So I’m doing the 8 week challenge and am at week 5. I’ve lost 6kgs so far but have hit a bit of a wall . lost a bit of my enthusiasm and finding especially this week that I’m actually more hungry than normal. Water is looking a bit bla too, wishing for something a bit fizzy and cold, especially in our extreme heat.
Also the kids are all back at school now and finding that it is tricky to have lunches which i have to cook at the time.
I don’t want to give up so close to the finish (in my mind anyway) but it’s getting a tad depressing .
Is it normal to hit a flat spot within that first 8 weeks? I know it will be a long process for me to get to where I’m happy and healthy but boy is it hard at the moment?
People who’ve been on this before HELP!!!

    Hi ElizzyB,

I don’t really like the taste of water out of the tap either, I have found soda water to be a revelation. It provides the fizz to make a drink refreshing. It does have a slight aftertaste, but adding just a drop of squash covers that and it takes a lot less squash to turn it into a flavoursome drink than is needed for tap water. – ( I know, there is some carbs in the squash, but its only a splash needed. ) I buy it in 1 litre bottles and just open the bottle, add a very small quantity of squash and if you keep the top closed you can have a few small glasses throughout the day and it still has a slight fizz at the end of the day.

ElizzyB, seems to me that mind set is perhaps part of the problem here, so you need to look at the positives you have achieved to date, to help carry you through this flat spot. You are over half way through the eight weeks; you’ve achieved a good loss to date; what were your measurements at the start and what are they now. What are your non-scales victories – sleeping better, more energy, clothing loser, etc. I recommend joining the Positive Thoughts thread, as this makes one look at the pluses in our lives and even reading those of others can be very uplifting.

Drink wise, have you tried steeping cucumber and fresh mint in a jug of water (tap or soda) for a while, then add some ice and enjoy. Or cold fruit teas could be an option as well.

Final thought from one of my little wisdom books: ‘Our lives are like the course of the sun. At the darkest moment there is the promise of daylight.’ attributed to The Times, London, 24 Dec 1984
