Using the “bain marie” method this is how to make your own yogurt, which means you know exactly what’s in it. I have found that in the UK & Australia it is easy to find live yogurt, not so in New Zealand – but it must be live yogurt or it won’t work.
Ingredients
• 1 litre of whole milk
• 1-2 tbl live Greek yogurt
• 1-2 tbl whole milk powder
Method
Firstly half fill the slow cooker with boiling water, set on high & put the lid on.
Bring the milk almost to a boil, remove from the heat & allow to cool to blood heat. Whisk in the yogurt & milk powder then strain into a heat proof dish, put a lid on or cover with foil.
Lower the covered dish into the slow cooker, adjust the water level to 3/4 up the side of the dish, put the lid on the slow cooker then turn the slow cooker off. There should be sufficient heat to "set" the yogurt.
I usually make mine at bed time & have fresh yogurt in the morning - easy peasy !
