Hi! I’m training for a half marathon- it’s in 3 weeks on 2/04/17. I’ve been trying to fast on my non- training days & sticking to the Mediterranean diet on training days.
My question is: am I being silly trying to lose weight while training hard? And if not, please help- because I’m not losing at all. My weight is static @ 69kg. BMI = 24, so room for improvement, I’m my opinion.
I’ve considered cutting calories down on training days, but find if affects my performance quite dramatically- I get real sugar lows and feel lousy and end up eating stuff I should be avoiding!
Anyone got any wise words of wisdom?

Might I suggest that this might not be the best time to start a really strict calorie reduced diet plan. Your half M is only 3 weeks ago, concentrate on that and doing whatever you have to do. This diet can drain you in the first few weeks until you get used to it so you would be at your lowest when you need to be at your peak. Good luck with the race and look forward to seeing you back here in 3 weeks.

It did a half M on this diet. As the training miles went up so did the calories. I used a Fitbit to keep track and rather than thinking of total calories I tried to keep 1000 a day less than I was burning. Also any runs over an hour I ate a jelly baby every mile. Not BSD friendly maybe but it kept me going and I did it in 2hr 17min which was my best time for 2 decades.

    Hi DebC1
Google Professor Tim Noakes and the information he provides on running whilst being fat adapted.

Here are some links to podcasts that talk about low carb diets and running:

Thank you for your feedback & experiences Linda & Deb. Both really useful & encouragig.
Very interesting Tim Noakes information on carb intake for a half marathon.
My gels are packed & the nerves are very much awake! Race Day tomorrow.
I’ve lost 600g since my first post- not much, but I haven’t been counting calories. Just sticking to low carb, Mediterranean diet and having carbs when needed pre- hard run.
I’ll be back after race day & hopefully on track to lose some more towards that goal!
