Started the diet 6 days ago and today my mood has sunk considerably. Is this a common side effect? Thanks

Hi Spacetastic1 – yes it is normal to feel down. Several reasons. Your body is rebelling against the lack of carbs, this is known as carb flu. It will pass. Another reason is that dieting means giving up something you enjoy and this makes you think about it, fret about it and feel down. It is natural to mourn something you miss. It is no different to say, giving up smoking, and just as real a feeling. Luckily the feeling will pass after a couple of weeks. Think about all the nice things you can have. You can have full fat anything without living on diet yoghurts and boring salads. Be a bit adventurous with your food and try new things. Enjoy, it is worth it.

I’m sorry you’re feeling down, Spectastic.

This isn’t something I experienced myself, but as Sunshine Girl says it’s not too surprising that a really big change to the way you eat will have a temporary effect on your mood. As your body adjusts I’m sure you’ll feel much better and healthier.
