Hi guys…..was diagnosed with prediabetes about 4 years ago and doctor suggested metformin which I reluctantly agreed to. I take 2x500g slow release tablets a day. Been doing the BSD for 6 weeks and lost 8 pounds. I was a porky 15ish stone when I started. I’m 47 years old , 6 foot 1 and now 14 stone 5. I train regularly and have a waist of 34 inches. Been testing my blood sugar in the mornings when waking up and it’s regularly 7.2…..I was hoping (realistically or not!) to see a reduction in this. Not following the 800 calories religiously but haven’t eaten bread, pasta, potatoes, cakes, biscuits high GI or GL etc since I started the diet.
Any ideas or people experiencing the same….any advice would be welcomed and appreciated..

I would say follow the diet more religiously. Are you still taking the metformin as well?

I don’t think you are going to reverse diabetes without following the book. I would read the book again and follow Mosley’s reasoning.

    I agree with Shalimar
I didn’t eat any of the bad stuff when I started the diet. But it wasn’t until I followed it religiously and the weight started shifting dramatically that I was able to ditch the insulin (7 weeks ago) .

Ditching the bad carbs is a really good start and will mean that you wont get the horrible ‘carb flu’ when you follow the way of eating more strictly.

    Hi stevengoddard
Don’t forget to try and eat no more that 50g of carbs per day. Michael doesn’t mention that in the book, but those of us on the forum have generally found that to be critical.
If that’s not working, cut it down to 40g then 30g until your blood sugar levels start coming down. Also keep up the water intake to at least 2-3 litres per day.
Let us know how you go.
    Cheers
    Linda

Steven, a few of us have tried 2 weeks with differing carbs, 50 grams came out manageable and worked whereas 30 grams was a nightmare to keep to without getting enough to eat and really complicated (for me) to work out. If I got my carbs so low I was then not getting enough calories so was filling up on protien so not such a balanced diet as how it appears in the book. The first 8 weeks I stuck to the menu plans in the book and reduced my HBA1c from 8.2 to 6.7. I didn’t lose tonnes of weight but I do inject insulin every night, which is known as the fat magnet, so did really well to lose around 10 lbs in 8 weeks. You are already about to overtake that. It can take some adjustments to get to what is right for you.

    Thank you miss sunshine.

You have described the challenge I face exactly. I can do the low carbs but find myself having a snack of nuts which load up the calories. I can do low carb and I can do low calories its the low carb and low calories thats the prob ……and Im not Jamie in the kitchen either so meals aren’t as they look in the book…..but hey …no pain no gain so Im just gonna hang on in there…..thanks sunshine girl…..
