I’ve just watched this week’s HORIZON documentary on BBC Two – “Why Are We Getting So Fat?”
A really interesting programme that covered many areas of research into obesity.
Towards the end of the show they talked about the part different types of gut bacteria play in how fat or thin we are. The upshot was that a Mediterranean style diet, but without the high carbs, can help promote the growth of a wider range of good types of bacteria in the gut, and that these can help you to loose weight.
Full programme is here http://bbc.in/1UnX9di the bit about gut bacteria is around 50 minutes in.
