Here we are in May ! Love this month .It (usually) means long , warm and sunny days, flowers blooming, birds singing their little hearts out . There are a few celebrations coming up later this month and it would be nice to be able to enjoy a little treat as nothing else is happening before our trip to the UK in July

So let’s get our act together folks and Master May ( thanks Julia/ California Girl) .
Make the changes you can manage and sustain .Nobody gets it right all the time but small changes will make a difference and give you the boost you need.

Talking of which I feel very fortunate that my covid episode was mild and short lived .I really feel for Lauren and Clare who are still battling the effects . For anyone else also struggling, hang on in there .Do your best to nourish your bodies with decent stuff and avoid the carbage where you can.

The start of a new month is always a good time to kick start the motivation and we look forward to seeing you checking in .

Wendy and sunshine -girl ( and SunnyB is who still enjoying Turkey !) xxx

Thank you Wendy for starting off our new month and hello everyone. May is my Mindful month ( and hopefully motivational). Mindful as in 🚫no alcohol🚫 for 4 weeks. I’m sending you positive vibes on that to you TULIP. 🌷 Hopefully that will keep me away from too many snaxidents! And perhaps show a bit less on my tum.
And motivational – I restarted a bit of swimming and water exercise 15 days ago and I am really enjoying it after avoiding it/procrastinating about it for the last couple of years. So I need to stay motivated as we roll into Winter and colder mornings and days. April has been beautifully mild, but tomorrow we start cold weather and showers (cold is around 14c) . So talking myself into getting in the water is a little harder. That being said – it is warmer in the water than out 😀 so it is all psychological! I need to Master my thinking on that!
I have been a bit off plan in places but staying on track weight wise. Scrambled eggs for lunch (on Dietdoctor’s Sesame bread) and some lamb & veg for dinner.
I was really sorry to read about the loss of your cat Wendy. My condolences. Our pets have been a great source of comfort during stay-at-home times, just quietly sitting with us – with the occasional demands for food ♥❤. Pleased to hear you are recovering from your bout of covid, and you can now get about planning that long awaited family reunion in the UK.
Apologies for not having posted in a while – as someone else recently wrote – I read all the posts and compose replies in my head – but don’t get around to posting them! 🤣🤣

    Hello.
Oh yes let’s try and Master May. Hopefully it will also be a mindful and motivational month and I’d like to add that I hope it will be also meaningful and even magical!
I managed to lose my 1.6lb gain last week from my few days away plus an extra pound so not unhappy. I keep a record of my weight each Tuesday and took a proper look at the year so far. Well!!! I have a total loss so far this year but what was really startling was that in the weeks that I did record a gain the total is just over 11lbs. That means I’ve lost that 11lbs more than once….. if that makes sense! Just think if I’d not had any gains this year I’d weigh at least 11lb less now. So certainly food for thought. I’m making life very difficult for myself and working far too hard losing my gains over and over again!
I will definitely make May more meaningful!
    Have a good week

Hi everyone, back for another week. Managed a 2lb loss last week but could have been more if I hadnt given in to a drink on Sunday, gained half a pound and then lost it again. Like V, I could have been even lighter if I hadnt gained. One of the downfalls of weigjhing daily. If I got on the scales just once a week I would be happy with 2lbs but having already seen nearly 3, I feel robbed. I choose to weigh daily as it helps with my motivation. I get more determined no matter which way the scales go but keeps me engaged in the process.

Just got a new computer (processor and keyboard) which hubby has set up for me. Of course, I have lost a lot of stuff that was out of date but I was still happily using (XL charts and Windows) and have to type in each site as if I have never used it and put it in favourites. The keyboard is tiny and I keep missing the keys but I will get used to it. At least it doesnt take 20 mins to load something. Hence the glass of vodka and tonic, I get really frustrated with technology.

So, weight going in right direction, BG back to normal levels after holiday although they only went up a bit as I increased insulin from 11 units to 14, now back down to 12 so still in sight of getting rid of insulin. I think I said before, I might wait until after daughters wedding in August as when we get back I will have a clear 5 month run before any more holidays planned. We will see or in French on verra.

    Have a good week.

Hi all….Wendy, so glad that you are well in such a short time 😊😊, and thank you for the well-wishes 😚
Merry, fabulous…I haven’t touched a drop….hubby is so random tho, ‘do you want to try some of this beer, it’s really nice?’….err, if I am giving up wine (as suggested by you!!!), which I love, and is a beverage that actually has some health benefits and can be had in moderation on this WOE, I’m hardly going to wreck it by drinking beer- which I really dislike, and isn’t a good option on this WOE either…..but thank you for offering 🙄🙄😂…
    Love to all xxx

Snaxidents! Merry, I have far too many of those. Love the word tho. Like carbage. And frankenfoods.
My new workplace has a chip and chocolate vending machine right outside the doors where I see it as I leave for the day, tired and hungry…. Just another thing to resist. I’ve been successful so far – two whole days!

Oh Natalie – that is so unfair that workplaces allow junk food to be put where they tempt people.
Just imagine it is full of choc covered creepy crawlies (ewww!) and wood chips. Screw up your nose and walk right by and go home to your planned meal 😁😁
I saw the snaxidents word posted here – and thought that it sums things up nicely!
TULIP – we will be strong together on this no wine caper! Don’t be swayed by hubby 🙂 I plan to make this last 30 days – I’m half way through now. Sleeping really well too. On May 21st we are having our federal elections and I am going to a election gathering – so that will be the end of my 30 days. But the no alcohol and exercise must be doing good things. I went to my Shiatsu massage therapist this week and she said I was glowing and my chi was strong 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♂️🏃‍♂️

Hi everyone, glad you are better Wendy. On the subject of covid, we had our 2nd booster yesterday, pharmacy, no appointment necessary, just walked in.

Tulip I think we have twin husbands. I will say I dont mind if he wants a drink. Then he pours a glass of red and does all the swirling business, sniffing and tasting – this is delicious he says. I dont even drink red wine but it makes me so mad. He used to do the same with his once a week cakes. No I dont have a sweet tooth but who wouldnt like a lovely chocolate eclair, especially when you know it forbidden.

Nothing much to report, weight fluctuating and making me a bit annoyed. BG going in right direction and insulin reduced again. Now want to get through the weekend unscathed and get that 1lb off for Tuesdays weigh in.

Why would companies put vending machines of carbage where we work? So sorry about that Natalie!
Just draw a veil over it and avert your eyes when you walk past, that has worked for me for years in the grocery store — after awhile you won’t even notice the stupid thing.
We’ve been sharing Covid all around the family, although one group caught it in Scotland, one group caught it in North Carolina and the rest caught it in California. Didn’t seem to matter who was vaccinated(some are/aren’t) but everyone is recovering fine.
I saw an article in the AARP bulletin yesterday (it’s a magazine for retired persons — pretty mundane and dumb articles but this one was interesting) —
I’m always going on about protein and probably sound like a broken record, but eating protein in the correct amounts PLUS some weight training (that includes body weight too like yoga and Pilates and calisthenics) builds muscle. And here is the new list of benefits:
People with more muscle had a 43% lower incidence of Alzheimer’s for every one point on the strength scale!
High levels of muscular strength are associated with reduced risk of high blood pressure
High muscle mass is associated with better insulin control and lower risk of dementia
Breast cancer and prostate patients with high muscle mass are less likely to die of it
High muscle mass is associated with lower incidence of depression
Greater muscle strength people have lower levels of inflammatory compounds, less heart disease, and less metabolic syndrome
Now if that list isn’t enough to get you to build muscle (one hour a week will do it although two would be much better) I don’t know what would!
And going back to my favorite subject, it is crucial to eat enough protein to build muscle. The recommendation is 25 grams at EACH meal for women, 30 grams for men (that’s in this article)
Dr. Bikman recommends 1-1.5 grams per kilogram ideal body weight — and for anyone new, check out Dr Bikman’s podcasts, they are very informative and motivational. His focus is insulin control and the health benefits from same. He is also entertaining!
So don’t forget some weight training!! 😃

Happy weekend everyone. The sun is shining and all the plants are in their pots, just one more set of tomatoes to put out. Friends coming round on Monday to help with taking off the pool cover. Just in time for our heatwave with 28 degrees Monday and then 30 for the rest of the week.

Glad I stuck with the plan as my weight is now back down and heading to the 1lb weight loss for Tuesday. Have a lovely relaxing weekend.

Merry- thank you- strong chi, excellent, keep it up 😁
SG- no one in my house is allowed wine till I am 😂….hubby only drinks it when I do any way and the rest are under 18…..I’d really struggle with someone enjoying it so much in front of me!! But- this complete abstinence is only short term for me….half a stone to lose now!! And I’d like to get it off before our May-June holiday (28th May!)- so quite a challenge!
I’m about halfway thru getting my veg plants in the bed and bigger pots in the greenhouse….it always takes far more time than I remember from the previous year!!
    Love to all,
    Tulip xxxxx

Hello everyone ! I’m still here ! Last week got taken up with ‘stuff’, mostly pleasant !

I’ve been doing a bit of French teaching … to Ukrainian families who have arrived in a village close by and some English classes for teenagers during the school holidays. Do I miss teaching ? I realised I do a bit but I do appreciate my freedom too !

Plans for our UK trip have been finalised and I will have both my sons at a family wedding in July . 🙂 The wedding was postponed because of the dreaded Covid and the happy couple are going ahead this year with their baby born just a few weeks ago . Hubby will also get to see his daughter and his grandchildren , one of whom we have never met . It’s shocking to think how long it has been since we could travel safely and meet up with loved ones.
It’s going to be fab !!! So a family catch up in the UK and more time with my boys when we get back to France . It’s all good !

I have found a dress ( new on Vinted !!) for the occasion and it looks fine but if I can lose a bit of belly it would be no bad thing.
Talking of Vinted I have been selling a few items to free up space and also to ease my guilt about buying too much !!

We have also booked 4 nights away this month on the Ile d’Oleron further up the west coast from us . Lots of pine forests, sandy dunes and beaches and an extensive network of biking paths .I quite fancy that but as you know Hubby has dodgy knees . As suspected he needs 2 replacement ops which are scheduled for September and January .

So I am focusing on July and it’s still time to make a difference . So we will keep going in May and I’m off to set up the new thread !

Hi Wendy and others. Hope you had a good weekend. I managed to get through it with no sllp ups but not happy with my weight. Unless I drop some by tomorrow I will only be about quarter of a pound down. Anyway, we opened the pool this morning with the help of a neighbour, so it saved my back. Although I have been cleaning garden loungers that I thought would have to be thrown out and they were all mildewy and dirty. Surprising what white vinegars and washing up liquid can do. However, it is so hot I had to do one chair in stages and the other will get done tomorrow. Feeling good and hoping to be swimming in the next week.

Tulip, right now I am fortunate that my husband has a heart condition – not happy about it but….. he cant drink any more, it gives him heart flutters so it is now just the very rare red wine when I am having something as well.

Going to continue to be busy for the next few days but the hard work is done. We are looking for a new alarm for the pool so more expense after the radiator and getting the plumber out. Hey ho, we said this would happen if we stayed in France. Lots of things in and around the house need updating.

Have a good week and enjoy the weather. See you on next weeks thread.
