Many foods list the calorie count on the packaging, per 100g of food. The figure you’re looking for is the kcal one. You’ll need to weigh the portion you’re using and calculate the weight for that.
For things which don’t have packaging which states the calories, do an online search for a calorie counter and use that.
Or just google the type of food and “nutrition”. You’ll get a full nutritional panel on the right with the breakdown of calories, carbs, fat, protein, etc.
You can also use an app to look up and calculate calories and carbs. I use MyFitnessPal. FatSecret is popular with UK folks because its database contains a lot of the brands found in stores there.
