I allowed myself some respite leading up to and over Christmas. The rate at which I can feel my clothes have tightened is alarmingly!
Hey ho. Back on it from tomorrow and hope to reverse any weight gain and go on the lose a second stone having already lost and maintained (until the Christmas food and alcohol over indulgence) a 19 Ilb weight loss.
I think my body will be in shock, I expect to feel some of the starchy carb and sugar withdrawal that I felt when I first started it. It’s made me think that I don’t have a good relationship with either of these food groups. I’ve easily slipped right back in to consuming too much of both.
I wonder what is the secret to successful long term control (I was never looking for complete abstentions into the future as I am not diabetic) when eating these foods? I’ve long thought that for me, they are addictive. The more I have, the more I want.
I’m hoping to find the resolve that I started with so that getting back to it isn’t too painful 😕

Good Luck Timetochange – you know you can do this, as you have had great results before. Time to refocus and get back on track. I too will be back on the Fast 800 from tomorrow.
If you are unable to control the amount of carbs you consume, perhaps you need to think in terms of complete banishment long term. Carbs by their very nature, as addictive as they spike your blood sugar and when that dips, you crave more. I never thought of myself as addicted to carbs, but found cutting them out harder than expected. Having achieved that, I am reluctant to allow myself to go back to my old way of eating.
So, now f I allow myself a little chocolate or a small roast potato and am tempted to go for more, I force myself to think about if I really need or want it and what the potential consequence may be. And actually, over time my pallet has changed so much now, that actually I very rarely want (or if I give in – enjoy) high carb foods. Stick with it long enough and this might well happen for you too.
Hope your new venture into the BSD is successful and look forward to reading your positive results soon.

Hello Time to change. I’m in a similar position – back on the 800 from today. I have gained over Xmas but I knew that I would – I did not restrict what I ate or drank in any way. I am learning how food affects me so that I can eat as I choose at times like Xmas…Good luck!

    Hello Timetochange,

I can identify with all you say about the addictive nature of carbs, particularly sugar. I’m a bit all or nothing with sugar but it definitely is my enemy so I’m back on the BSD from Wednesday! When I get my head around not eating any sugar it becomes easier as I go along so that’s what I am hoping for in the next few weeks. I think I may find it hard starting again so will keep reading these forums for inspiration. Good luck everyone!

Thanks everyone. I have completed the first day back on. It was okay and not as hard as I thought (possibly because my body is still living off all I have consumed!). I’m back to work tomorrow so it will be easier to be away from the house and the leftover food! I have teenagers at home so I can’t get rid of the food that I’m trying to avoid as they consume carbs in vast amounts but of course they all burn it off equally as fast! I remember that metabolism! I no longer have it.
Building my resolve and looking forward to the clothes loosening again.
See you on the forums (I find them really helpful).

I can sympathise with your plight Timetochange. I gained almost a pound a day over the festive period and that was without alcohol.

I also completed my first day back on the fast 800 today and it felt like putting a comfy old shoe on (I’ve only been off plan for 10 days total).

I did want to enjoy everything I ate over Christmas and didn’t restrict calorie intake. It was a useful exercise because I felt the frenzied carb monster having their fill when the opportunity arose and it happened solely on sugary carbs. All starchy or savoury refined carbs were easily withheld from or restricted in their volume.

I’m still trying to figure out what maintenance might look like. The past few days has valuably taught me that I probably can’t re-introduce sugar safely in any quantity.

Well day two done. I’m not yet back to a strict 800 calories but close enough to it and most importantly no startchy carb and sugars. Slightly headachy today and probably a few too many cups of tea, but just trying to steer myself in the right direction in general. Made the skinny aubergine lasagne from the cooking book and it was lovely, very filling and satisfying. Feeling positive and ready for tomorrow!

I think many of us slipped during the holidays. Isn’t is amazing how quickly you can gain weight! I have put on 10 lbs and ready to start again. I miss that feeling of being in control and feeling good about myself.
