I haven’t received the book yet but I have read The Fast Diet and also the Blood Sugar Diet.
Am I right in saying that Fast 800 is a combination of both?

Hi Halicarnassus. Fast 800 is one of the three variants of the BSD. If you click on “BSD” in the website toolbar, you will see these explained. But this quote from the explanation sets it out pretty well: “There are three options, starting with the more intensive BSD Fast 800 (fasting on 800 calories daily for up to 8 weeks). This approach is likely to give the fastest benefit in terms of losing fat and improving your blood sugar.

Some will choose the more flexible 5:2 BSD, which involves only 2 days of fasting (800 calories a day) and doing the low carb med style diet on the remaining 5 days without having to calorie count.

For those who need a slower, more gentle approach there is the BSD Low Carb, which simply involves sticking to low carbohydrate Mediterranean style diet, without counting calories.”

In fact many/most of us on here follow Fast 800 together with a stricter limitation on carbs, when we are looking to lose weight. Many aim around 50g a day: some who are more carb-sensitive go for 20g a day. Hence the references eg to 800/20. Hope that is helpful.

Good luck in your journey!

Hi Halicarnassus, there are different reasons behind these diets. For those with blood glucose issues (diabetics and pre-diabetics) the Fast 800 for 8 weeks very quickly breaks down the visceral fat stored around the liver and pancreas which gives excellent results with BG control. It is also an excellent way to lose weight quickly using a short-term fix as long as you then go on to a maintenance plan so as not to put the weight back on. The 5:2 is a gentler but very effective way of losing weight and the Mediterranean is a good long term eating plan, very good for maintenance and as a way of life.
