Hi Ebs
I rarely made any recipes with legumes and when I did, I wouldn’t have much more than 1 tablespoon.
To my knowledge Courgette is zucchini and I’ve never seen it sold already spirallised. I just do it myself with a spiralliser
We have not checked the qualifications of anyone posting here. If you are have any health related symptoms or concerns, you should contact your doctor who will be able to give you advice specific to your situation.

Thanks Linda will have to buy an electric spiraliser or ask my local green grocers if he can get some bags of spiralised zucchini in, dont see why not .

S anyone else having trouble logging into the 12 week program site. It keeps bombing out or just not loading website

I too am a crocheter marion53 so would love to hear about your crochet project. I find that my crochet and knitting keeps my mind occupied so less tempted re snacks👍! Good luck on your BSD journey and this blog is great for hints and tips, just ask….. someone always knows the answer. LOVE catching up with this blog of a morning, finding out where everyones up to, good choices today everyone.

Good morning ,
Granny I’ve been crocheting and knitting on and off since 10yrs old and more so in the last 2years. Find it very relaxing. The project I’ve started is ‘Rose of Avalon’ blanket from Deramores. A bit more challenging than usual.I like reading the forum in the morning too. Gives me motivation for the day. I think LindaA post is so informative and positive. I shall read it every time I need a nudge to keep going.
Have a good day everyone.

Morning, day 7 today I think. Wow my head has been all over the place but much clearer this a.m. at last. Thank heavens I can read on here that all is normal.
Finally got a g rip on carb counting. Nearly passed out when I looked up a baked potato! I never had one I may add so yesterday was very good at 27 grams of carbs.
Granny and Marion, I got myself a starter magazine with crochet hooks and wool but I have not yet managed to even cast on!! I shall have another go. I really want to do a traditional granny blanket made up of squares for my first project. Well I am a granny so I thought that was apt.
Weigh in tomorrow. Fingers crossed. Off to shops today for more supplies. Onward and downward.
Grateful thanks to all for much needed tips. x -
Morning/afternoon everyone
End of week 1 and I’ve lost 7 pounds 😀 I use My Fitness Pal and it shows I’m not getting enough salt. Anyone have suggestions please? Thank you
Val -
Try having a small handful of salted peanuts, or adding it to dinners as much as possible? Do you use salted butter etc as opposed to unsalted.
If I have the “not enough salt” symptoms, usually when drinking lots of water, I just have a handful of peanuts and it usually does the trick. -
Hello everyone. I’m very new to this so please bear with …
After 9 months of struggling with THE worst yeast infection, I went to the doctors (which I avoid at all costs wherever possible, hence the length it took me to go) and they did a blood test. The day after boxing day, I got a call from the doctor to tell me that I have type 2 diabetes. I seen the diabetic nurse on 4th Jan and my Hb1ac (think that’s what it’s called) was 100. I weighed in at 16st, which came as a shock as I’d weighed myself 2 days before and was 14st – my scales were obviously broken!!!! She put me straight onto metformin and told me that I need to loose weight. I had done a bit of research between hearing from the doctor and seeing the nurse and had already ordered the BSD book. When I told the nurse that I would lose at least 2st before I see her again in 3 months, she looked at me in disbelief as if to say “I’ve heard that one before!” But I am determined!!
I read the BSD book and immediately started to cut out carbs and started planning to start the diet yesterday. I felt disgusted when I looked at the usual crap that I would usually buy in the supermarket – I have never bought so much veg in my life!! The house is still full of Christmas chocolate and I am not tempted in the slightest. My OH and kids are not eating it either as my diagnosis seems to have come as a wake up call for them too. Not quite sure what to do with it!
I weighed in at 15st 7.5lb yesterday morning (on my nice new scales) and started 800 cal BSD yesterday. and found it so easy. No cravings or hunger.
Breaskfast: 2 medium eggs, scrambled and a grilled tomato
Lunch – Cottage cheese with tomato and cucumber (I had to find a supermarket that stocks full fat cottage cheese as my local tesco doesnt!)
Dinner – Chicken breast on white bean mash with french beans
Couple of cups of tea and loads of water.
798 cals (using my fitness pal)I’ve been walking for the last couple of days too making sure I get my 10,000 steps in and want to start running in a couple of weeks.
Got up this morning after just one day on the diet and I have lost 2lb!!!! A long way to go as I would like to lose about 3.5 – 4st but it’s a fantastic start! I aim to lose at least 2st before I have my bloods done again at the end of March. That diabetic nurse is not going to recognise me!!
Bring it on!!!!!
-
Morning all, missed weigh-in yesterday due to circumstances out of my control! Checked in this morning with a slightly disappointing 3.6lb loss for the week. But it’s below the pre-christmas weigh in and my blood pressure is also in the normal range. …. and there has been wine. and not much exercise so to be expected! This time next week I should be free and clear of festivities for a few weeks so will be able to turn my attention more fully to the plan. In the meantime mini-goal is to lose another 2lbs. Keep up the good work fellow travellers!
-
Hi everyone, just joined this forum. Me and my diabetic partner (I’m not diabetic) have been doing the level 3 version for a week and have both lost 3 lbs. We also did about 10 days before xmas and lost 6lbs of which 5 lbs went back on! However, overall weight change over xmas was -1lb so my point is don’t wait for a ‘suitable time’ just get on with it and deal with holidays and trips off by doing level 3 for a few days. we’re retired so do a lot of tripping off and holidays. We need to stop thinking about these trips as excuses to eat! My birthday this weekend so we’re off to London and Rochester for the weekend BUT will still be doing level 3. Its very easy to do whilst eating out we’ve discovered. Looking forward to reading how we all get on. Good luck to all!
-
I started on 2nd January. By Wednesday I had a headache and felt pretty rough but by Thursday I felt great and so far feeling good. The 1st 48 hours are hard.
-
Thank you so much Linda A for all that information, It’s really helpful and answers a lot of questions I had and maybe was saving for a bit later. Day 4 for me today and I notice that the crepey skin on my arms is much improved and a pea-sized hard lump on my arm is disappearing! Exciting to see what happens next!
-
Happy Tuesday everyone! And well done all of you! I was aiming to start yesterday but Life got in the way!!!!!
Drank too much wine, ate smoked salmon Christmas left overs ( but in 3 low carb wraps ) and generally felt s..t !
Have to see the Doc on Thursday ( received a letter post blood tests) I know my cholesterol and triglycerides and possibly my blood sugar will be raised …….I’m a nurse used to managing my own clinics and advocating good health etc etc…..so I think I have a destructive addictive gene! I’m ordering my shopping on line and am reading the BSD book and recipe books and other great sites that really have great creative recipes on them , Diet Doc, IHIB ( I’m human I breathe is excellent and fun) so there is just NO EXCUSE!!!
My dear hubby has gone back to work overseas and is doing a million times better than I am …….using the recipes that I created for him…..he’s just so focused and he’s saying he’s feeling so much better and alert……..he could also not believe the calories in a baked potato, a lowly tomato, a handful of rice……So he’s cut it all out!
ValerieRobb, you can buy Low Salt and add a tiny bit to your meals….on this way of eating we excrete more salt….so our electrolytes ( chemicals) can go out of sinq…..causing headaches, cramps and dizziness ..it might be also worth upping your magnesium in the form of spinach, pine nuts, almonds and you can buy magnesium oil for the bath which helps and is absorbed!
Tesco’s sell spiralised courgette…it’s great !
The Hba1c blood test is a more accurate way of measuring blood sugars over an 8-12 weeks period ….rather than the one if ‘ snap shot’ of a fasting blood sugar ….blooded sugar do have peaks and troughs throughout the day so this is a better indicator …normal levels should be below 42 mmols………
I’ll keep you posted after my visit on Thursday. Good Luck peeps! -
Hi Lizcuz
I read the book over the Summer and it is now on its fourth daisy chain lend (sorry about the royalties DrM.) so am not too familiar with the details – but what is level 3?
-
Hello! I started 3 days ago although I gave the booze away on the 1st Jan. This gave me a week to detox from that before I started. Headaches are pretty good now but last week detoxing from alcohol was pretty tough. I enjoy preparing the food as counting calories helps me keep my mind off food. I am a teacher so I am fortunate to be on holidays at the moment which has helped as I have been able to start a fitness schedual as well as relax at the beach.
I have lost 2 kilos already.Good luck to us 👍😜
-
Hi Everyone!!
Well day 1 week 2…. Weigh in this morning and I’m 5lbs/2.2kilos down.. Yay!! I’m so pleased….
Easier week for me this week as although I am eating out, it is at a local pub so I can have steak and veg so a really easy meal to calorie count…. Apart from that I have no plans so all meal are organised and food bought. Lovely!
I feel really good in myself which I think is a combination in the change of diet and also giving up alcohol. I feel less lethargic and more alert. I also used to have an ache in my left side which I’ve had for a while, I’m not diabetic however I have had a bit of a research which I know can be lethal, however that is where the pancreas is so maybe my body was sending me warning signs. Well this ache has all but gone….. This can only be a good thing right!!
Onwards and downwards people… yippee!!
Much Love,
Rebecca xx -
FYI : zucchini and caulifour rice are now sold in Woolworth stores in Australia, although doing it yourself is so cheap and easy.
-
Sorry, spiralised zucchini is sold in WW😜
-
Well done Everyone. – great losses and very inspirational.
Day 4 for me too K8sgettingthin. Feeling brighter and lighter. Glad you are noticing improvements.
Trying my best to think of all the lovely food that I can eat rather than obsess about what I must not eat.
-
Thanks for the info Candoit, I made cauliflower rice on Sunday which was delicious, trouble is all 3 of us had gas, the dog wasn’t amused! Great to know that Woolworths has spiralised zucchini, fed up with mine turning to mush, can anyone recommend a good spiraliser? In the meantime will buy some from Woolies.
-
Its the basic low carb mediterranean that you follow all the time for maintainance. In the book it says you can start at level 1 which is 800 cals a day for 8 weeks or level 2 which is 5:2 of 5x low carb med and 2x 800 cals or level 3 which is just low carb med. He recommends starting at level 1 then going to level 2 if too tough then level 3 for maintenance, but we are losing quite well on level 3 so far and will go up the levels as weight loss slows down. See what happens!
-
Well only day 2 for me, but I was so chuffed that I had lost 3 pounds when I weighed in this morning, totally given me a boost.
So although the scales tipping over into 13 stone territory last week was the kick up the bum I needed to get me onto this WOE I am glad that the extra Xmas pounds are going and I am on track to lose the 2 stone I need to lose in the next few months.
Exercise needs to be my next goal, I only managed 7000 steps yesterday and nothing else, but am hoping that by the weekend I will be ready for something more structured on that dept.
Does anyone have any recommendations for any good ready meals? I need stuff for work as I won’t always be organised enough to make salads! I used to eat lots of fresh soups but don’t know if any fit into the plan?
I have tins of sardines in tomato sauce so far, this is not really enough!
Cheers and congratulations on all your losses
-
Well done mumofcrazynamedkids!
I don’t have recommendations for good ready meals unfortunately. I’m of the thinking they’re often loaded with hidden sugar, salt and carb that we don’t need. I’d be interested to hear if anyone has recommendations for ready meals though.
I am taking my inspiration from the BSD recipe book and finding lots of delicious meals and soups in there, many of which can be bulked up and frozen. I made celeriac and apple soup and seedy flapjacks over the weekend, both of which are delicious. The rest are in the freezer.
There was a post from another BSD’er in this thread the other day with ideas for work-based meals, or if you get caught short.
-
Hi everyone! I am a total newbie to the BSD and this is the first forum I have ever posted on!!! I have just finished reading the book and have been making some slight changes already. I aim to start next week and would really love to be part of a support network. I really hope I can do this! I have a lot of weight to lose but am hoping the next 8 weeks will be an awesome kickstart. Good luck to everyone – yes let’s make 2017 our year!!!

I gave up smoking 5 years ago after too many false starts to mention. But, the time I gave up for the good is the time I just knew I would. It was insanely difficult for me but I stuck to it, I didn’t give myself the option to fail. That is the mind-set I am approaching this diet – I will lose 2.5 stone, I will not try to lose it, I will lose it. So far the diet is actually far easier than giving up smoking was, but I am not complacent. My tips (a cheek after one week I know!) – make the effort to make the meals tasty and varied and drink lots of fizzy water to stop dehydration and deceive your body into thinking it is fuller than it is.
-
Sounds like you’ve got the right mindset. I’ve never smoked and I’ve never been on a diet so I’ve nothing to compare BSD with, but if I’d known it would be as easy as this I’d have done it years ago.
One thing I noted is that my tastes changed and I “craved” spicier and more flavoured foods as my interest in bland, white carbs waned. We are lucky to have a really good herbs and spice shop in town and I’m sure that I’m paying his mortgage.
-
Hi Leshaz, welcome! This is a great forum for finding your feet with the BSD and full of encouragement and advice from others on the same path.
I’m 10 days in and had my first wobble today. Managed to pull myself up short and took a moment to think about the longer-term benefits. My mistake was stepping on the scales and seeing I’d only lost 1/4lb since Saturday, which is my weigh day, and feeling discouraged.
I signed up for alerts when people make new posts on this thread. Seeing positive posts really helped handle my wobble this afternoon – thank you all :o)

Just made an interesting observation today. I’ve been a fast eater for a long time, probably since my kids were small. Lol that’s probably no coincidence. Usually I’ve been the first in the family to wolf down my meal.
But today I noticed that everyone was done long before me. And when I think about it, I’ve eaten a lot slower these last few days. It wasn’t something I tried hard to do, it just happened. And it’s a good thing. It gives me time to enjoy the meal and send the proper signals to my brain.
-
Ditto Lindarina, I realised the exact same thing today too.
I’m becoming more conscious about what I eat as much as how I eat it, ie reducing distractions (work, emails etc) and focusing on all that good stuff.
-
H everyonei, yet another newbie here – the remaining chocolates went in the bin today and I went to the gym too. I want to shift one and a half stone, I’ve got so many clothes which don’t fit any more and it’s just silly. I’ve got lots of good habits, I don’t really like cakes, bis cuits or puddings but wine has definitely been my undoing and has to go this time.
-
Lovely to speak to a fellow crocheter Marion53 and Solange – stick with it you will be hooked once you get started and Granny squares are so easy to do! Loads of good tutorials on YouTube. Looked up the Rose of Avalon blanket and it’s gorgeous, love the colours. I’m part of a craft group who meet each week for a couple of hours, we have a good old natter, some people knit/sew/crochet/card making etc and some just come for the company 😊. I’ve got 2 projects on the go at the moment, a crochet baby blanket and a baby Aran jacket……..Hoping to keep my fingers and mind busy to help crush any cravings I might have.
HELP……Today I made paprika chicken kebabs from the BSD recipe book (yummy), it says the calories are 190, and protein is 12g, but logging my meal on the FatSecret app it says 1 chicken breast (no skin) is 37g protein. I’ve googled it and 37g seems about right, is the recipe book wrongn? Can I trust the nutrition info for the other recipes?? Hoping someone can help.
Some fantastic weight losses recorded here, congratulations everyone and good luck everyone on their journey 😊 -
Hello
I’ve found the following grab and go lunches and food handy. And some don’t need the fridge so you can keep them in your bag.
Tinned No drain tuna
Sachet of no drain olives
Miso soup
Bovril
Pack of cherry tomatoes
Pack of sugar snap peas
Red or yellow pepper- eat like an apple
Half cucumber
Pack of quorn ham or sliced meat if not vegetarian
Baby bel or cubes of cheese ( I cut 5-6 blocks of 25g and wrap individually in cling film)
Small tub of Greek yogurt
Bag of salad
Couple slices smoked salmon
Boiled egg ( can get a pack with 2 eggs and Handful of spinach in M&S and Tesco or make own)
2 egg omelette made in microwave takes about 30 seconds. Whisk eggs, knob of butter, 1-2 tsp milk. Eat hot or cold later on
Celery sticks or if real rush grab whole head and chop at work
Quorn sausage or burger cooked night before
Hope it helps – good luck -
Hi mumofcrazynamedkids,
I have banged on about this recipe before but a delicious filling soup is the broccoli and mature cheddar soup on the recipe part of this forum. I didn’t think I’d like it but its really, really good! And so filling. I use regular instead of semi-skimmed milk but it’s do rich a small bowl goes a long way.
Well done Elaine, BuffyLover, Lexy4France and everyone else with your losses and positive thoughts, a great start! Good luck EarlofC on your first few days! You will do great!
Granny, quite a few people have noticed the amounts in the recipes can be quite different to logging them in real life, often the book says they are lower than they actually are, you could probably do a thread search on it. -
Hi all,
Day 2 – So far so good. Yoghurt and almonds for brekkie(ran out of berries but some coming tomorrow), cheese and mushrooms omelette for lunch and 2 Quorn chicken fillets for tea. Now just have to get through to bedtime with a big glass of fizzy water and my crochet.
Granny glad you like the blanket. Started wth the small plain coloured squares and will progress to the others later. I used to go to a craft group but not allowed to drive now so started giving some of my stash away. One can only do so much.
Solange keep trying. As Granny said YouTube really good.Just keep in mind, depending what resource you use, UK and US use different terms for the same stitch. Can be confusing at times.
Back to BSD. Great inspiring posts.
Toby101 agreed. I will lose it this time and won’t find it again.
Have a good evening everyone

Sharron -

sharron -
On day 11 and doing very well
Only one blip but it was a $80 bottle of Penfolds Tawny being wafted under my nose lol
Late morning today i had a major wobble – felt light headed and dizzy whilst at work
I managed to finish the call I was on and grabbed my lunch at 12
Was a close call
800 calories a day is tough but I know it will be worth it and looking forward to weigh in Sunday and the tape measure
Going to try the broccoli and cheddar soup very soon -
Had another wobble at 3.30 today
I haven’t had any salt at all for about 2 days so I reckon my blood pressure dropped or in fact my blood sugars dropped as I am not T2 or Diabetic
I’m dieting because I could easily be Pre T2 if I carried on like my Auntie
Managed to eat some soup and added salt and not too bad now
Soup was Cauliflower and Leek with garlic – beautiful -
Sparkling soda water is my go to drink and contains salt, delicious with ice and fresh lime
-
Marion53 I also had yogurt berries and toasted flaked almonds for breakfast yesterday (and today) also had a tuna salad for lunch, and a ham cheese mushroom and spring onion omelette for dinner with a handful of rocket and parsley. 3 coffees, 2 with milk and one with cream and lots of fizzy water.
I have weighed in again today….. This is only the start if day 3 and I have lost another 2 pounds, so 12.11 now down from 13.2 on Monday!! Whoop whoop the weight loss is so motivating, even if it is just water, way better than thought a vomiting bug for quick results! 😂
-
Hi inka, tumtum, jacks, and thanks for responding. The broccoli and cheese soup looks great, I just need some time this weekend to batch cook!
I know there are lots of individual items, but I like to eat something that feels like a cooked meal at work, soup and stew making I reckon! But in the meantime salads, omlettes, and ham rolls!
Happy bsd’ng everyone, isn’t this fab?

1st Weigh in
I’m on Week 2, day 2 and did my first weigh in today. Was SO nervous.
Results are 12.5lbs lost 😳, 5.5″ off my waist!!!!! I cannot believe it! Totally ecstatic and almost a quarter of weight loss target achieved and over half of inch loss!
The power of the BSD is incredible. I am a very very happy girl. -
Morning all January losers! So pleased to see the successes here..Tumtum and Mum… congratulations!
Getyour carbon…I’m not any kind of scientist or nutritionist but I believe we’re supposed to add salt to replace that which is lost through weight loss and drinking so much more. You might want to check that out…a lack of salt might make you feel shaky.
Well after my fling with the mince pies I’m back to 98kg after seeing a gain of 300g over 2 days. Were the mince pies worth it? Probably not..the jury’s still out on that one. Mince pies are my favourite Christmas food and these were the only ones I ate so on balance I enjoyed them but am glad I binned what was left.
-
Fantastic result TumtumP, well done!! 👏
-
Amazing tumtum!!!!! Congratulations and a great inspiration for us all👍
-
Hi all.
I thought I would ass some more positivity to this thread – as if we can get anymore!!!
Week 2, day 2, 6lbs down (2.7kg) and the first 2 NSV’s!!!!
My top that I haven’t worn for a while feel a lot looser on me this morning and the waistband of my tights feels a lot looser also…. it’s the little things that keep us going…
5 more weeks until my holidays and I will be in that next stone bracket (7lbs to go) and a dress size smaller if its the last thing I do!!!!
:o)
Happy hump day everyone!!!
Much love,
Rebecca. xxx -
Getyourcarbon,
I think that I would have risked half a glass of the Tawny – it’s not too bad. I have a case of Grange 2004 in the cellar that is just coming to its best and will feature during the maintenance phase – but in moderation of course.
-
Tumtum…..just *wow* amazing result, you have me optimistic for my first full week weigh in next Monday!
Buffs. Great loss too, and the NSV’s are always welcome. I always plateau at some point. But luckily those are usually the weeks when people comment that I look good.
Just feeling very inspired by everyone on here, great Woe!
-
Thank you everyone for your really kind words and encouragement- it’s really helped .
Tonight I’m trying Protein bread- made at home using Pea protein and Whey protein, eggs, egg white and broccoli. It’s not bread- no replica sliced white here! BUT I’m using it to sandwich my burger together and it’s ok. It tastes NICE even. And although the slices are very small, 2 are very filling-in fact 1 and half or one sliced thinly would be ample. A quorn peppered steak, 30g cheddar, 25g lettuce and 3 cherry tomatoes, 2 bits of the bread all for 392 calories and I am stuffed!
