Well done all of you….it’s great isn’t it.:) I put on a blouse today that actually looked good on me. It never really looked right as it used cling to all the wrong places but it looked lovely today…and my watch kept sliding down from my wrist! I’ve had a lovely birthday weekend so far. my husband made me a beef curry last night which I ate with salad. We went out for lunch as my birthday treat to Rick Steins seafood restaurant. I did have a glass of prosecco and a panacotta for dessert….but it’s MY BIRTHDAY!!!! 🎂🎂🎂🎂tomorrow we are going shopping and my husband is buying me a new handbag.
We are all doing so well we deserve some⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Happy birthday Ziggy! Congratulations on your weight loss & glad you enjoyed your meal at Risk Steins.
I made the paleo scotch eggs & they did taste nice however I followed the suggestion in the recipe of only cooking the eggs for four minutes & found it very difficult to get the shell off & the eggs cracked. I then found that one pound of sausage meat didn’t completely cover six eggs so a bit of a disaster. Next time I will hard boil the eggs to make them firmer to get the shell off! I added herbs, cumin & ground coriander that added a slightly spicy flavour. My husband loved them so wants some more if I can again be persuaded to battle with egg shells!

    To Wendy…
I did want to do the “chefy” thing and have runny scotch eggs but decided to boil mine hard. I don’t think I would have achieved it after being cooked in the oven. Also rolling the sausage meat between cling film helps too. My husband loved them too. I will be making them next week using wheat free gluten free sausages my favourite are Black Farmer Sausages containing 1g of carbs.
    PREMIUM PORK SAUSAGES

With 90% meat from British pork, my gluten free sausages are full flavoured and meaty. They are made using British RSPCA Assured outdoor bred pork.

My special recipe seasoning brings out the flavour of the meat. A perfect all rounder for all the family and for any occasion. Fry, grill or oven bake for everyday, or perfect at the heart of a comforting casserole, Toad in the Hole or other recipe dish.

    Hello everyone – I’m back.

So last week’s attempts to get back on the Fast800 did not go so well post the parental state visit, as I was hindered by 18-24 hour (eek) working days, stress, planes and consequential tiredness. I have been functioning like a zombie. I also had a bout of apparently self-inflicted food poisoning (from a BSD-friendly meal, ironically) which saw (non BSD) dry toast coming to the rescue. Hence my quietness in this forum. But I have cleared the work backlog and, although still shattered, have re-started.

I’m not weighing myself today as I said I would as I’m in no doubt that I have regained all the weight I lost, despite not having massively pigged out. No point demotivating myself. The plan is to put one foot in front of each other again like before, and watch the scales come down again in due course. It will happen.

I’m re-starting at a challenging time: my best friend is over from Australia this week and we will be eating out a LOT. Traditionally we indulge in a dim sum blow-out during our reunions: I have told her that I won’t be able to do this on this trip. But is there ever a good time to (re)start?! 6.5 weeks until I head home for Christmas; I’d like to make a serious dent in my waistline by then. And I will.

I’m reminded of a concept we studied at uni: the concept of failure. “You’re at point A and you want to get to Point B. You have to accept that you won’t get there in a straight line. The line will be squiggly. It will take you forwards, take you backwards, and take you around the houses in circles at times. But that’s okay. The key thing is that you don’t lose sight of Point B along the way, and that you don’t expect a straight line. Because life doesn’t come with many straight lines.”

Have a good day all. Nice to be back.

Hi all. I had a bad week last week, so I’m restarting today. Clean slate. Going to weigh later in the week to give my carb tummy a chance to reduce! Just had a cheese and mushroom omelette for breakfast, I’m now planning out my food for the week – I didn’t manage this last week and do feel this was a major factor in falling off the wagon. I like the concept carb_addict posted, thanks for that 😊

    Happy birthday 🎉 Ziggy!

CarbAddict – love the quote, just what I was trying to say, but much clearer😄

Had Board meetings at work this week, and that means a lot of food. I did go considerably over calorie wise, but stayed low carb as our Board members like to eat low carb, a bit of a miracle there, lol 😂

I lost this week! 1.2 lbs! So I am now below where I was after my gain, go me. It’s a slow process this time around for me, but downwards! I am also motivated by sticking it to the dietitian 😝

    Have a great week!

Hi everyone and Happy belated birthday Miss Ziggy! Welcome back Carbaddict, hope everyone is starting the week well!
Have had a slow couple of weeks with small additions registering large on the scales! But we took our daughters to the city for the weekend and the OH and I decided to relax the rules so carbs, ice cream, wine, all found their way into my belly!
But guess what, I really didn’t enjoy them that much, felt gross and couldn’t wait to restart the diet today!! So a sideways win!
Have a hood week everyone and may the scales smile upon you!

I have lost 2lbs this week with a total loss of 11lbs! I’m so pleased I have finally lost some recordable weight instead of just ounces😀
Don’t give up & get disheartened those of you slowing up & not losing weight because that is what happened to me! I was losing inches but nothing much showing on my scales. It was as though my body was re-organising itself so very weird.
Best feet forward for the last three weeks everyone 👍👍🍀🍀

As a re-starter, it’s so motivating to hear about the successes of everyone who I started with who has managed to stick to it. I hope to be back joining you in the ‘losing’ stakes very soon!

I bought some tinned (canned) soup to help me back on my way this week, meaning I had access to quick, easy meals and therefore no excuses. I don’t usually buy things like this, I like to make from scratch, but I figured I needed some coping strategies in case work got massively busy again. Having just logged the one I had for lunch today on MFP I am blown away by how high in sodium it was. Literally, I exceeded my recommended sodium allowance with just the one bowl of so-called healthy/ low-carb/ BSD-compliant/ vegan vegetable soup!! So I’ll be back to making my own by the looks of it… A real eye-opener that I would not have realised had I not been logging my food on an online tracker. Lots of learnings as I venture forwards…

Anyone doing any exercises? Any toning ones? I want to strengthen my core and hold my stomach in but pushed it out so long cause of back problems not sure how to.
I am going to have to stop starving myself all day then over eating at night to.

    Have you tried Alexander technique?
I did a concentrated burst (two week in Greece) about ten-twelve years ago, plus a few follow up sessions, but it has stayed with me.
It’s not great as an exercise per se, but it is brilliant for sorting out your posture – it’s based on the correct alignment of the spine
I used to get frequent back pain, but none at all really since I did the AT training.

Hi everyone, usually post on a Saturday to update on weight and inches and how I am but been staying at my daughters looking after my grandson, -‘wonderful and tiring and have just got back, I weighed myself on their scales – on Saturday – fantastic I had lost loads of weight, but their scales weigh low, so walked home and weighed myself here – I was at my lowest weight ( don’t start putting flags out, it was the same weight as I had been at the end of week two, before the seesaw that is my dieting life began! BUt still my lowest weight for many years, then it went up then it went down, but inches are still going, slowly it’s true, but now 2 in off waist, the rest is the same, but I look thinner, even though this is only 7 lbs, less plus one pound!!!! I had to take the swimsuit back I bought last week, too big and got into the smaller size, this is all positive, but the see saw is driving me mad, and I have been hungry ALL week, we go on holiday for a week on Saturday, (now that’s not going to be easy I do love a glass of – well anything really!)

Enough of me, happy birthday Ziggy, Sarah I thought we had lost you, you aren’t a restarter you are one of us 1 October starters and won’t ever be anything else, blow the eight weeks I am going on to Christmas, my next goal, just let me be under that two week weight or we will have to call it the twenty week plus diet (so what we’ll still stick together) canidoit you are a legend well done on the weight loss, love to all

Well done PatC getting into a smaller swimming-suit⭐️I have also gone through the losing inches weeks but the scales not moving much & it is so frustrating! I will be joining you carrying on as best I can after eight weeks until I get to my goal weight. I will have birthday celebrations to cope with & two Christmas “days” as well with my family & two grandchildren coming for an early Christmas meal before the real Christmas & plan to have a glass or three as well🍷🍷🍷.
I will otherwise try to stay low carb avoiding the usual bread, pasta & potatoes as much as possible but yesterday couldn’t resist a slice of cream filled Victoria sponge placed in front of me🙀although it honestly was my first high carb food since starting five weeks ago. Enjoy your holiday & don’t feel guilty about your glass of something but try to continue to eat as low carb if you can👍😎😎
Nickix very well done on your marvellous weight loss💐💐

So my poor old body doesn’t know what’s been going on all of these years – But – I feel so positive about this one and ready to go on for as long as it takes, 8,20,40 or 52 weeks, we 1 October starters are in this together for however long it takes – i’ll drink to that! Hello everyone,

I haven’t been able to post anything for ages as I had trouble remembering my password and such – it went on for ages – why is life so complicated – or why do I complicate my life so much!!!!!
Anyway – here we are again

To date – the weight has been falling off me – thank heavens.
I have had 5 days holiday from this diet – HALLOWEEN and witches. I am Irish so we know how to celebrate!!! But the age old tale of eating properly and combining it with doing exercise seems to work, but why is it so difficult to see it through to the end.
I have been eating toast in the morning because if I didn’t – I would fail – simple as, so I am delighted as I write with my weight loss.
That being said – there are times when I could kill for a beer or a glass of wine
At this point in time, it is a good day, but I have struggled, desperately, like everyone else here, but reading your stories have inspired me – thank you. There were times when I couldn’t log on – but I was able to read what was happening to you all and it helped, enormously.

Good luck to all of our American voters today – your vote counts – big time
Cheers to everyone and good luck with your “lifestyle choices”. We will get there – all of us. I hope I can log on again at some time – who knows!!

Hi Fairyface – endless discussions about oats and porridge over the last few months if you use the search box! – But if you’re soaking them overnight (and I presume that’s rolled or steel cut oats, not the finely milled stuff), they are far less likely to cause any blood sugar spikes. Also, I find when I soak overnight, no need to add much milk, and no sugar or sweetener, because they develop their own sweetness.

They are quite carby, so not something I’d have every day.
When I first started BSD, I was surprised at the quantity that was deemed a portion – from memory, it’s 30 g, and when I have them now, it’s generally 20-25g – but as long as you build it in to your daily carb and calorie count, not a problem.

Thank you Frog. I will search for the discussion on oats. I am trying to vary what I eat most days but would like to factor this into the menu. I measured out 20g as not sure if I would like it. Quite surprised myself that I liked the texture mixed with yoghurt and fruit.

I love overnight oats and used to eat them before BSD but as I wake up at 6:00 I find them too chilled to eat straight from the fridge in October.❄️❄️❄️I always keep frozen berries and would put them in along with a few nuts. I use 20 grams as I find 30 far too much.
I would love to have something warm for breakfast other than porridge but I really don’t have time to cook in the morning ……any suggestions for a hot fast breakfast?

Well done PatC!! Thrilled to see the results are finally kicking in. You deserve this so much. Yay!!!!!

I went and bought the BSD book today: am in dire need of recipe inspiration. Being a non meat/ non dairy eater it doesn’t (naturally) have an amazing amount of recipes I can eat straight off the bat but I am going to experiment, substitute some things and see how I go. I was surprised that the calorie count was listed against each recipe but not the carb one though?

I gather from this forum that there may be a dedicated BSD recipe book? I went to one of the biggest bookshops in the world (everything is ‘biggest in the world in Dubai’, lol) and they didn’t have it so looks like I need to hit Amazon. I bought another one instead which looked good however.

Oh, and I also went and had my long-awaited hair make-over. I thought ‘screw it: life’s too short’. That plus having a manicure this week (since I gave up biting my nails on 01 October) too has buoyed me up no end. I’m throwing some cash at my low self-esteem and I feel better for it 🙂 Morale of the story is: don’t wait until you hit a weight-loss goal to invest in feeling better about yourself. Do it now and it will keep you keep you motivated to keep on improving yourself. So all is good here at my end: hope the same with you all. x

I tend to eat poached egg a lot more now, which does take about 5

Didn’t realise that you weren’t cooking the oats FairyFace, I definitely wouldn’t fancy that.
I am currently toying with the idea of adding cocoa to oats – chocolate porridge as pudding!
will let you know how successful if I give it a try.

We often eat porridge for breakfast & like the cinnamon & apple recipe. Unfortunately 200 plus calories eat very much into what can be eaten for the rest of the day & rather sabotages choices for lunch & supper trying to keep within 800 calories. We therefore often go without breakfast, we were used to doing this when we did 5:2, to give us more recipe choices for our other two meals!
I made the delicious chicken lime Laksa soup that includes coconut milk making it 330 calories if divided into four portions that is very moreish, & we find has to be very carefully included into 800 daily calories but it has become a favourite soup & my husband loves it. We find it is a constant juggling operation to also include a breakfast so mostly leave it until the weekend & have one of the brunch recipes or a mushroom omelette which is lovely. Oh well on the whole we have adapted well to this way of eating & mostly don’t miss bread or pasta! I do miss the occasional glass of wine particularly today when we have got some Bucks Fizz & similar things from M & S with their special offer for Christmas & ordered wine from Waitrose with their 25% off! I will just have to be patient for another couple of weeks until my husbands & my birthday to have a glass of something😀

    Hi Carb-addict

there is a Vegetarian Low-carb cookery book by Celia Brooks
I haven’t tried it, but Celia occasionally teaches at the cookery school that I go to, and did some really nice recipes when I cooked with her there. When I mentioned the book to Orchid, who posts occasionally on this site, she had an old copy and recollected using it – I think the old version that had become a bit of a classic, but rebranded and reissued to fit in with current diet trends.
There is a thread specifically about the new recipe book – it only came out two or three weeks ago – you could ask on that thread about the vegan content.

Sounds like your not an amazon fan, but they do seem to have several low carb vegan recipe books there (on the UK site at least)

Miss Ziggy. I am also finding the overnight oats so cold. I just leave it on the side whilst I make a cuppa and empty the dishwasher!
Makes my teeth rattle if I eat them straight away:-)
Frog. I don’t like oats cooked. Overnight oats is a a bit like eating clotted cream with fruit. If my husband is cooking eggs for breakfast he scrambles them in a very small frying pan. I don’t mind my eggs cooked in the microwave but if he is volunteering to cook breakfast, who am I to argue:-)
Wendy1947 I have looked at the recipe for chicken lime Laksa soup but have not cooked it because I think 330 calories for lunch is a bit much. Is it a thick soup?
We try to have 200 calories for breakfast and lunch and then 400 for dinner. Sometimes we are well under and other times over but have decided it all balances out over the week.

OMG I went down again this morning, OMG obviously it will go up again next week when I am imbibing alcohol on hols, but I will watch the carbs and try to stick to it, I went under 153 I haven’t been there for a long long time – it was at the end of belonging to weight watchers for months and months and low,fat this low fat that, but this was 33 years ago, OMG – sorry bit excited!

MIss Ziggy I mentioned many posts ago that my engagement ring kept sliding down my finger and I had had to put my mum’s wedding ring the other side to hold it on (obviously a bit smaller than the engage, ent ring) I remember commenting oh joy I am losing weight on my fingers!

    Lozzer57 welcome!
