I started on the 6th of January and lost 8 lb in my first week! Brilliant! Since then 2 weeks on and I have lost nothing! 🤷🏼‍♀️ I am still having the same breakfast and lunch , evening meal has come from the recipe book. I might some days have gone to 900 calories but otherwise all good. Mainly not hungry drinking lots of water and tea – no sugar but splash of milk. It doesn’t make sense, from 2,500 to 3,000 calories a day to 800-900 and not losing weight? I am running again at least twice a week sometimes 3? Any thoughts kind people? Am I being impatient?

Hi Steelersfan and welcome. Excellent first week result and I understand your frustration in not seeing any downward movement on the scales since. However, weight loss is not linear and there will be periods when things plateau, stall and even blip slightly upwards, despite our doing all the right things.

Did you take body measurements at the start, because surprisingly, one can sometimes see dimensions diminishing, before the change registers on the scales, so it’s worth checking.

I think most of us have had to face down periods of no scales movement and it’s at times like this we need to dig deep and stick it out, because positive results will follow. If the scales don’t move soon, it might be worth checking your daily carb intake, with a view to lowering that to kick start things again, because not all calories are equal and your carb intake might be hindering things.

Meanwhile, keep the hydration high, keep up the exercise and make good use of the forum. Feel free to join in on any thread you fancy and I’m sure you’ll get a warm welcome, along with encouragement, advice and support.

Best wishes for every success and hope to read more positive results from you soon.

Yes, full fat yogurt would be much better on carbs than porridge, so maybe try a swap out. Keep posting and perhaps consider joining us on the weekly thread. It’s populated by folks at various stages along the BSD path, so lots of experience and knowledge to draw on.
    Have a good weekend.

Hi, This topic comes up very frequently. Our bodies need to hold water to help it process carbs, as soon as we reduce our carb intake it can release that water, which leads to a dramatic weight loss in the the early days.

After that stage it pays to remember some statistics.

    1lb of fat – 3500 calories.

Meanwhile 1 lt of water weighs 1kg. and we are recommended to drink 2 litres of water a day. So depending on where you are in your water in / out for the day your weight will fluctuate by uoto 2kg (4.4) lbs.

Then add it the fluctuation in the weight of the contents of your digestive system. 800 calories of cheese weighs a lot less than 800 calories worth of celery.

Then there is the complication of the impact high levels of insulin has on other hormone systems, especially the hormone which controls your body repairing and renewing. Bone density, muscle regeneration following exercise are controlled by growth hormone which is suppressed by high insulin levels. But healthy bones and muscles weigh more.

Thats why using scales to measure progress isn’t a good idea. – Focus more on how you feel, how your clothes fit, inches (but don’t focus just on waist and hip measurement, some of us even dropped a shoe size ).

Thank you, I have added to my Fitbit a total itemised food diary today and my carbs total is 32%…. wow that seems high! I have only had veg, salad and yogurt! 😅 I guess it’s those hidden carbs and sneak up! I have measured myself as advice too thank you everyone. I like reading the 3 positives too! 👍
