headed in the right direction. I was super busy yesterday as my hay was cut in the late afternoon, so I spent all morning and part of the afternoon taking down my t-post and electric tape fences so they could get into all the nooks and crannies without any difficulty. I was really really hungry by dinner and didn’t want to take the time to make what I had planned (salmon patties with kale chips), so I ended up doing something not great and had gluten-free potato gnocchi that was at the back of the store cupboard. I am wearing my replacement CGM and I did try to blunt the glycemic effect with lots of veggies, olive oil, pesto and mozzarella cheese. I also had diluted apple cider vinegar before and went for a walk up the hill after. It stopped me from spiking up quickly, but actually resulted in a similar pattern that I used to see with frozen pizza which is a double peak followed by an overnight rollercoaster with 2 serious hypos. My system does rebound on it’s own, but all that cortisol and noradrenaline caused a big spike, followed by another crash a couple hours later, so even though I didn’t wake up fully from it, I am sure it is interrupting my deep sleep. Very eye opening. So probably not having gnocchi anymore as a regular meal. Only as a once in a while treat maybe, and probably only for lunch so it doesn’t affect my sleep. Looks like I’ll have to treat carbs like caffeine and only have them early in the day.
Anyway, I suppose the other NSV is just how well I’m feeling overall. I have a bit more energy and spring to my step on walks, my joints hurt less, and I am enjoying most of my meals (exception was a tofu tikka masala that did not work out – need to try a bit of a different spice blend, I think!). I will spend some time planning meals tomorrow for the week ahead and see what other fun things I can come up with.

I think that this site is only kept going by admin because ‘we’ original posters still post. Since the new ‘paid for’ 800 website was started a few years ago I think that we’ve been ‘looked after’ by admin and I’m really pleased about that. When you think about it there really isn’t a ‘good’ reason, financially, to keep this site up and running and I’m really thankful for it.

Can I just say on behalf of the genuine posters that this site has become an absolute mess with scammers, people selling stull and people not on subject. If you look at the last dozen posts at least 8 of them are scams. If admin can block genuine posters because they don’t like what they are saying or think they are a bit suspect why cant they keep these people off the site. I know when I report something they usually come back saying thanks for the report but right now they don’t seem to be doing anything to clear them off.

Admin, can you please do your job and make this site a safe a decent place for people who are following a diet plan. Maybe if I report this post you will take some notice but you seem to be falling down on your duties right now.

Hi everyone, had a lovely haircut yesterday. What is now called a Pamela Anderson, soft shaggy bob which I can add some curls and put behind my ears for nights out.

Weight remains the same but that is how it goes after a decent loss. Still sticking to it and had half an hour in the pool this morning before it got too hot. 36 degrees yesterday and heading for 39 today. Monday it will be 42. We just shut the house up and stay indoors. Don’t let the heat in or you will struggle to get it out again.

There used to be a NSV thread which I posted a couple of goals on years ago but can’t remember if I ever achieved them! I enjoyed writing a food plan the other day, it took a bit longer than it used to as I’m trying to keep my fat lower but it’s lovely knowing what I’m having each day and not having to think about it. Which makes me think I should be posting some positives too. I’m now indefinitely based at my parents, as Mum is now in serious decline, but there are still positives to be had.
🙂🙂 my parents having finally agreed to it, we had a stairlift company do a survey at their home on Tuesday. Happily they will be installing the lift on Monday. Excellent service and not a moment too soon for Mum.
🙂🙂 have found solice and a little balm for my soul, pottering in Mum’s garden. It’s only a tiny urban garden, but somehow there is always a little calm and colour out there.
🙂🙂 my lovely OH driving a nearly 400 mile round trip on Tuesday, to bring me things I needed from home for my extended stay and to install the new electric supply to feed the stairlift for my parents.

Finally, a ‘looking forward to’ kind of positive … I’m looking forward to my son and his daughter (our youngest GD) visiting this afternoon.

I think I have a NSV. It was a much cooler day yesterday with some rain. Only a high of 22 C. I had to go into town to the car dealer to deal with the new car. I am not buying it, but my parents are. Then I am buying their car which is more practical for me anyway and less money so that has brought my stress level down hugely. Anyway, because it was cooler, I put on a pair of jeans I hadn’t worn in a while. I think they were a bit looser than they were. I have the same ones in the next size down that were slightly snug around the waist when I last wore them, so I will have to dig them out and see how they are fitting now and then I will know for sure if I have lost some inches. Well, maybe more like millimetres so far, but better than nothing.

Hi Pootle and everyone. Sorry for delay today been rushing everywhere plus the fact I was highly annoyed this morning when I stepped on the scales. Zero….nothing. no loss at all this week despite vigorous 2.5 mile walk 6 out of 7 days early in the morning.
Not drifted off the diet at all.
Felt awful this morning. Not fair lol!
It’s weird…like i said im stuck at this weight thereabouts which has been on me the longest. 2.5 stone was over past few years.
I remember being on the scales years ago trying to lose weight from more or less this point. Not using this diet though. And every week I weighed the same hardly lost anything. So here I am again.
Hoping for good things next week. X

ARCTICFOX I hope you’ve got your replacement car sorted now, and I’m glad you still managed to have an online therapy session and tackle the binge eating session experience. It sounds like you are getting to grips with the glucose situation too. Well done with it all, especially with the farm to run (and, if I remember rightly, another job too?).

DAWN I’m so sorry to hear that you are having to wait for your surgery and hope that you will be ok till 1st Sept. Good luck with the food planning for between now and then. I’m sure that will help, not only with some weight loss but also in terms of something positive to focus on.

How is everyone else doing this week? I have no loss to report but have been getting in the groove of going to the gym most days to exercise and relax. For me, establishing habits is really important, so I’m going as often as possible even if I don’t yet do an awful lot when I’m there. I just know I need to ingrain myself into the mentality of going there today rather than putting it off till tomorrow. Hopefully after a month or so of doing that it will become just what I do . . . and hopefully then I will start to see some difference in body tone and strength as well as the weight starting to come off. I’m getting better about staying on track food-wise, though definitely still much room for improvement. So 🤞I will start seeing some gradual but consistent loss soon.

My update – lost a kilo this week, which I’m very happy about. I’ve worked out that if I eat more than around 30g carbs a day the weight just doesn’t shift. So I’ll try to stick to that. My trousers are all very loose now though, so I’m losing fat which is the aim, after all.

I had a night away from home for work yesterday… killing 2 birds with 1 stone… last night’s work followed by an ‘in person’ meeting today within 25 miles of each other… all 175 miles from home.
Great, I was so looking forward to a relaxing night at the 3 star country hotel I had booked, with a leisurely cooked breakfast. Not to be! The hotel phoned me to say they had a problem, so had transferred me to their ‘sister’ hotel for the night! The sister ‘hotel’ was a pub with self catering apartments… no coffee in the room, no breakfast available (pub was shut this morning) no tv in the bedroom, on a main road, with about the hardest bed I have ever tried to sleep on! I swear the floor would probably have been more comfortable!!!
So disappointing!! Especially when the hotel had come highly recommended! It was less expensive, but that wasn’t what I wanted!!
The only saving grace was the steak salad, which was very acceptable. But that didn’t make up for the shortcomings! 😢😢😢😢😢

Just three more nights until we spend two nights in a small hotel near Rome airport then home.

Eating pretty well. Had a pink grapefruit juice today. It was wonderful. Haven’t had a fruit juice in probably 8 years … this one was magnificent! So good to eat/drink something and really enjoy and appreciate rather than have it constantly and you don’t even ‘taste’ it.

Anyway hope everyone is doing well and that August is really turning out to be ‘Awesome’ in every way.

When I get back I’ll join you all again.

Hi everyone, sorry I haven’t been posting, I’ve been a bit pre occupied waiting to hear when my gallbladder removal is happening. I chased it up today as still hadn’t heard anything, no date had been booked for it yet (even though I had been told I should have had it within a month of my hospital discharge at the start of July because the gall stones had caused the acute pancreatitis)after my phone call today it has been booked in for 1st Sept and I’m keeping everything crossed that my gallstones don’t cause further problems before then. I feel I can concentrate enough now to create a food plan for the coming week and work on getting some more weight off before my operation. I haven’t caught up on posts properly yet but I hope all of you who have been having difficult times lately are ok. Dawn XX

Hi everyone,
I was struggling with my fasting glucose again over the weekend, probably due to stress as my diet was still ok. However, I was so fed up with it by Monday evening that I embarked on another 24 hour fast, but my numbers still weren’t settling after that, even with a walk and a dance session, so I kept going overnight again and am now about to break the fast at 38 hours. I felt really hungry around 2pm Tuesday and my blood glucose was at 3.2, but I was feeling good otherwise and not shaky or lightheaded. I checked it again an hour later and it was back up to 4.7. Thanks to the dawn phenomenon it was up to 5.0 this morning. So now I will eat regular meals but lower carb and may try another fast on the weekend. My replacement continuous glucose monitor is meant to arrive today. We are in a bit of a cool spell, so hopefully I won’t be sweating as much and it will stay on this time, as I could really use a break from stabbing myself multiple times a day.

Hi all, after my night out my weight shot up but is back down again today. So my weight loss for the week is now 3.5lbs so still not a bad result. No more events until September and still have 3.5lb to lose to reach my 7lb goal. Still happy.

Our heatwave is on its way back and it is 28 today but I am indoors and I am freezing cold. Will probably feel it tomorrow when it hits 35 degrees.

Hi all, had my weekly weigh in yesterday – forgot to post. I have lost 4lbs. However, we were out last night eating and drinking so not weighing for a few days. Not a bad quiz night and we came second which isn’t bad as there are only 2 of us on our team and others have up to 6.

Will defo check out the cauliflower bread as my plan to reboot yesterday was derailed by a fresh sourdough bake! ( and I have some caulis to pick) Having ‘failed’ on day 1, I decided to go through my wardrobe – I’ve removed anything that’s even slightly snug for ( hopefully) a nice surprise in a month! I have discovered that I no longer have the energy to work several 14 hour days on the trot without consequences! 🫣 Still, I really enjoyed being back in full swing. Just made a mental note not to take a big job on again!
I made the cauliflower bread last night, as I need a packed lunch tomorrow. I have liked the broccoli version, Hope this is as good!

I’ve had some stress this week as my car finally died on the way to my counselling appointment Fri evening. Three garages couldn’t figure out what the issue was 18 months ago so told me to drive it until it died. So I was car shopping yesterday and think I’ve found one. It just needs to pass inspection. In spite of that my blood glucose was in normal range this morning even with having a later dinner.
I was able to quickly get hold of my therapist and switch to an online appointment. We unpacked why I was so upset about the diabetic lady binge eating in my support group. It was multi- faceted with me saying it was like staring my future in the face if I don’t get my issues sorted, and then she pointed out that I had watched someone self-harm in real time and so of course that would be upsetting. That really hit home because of course if she had been self-harming in another way, it may have been dealt with by the social worker host, but because it was food she let it slide. Also I think because I was already getting back on track myself it didn’t feel good to be around others who seemingly aren’t trying as hard, if that makes any sense. I told my therapist that I want to be hanging out with others who are also trying and working hard. I know she runs some trauma and eating disorder groups. I think they are on break for the summer but I might ask her about joining one in the fall.
In the meantime, thank goodness for this forum and all of you! I feel that everyone here is working so hard even if the numbers on the scale don’t always show it for us.

I should start posting positives more often again too. First one for today is that my fasting glucose this morning was down to 5.4 even after eating dinner at 7pm and having a few more carbs in the form of tortilla chips with my salmon and kale. I was really hungry and they were calling to me from the cupboard. So nice to be back in normal range. I had missed lunch though thanks to the second sort of positive, which is that my car died in spectacular fashion on the way to my counselling appointment. Thankfully it died only 1km from home and I was able to get it right off the road onto the verge. I got hold of my counsellor and we switched to an online appointment instead. So I spent yesterday getting it towed back home and then looking for a new used car that wouldn’t break the bank. And I may have lucked out. One dealer had a vehicle just traded in. It is only 1 year newer than mine and almost as much mileage but very well maintained. If it passes the safety inspection I think I will go for it. It is a much roomier vehicle too, which I really need here on the farm. So a bit of a blow financially, but it could have been worse and I should be back on the road by the end of the week. Cannot be without a vehicle way out in the sticks! I always realize how vulnerable I am without a car as I can’t even fill and carry my big jugs of drinking water without one.
