By the way SunnyB thanks for your suggestion that I might be under eating good fats & protein & I have been increasing my protein intake & having more kefir!. However as I had feared I gained another 0.75lbs when I weighed today & seem to be going backwards this month & in fact since last January have gained 8lbs rather than at least losing that much🙁
I’m not happy about this but still want to keep trying to lose as much weight as I can before Christmas. I hava a bowls final celebration lunch tomorrow & must do better next week.🤞

Hello all, lovely to read all your posts 🙂
I’ve had a good week- 1kg down from a week ago, most likely water weight in part as I’ve just restarted, but hey, a loss is a loss!
All this talk of weather made me look it up and interestingly your temps in the UK right now are very similar to here (Sydney, Australia) except of course we are in spring and you are at the tail end of summer/early autumn.
I’ve been walking more this week and also had my last physio appt (for ankle) and he said it’s about 85% of normal capacity so getting there 🙂
Keep on keeping on everyone! -
Hi NOKIE, i think working out a food list is a great idea. Im going to do that right now. I normally just choose food in a rather haphazard way,but planning instead must be a better way surely. Enjoy your familytime and yes isnt it nice to see some Saturday sunshine!X

Hi, I am sooo delighted with my test results but I am going to delay my treat for a while, so I can be nearer my weight goal! (And until after I have seen the GP on the 25th) Weighing in today I am still in the 2lb club, but a loss is a loss!
S-G I also understand where you are coming from. To hear people at the start of a journey questioning the route, when you KNOW that the way is clear, must be extremely frustrating.
Lucy, I started the BSD on the 18th June (15st 4lb)…I had already started dieting (with carbs) on the 11th June, when I weighed in at my heaviest ever – 15st 7lb. I had been diagnosed as Diabetic on the 11th! I only heard about the BSD on 15th June when I bought the book and recipe book.
I had previously dieted from 2016 (start weight 14st 8lb ) when I was told I was pre diabetic (HbA1c 43), through to 2018 (end weight 10st 2lb, HbA1c 45) and kept the weight at about that level until mid 2020. I used the ‘traditional approach’ of eating ‘healthier’ carbs, whole grain rice and pasta, granary/seeded bread, and skin on potatoes, plus low fat everything I could find! Despite the weight loss I went further into the pre diabetic range. So when I was told I am now diabetic, I knew already that the conventional diet was not going to work!
During lockdown I gradually regained the weight until I was about 14st after Christmas 2023. This year I became more and more inactive and depressed, comfort eating (a whole box of Thorntons chocolates at one sitting a couple of times a week…bags of doughnuts etc etc…you get the picture!) and my weight ballooned to 15st 7lb by early June. I am so determined to get back to a manageable weight, and control my diabetes that I have been extremely strict with myself. But I am human and have slipped a few times.
I am really working on getting to my goals…one at a time (first was to get back down to pre-diabetic range ✅, next is to get back into the winter coat I bought in 2019! I love that coat!!)…then keep my BS steady, so I am considered a diabetic whose diabetes is controlled by diet!
I know I could not have been so motivated without these forums and people like S-G and Verano who have kept me going!
Thank you all!

Hi everyone, how are you all doing?
Arcticfox I hope your elimination diet has got off to a good start? Stay strong!
Dawn welcome aboard! Keep us posted as to how you are getting on, and how we can help?
Mariet I agree with sunshine-girl you have worked so hard and deserve the results you are now seeing. I’m really pleased for you 👏
Hello to Yowzer, Nokie, Sue, Cathy (once you’re back from your cruise!) and anyone else reading this. Hope that you are all is doing ok too?
I’ve lost 1lb so far but need to up my game as I’m still allowing too many wrong food choices to creep in. But the exercise is going well so I’m happy overall. I know I need to stay focused on the WoE and I will see the results I want to. And I know I do best when following recipes from one of the books, I just need to get better organised with advance meal planning and shopping.
Have a wonderful weekend xx

I need some of your determination to rub off on me🤔 My husband & I went up to London yesterday for lunch with friends & I have been trying to eat much fewer lower carb calories today but will find out when I weigh tomorrow 🤔

on 13 Sep 2024 at 14:08 in Fast 800Hi everyone, I didn’t get weighed today because I lost a fair chunk yesterday and didn’t want to be disappointed if it had blipped up as it can day by day. So will leave it for a couple of days.
Verano, was that about me getting a sandwich and throwing the bread away 🙂 Still do that, or eat the meat out of a sausage roll. I expect a buffet to be full of fresh cheeses, meats, salads and maybe some fruit, not stodge, stodge and more stodge. Went to an event recently at a chateau and it was a buffet so I thought great – posh nosh on a buffet (as above). When it arrived it was either in bread buns (burgers) or deep fried with batter or breadcrumbs. When I told them I couldn’t eat it they said I should have told them beforehand. So lesson learnt. They did do me some chicken bits without the batter and then ask if I would like some chips to go with it 🙂 People, really.
I envy you and your trips and I was saying to hubby I would like to just pack a case and go off somewhere whenever we felt like it. But we have 3 cats and it is a military operation getting everything sorted. However, that is working in my favour as we have had nothing in our diaries except for a few quiz nights from beginning of September to end of December when we visit family again. Great for my long term plan. I took my inspiration from Mel Robbins in a podcast about if you really want something, make it into a project with a start and end date and work towards that goal. She say 6 months is good so that is what I am doing. 3.33lbs per month adds up to 20lbs. No more messing with 2lbs on and 2lbs off and so on. So I am also being grateful to be able to concentrate on me and my needs and goals.
Have a great weekend and keep on keeping on…
-
Just made me smile. I can imagine you telling your friend how great this plan is and she is not listening. Know that feeling very well. Good for you for eventually getting it. That bit about having to help yourself, that is what we all experienced and that is why we are here for each other. Keep going.
-
Absolutely I understand why you drum it into people. I think though if they are like me uts a panic stage…newly diagnosed, a ton of weight to lose that I’ve been trying to do for years without success which gave me no will.power either as there were no results to incentavise me. Suddenly you’re faced with having to give up all the normal sweet stuff involved in dieting and on top of that carbs. Suddenly I found myself asking can I never have this or that or can I have it as a one off etc….its fear of the unknown. Where as you know how successful this can be and it’s hard to get that across. After my panic week or so I’ve settled into it and am surprised how I have stuck to it . My friend does slimming world and they love carbs on that diet, ridiculous she puts on a few pounds, loses a few pounds but still keeps on it. She won’t switch to what I’m doing and I find that frustrating too. I weighed in at the heaviest I have ever been so had to do something.
You have done so very well to adopt it as a lifestyle. Amazing. I had to help myself. 7 blood pressure meds I tried and they all made me ill. Now I don’t need them. Just got to get out of the pre range.
Only lost 1lb this week which I feel gutted about. But that’s one stone 10lbs now.

on 13 Sep 2024 at 07:51 in Fast 800Good morning!
So great to read all your positive posts it’s put me on the right track for getting back into the swing of things.
Well done S-g and Pootle , great results. Love your long term goal setting idea s-g.
Sunny hope you’re having a good trip. We came back yesterday as you were leaving!
Wendy sounds like a great summer with wonderful family time. Sometimes we have to just go with the flow to enjoy those occasions to the fullest extent.
Welcome to the newcomers and returners. This is definitely the right place!
Julia …. buffets! I’m with s-g here. I avoid buffets whenever possible and eat from a menu. Sometimes it’s not the ‘hunger’ monster but the ‘just fancy a little bit’ monster that wins at a buffet for me! Afternoon tea is simply, we just avoid them!
Margaret don’t worry too much about general anaesthetics and age/fitness. They tend to use sedation and spinal anaesthesia now for lower body surgery. I’ve had two extensive hip surgeries with that method and couldn’t tell any difference!
So to me. Home from lovely family time in Portugal. Naturally after 15 days AWOL I have a little extra baggage, 5.2lbs, to be exact but that will be soon be gone. I’m going to set out some short and long term goals following s-g’s lead. I have to be realistic as we have another trip planned at the start of October. No point in setting myself up to fail so my first short term goal will be to lose this holiday gain before our next trip. I will work out my longer term goals later today.
Hope everyone is continuing to do well.

Lucy, I found this diet when I was 11 years diagnosed and already on insulin. I started on 24 units and by this time was on 44 units and still had BG of over 200 (about 11.0 on the other scale) and I used to cry every night because I didn’t know what I was doing wrong. I saw a nutritionist and she put me on over 300g of carbs per day to keep my numbers steady and keep me safe. Yeah, like hell. My numbers stayed the same and I gained 5kgs in the 3 months I stuck with her plan. Then I found Michael Mosley and prayed it wasn’t just another trick or crazy pill or something like that. I guess you could say the rest is history. I now run at HbA1c of around 6.0 but I still use 16 units of insulin which I am currently having to lower as my BG morning tests are around 4.0.
As for my weight. I weighed in a exactly 9 stone when I was diagnosed. I tried meds but they made me ill so doctor put me on insulin. In 6 months I had gone up to 11 stones 9lbs. Fortunately, it didn’t really go up more but try as I might I couldn’t lose anything – insulin causes your body to store glucose in the fat cells and it can’t get rid of it. My first 12 week stint on BSD I lost 13lbs. My total loss was 2 stone. However, besides putting on a few pounds here and there on holidays and treats etc, my BG stayed steady but I just sat at the same weight. I need to lose another 2 stone and I have set myself a goal of 3.3lbs per month for 6 months – up to my birthday in February. If I can do it I will have lost another 20lbs. I am sure I can do this as I am fed up of messing about with my weight now that my BG is looking good most of the time. My diet is obviously good by my results, just need to combat the insulin and make a real effort to lose more weight.
It is a total lifestyle for me. I am a diabetic every day, not just when I feel like it or feel like having cake. I find it easy to say no but I do like my wine and an occasional vodka and they would be my version of your Mars Bar.
Hope you can understand where I am coming from when I get strict with newly diagnosed diabetics or pre-. I want to save you from the heartache I have had to go through. All my thanks go out to Dr Mosley and Prof. Roy Taylor because they have saved my life.
-
Sunshine girl that’s amazing you have done so well.
It’s not so easy so you have achieved a lot. How much have you lost or was yours about diabetes more than weight?
In the beginning I was fretting so mich about how I woukd sustain this but I have. My low carb bread and occasional treats have kept me going.
I hope I have lost something tomorrow . Thanks for your .message x -

on 12 Sep 2024 at 16:45 in Fast 800S-G I haven’t seen the Dr yet…cannot get an appointment until the 25th, and I am not prepared to see a different GP. I think she will be very interested, when she saw me 3 months ago, she wanted to know about the BSD as I told her I was using it! She even told the Diabetes Nurse not to talk to me about diet…which she couldn’t help doing…..was very patronising and told me that, on no account was I to cut carbs…on the contrary, I should be eating them at every meal!!! I have kept a very detailed diary of my food (calories, carbs and protein), weight, activity, etc. I hope never to see that nurse again, but expect I will have to.
My ‘treat’ meal out will not involve bread…but I might give in to a very few chips!

Mariet, it has nothing to do with the weather. It is done to your persistence and determination and staying on plan. Take the credit, don’t give it to the ether – you lost that weight 🙂

on 12 Sep 2024 at 14:11 in Fast 800Hi there all you lovely people. Welcome to SunshineOrange although I think you have been lurking and posted before. Just get on the plan and make a start, it can’t hurt and you and your daughter can help each other with motivation. My daughter and I exchange our weights most days and cheer each other on or give hugs when needed. She is far away so it also tells me how she is feeling by the tone of her message so it is not all about diets and weight.
Pootle, already mentioned on the Advice thread but once again congratulations. I am amazed at the amount of weight lost. Did your doctor/nurse have anything to say, anything to ask – they need to know it can be done and not always by their way or drugs.
Californiagirl, I am pleased that I can listen to her videos and understand 70% but found the one with the bloke wanting to celebrate very much slang. But as I say that is what I need. It is not slang like kids use it is just like we might have different ways of saying sit down i.e. asseyez-vous or prendre place (take a seat), installez-vous (settle yourself in a waiting area usually) or gare ton fesse (park your arse). I might not ever get round to using them but I have to recognise what is being said to me. When I was in hospital they were trying to move me from the stretcher onto the operating table and one guy said leve ton fesse (lift your arse) much to my amusement. The French do not speak what we are taught in school. Even down to using ‘on’ for us or we instead of nous and dropping the ‘ne’ in the negative. It takes some getting used to actually using it. Although if I say – je ne danse pas – they will understand I don’t danse but they will think I am a tourist 🙂
Nearly the end of the week and still feeling upbeat. Keep on keeping on…
-
Lucy dont fret about a small gain but I had a treat just like you did and gained 1lb and today it is gone and another half a pound with it. If you really stick to this plan it does work. Also my BG is going down and down and I am having to reduce the amount of insulin I use. Never quite managed to get off all my meds but certainly made lots of reduction in cholesterol, BP and diabetes meds instead of what the doctor said that I would have to take more and more. Not me, no way, I never give up.
Pootle, that is absolutely wonderful news, next step is to get out of the pre-diabetes level. Yes have a treat but you might find that the stodge doesn’t have the same appeal as before. Or take advice from the Glucose Goddess and if you are tempted to the bread don’t touch it until you have had some salad or veg, to line your gut and slow down the transition of the carbs. No matter what you eat or drink just make sure you are back on plan the very next day. Congratulations.
-
That’s brilliant news. How long have you been doing rhis diet now?
How much have you lost so far?
Weigh in tomorrow for me but not boding well as midweek showed I had put on.
Yes you make sure you go out for a no holds barred meal and drinks lol. You deserve it. X -

on 12 Sep 2024 at 13:20 in Fast 800Yay!! Celebration time coming up….3 month blood test results have shown that my HbA1c number has dropped from 49 to 45!! My weight has dropped from 15st 7lb to 11st 13lb…. in 3 months. Now for the next stone, watch this space! Thanks for all the advice and support. I haven’t posted often, but when I have been tempted to give up, reading all your posts has kept me going!
-
Thank you all so much for the encouragement and support!
Blood test results are in!!! HbA1c has dropped from 49 (Diabetic) back to 45 (pre-diabetic). A brilliant result considering the inhaler I use says it will put the diabetic numbers up!!
Yay! So I will celebrate in a couple of weeks, when life is a bit quieter, with a meal out at my favourite restaurant..not avoiding anything! Then back to seriously getting the next stone off! -
Checking in for this week and thrilled because a kilo jumped off last week 😁
No change in anything I’ve done, except that the weather is a little cooler so maybe not retaining fluid which I do in hot weather. But I’m really pleased about it and also that after nearly a year of trying, people have started to ask me if I’ve lost weight so it must be beginning to show.
Keep on keeping on everyone! -
Sunshine-Girl….I cannot wait either!!!! Test taken yesterday, they said results possibly this afternoon , more likely tomorrow afternoon! 🤞

She is fun to listen to though, and I am trying to just let the cadence of the speech come into my mind — French is so beautiful!

I also have my SAD lamp now on whilst sewing & reading & am also awaiting the arrival of St John’s Wort that I will start using to see if it helps. My weighing on Saturday will show if I have done better weight wise this week but it still feels more difficult than before.

on 11 Sep 2024 at 13:46 in Fast 800Hi there,
Had my little treat last night after reaching my 1 months goal, getting great blood results and having a good appt with Dr Gorgeous. So I allowed myself a couple of vodka and tonics. Gained a tiny amount but know it will be fluid retention and will soon go.
I started today with a homemade smoothie of figs, spinach, seeds and almond milk and then a lunch of tuna salad so I am being really strict now on calories while still having delicious food – although my poorly cat got a share of the tuna.
Plenty of rain right now but we are forecast for some more good weather in the next couple of weeks. Dare I say I might get to have another swim or two although the water will be freeeeeeeezing.
Keep on keeping on…
-
I guess I will have to keep this thread going while you are away 🙂 Have a wonderful time, how long are you gone for.
My positives are:-
Just that I am feeling positive with a new start for my new goal (3.3lbs by 7th Oct)
Just been to the farm shop 5 mins away from us and bought 2 dozen eggs and browsed their lovely fresh produce – although I only bought eggs.
Lovely compliment from my grandson. Talking about not being able to get a car loan after the age of 70 (seems to be the case here) and he said I didnt have to worry as I wont be 70 for ages – bless him, I am already 71. -
Hi Lucy, I hope you are straight back on plan because the weight gain you have is not fat gained, it is actually fluid held in by the bread and crisp carbs. It will soon disappear so just keep going.
Pootle, cant wait to hear your results. I got mine within 4 hours but not sure how it works in the UK but hope it wont be too long a wait.
-
Really good luck today Pootle. When do you get rhe results. I have been pre diabetic for a couple of years and then drifted into diabetic hence this diet and on my 2 week double check blood test I was back to being pre diabetic only after a couple weeks so you are going to have no issues. It’s going to be fantastic news. Let me know! Well I weighed rhis morning and have put weight on, it’s not my official weigh in day which is Friday but 5 days into this week and seems I have put a lb on, can’t surely be the sandwich and crisps??? Feel deflated but I have lost every week so maybe this is what happens but it’s going to hurt if that’s the case on Friday. My target was 2 stone by the time I go on hols which is 2nd Oct. So times running out! 5lbs to go or maybe more if I have put on weight this week.
Good luck today. You’re going to smash it
X -
Thanks for joining in here SG. Glad your medical check when with flying colours. Thanks also for reporting the spam threads posted on the forum today. Frustrating that it seems to have become a target again.
My positives today are ….
👩🌾🌼 mini gardening session, wrapping some pots containing vulnerable plants in agrifleece.
🛏🧺 bedding changed and linen washed.
🧳🧳 packing complete, except for very last minute stuff. One more day at home, then we’ll be starting our travels again. Will not be as present after Thursday, but will drop in when I can … hopefully others will post on this thread from time to time to keep it alive.
-
Thanks Lucy. 🤞
Don’t beat yourself up too much…it is human nature, we all slip at times! We are none of us perfect and have to forgive ourselves when we fall, pick ourselves up and start again! I indulged in some dry roasted peanuts last week…my husband was eating them and I was hungry..!! 😢But I have been ultra strict since!
I am sure it won’t have done too much damage, so long as we think diet again, and not let it happen too often!
Tomorrow is the 3 month blood test….I am sooo hopeful! If my numbers are down we are going to go out for a meal to a wonderful seafood restaurant! 🤞🦀
Thinking of you…K.x
-
Really good luck Pootle with your tests I’m sure rhey will be brilliant .
Well done too with continued weight loss. I have a little treat every half stone or stone.
But bad news is today I have fallen off the wagon!! Feel a bit gutted but it’s only the second time. So basically I got too hungry and was out and about and ended up buying a Tesco meal deal. Sandwich and crisps and then I finished my husbands crisps too. So I’ve blown it for this week probably just as I’m getting closer to the 2 stone mark. I’m annoyed but it just came over me and I did it.
😪 -
Hi there, here to report my positives:-
Successful visit to the doctors, he is very pleased with my results.
Sun shining again.
Washing on the line – oh the little things that please us. -

on 10 Sep 2024 at 15:26 in Fast 800Hi all, Tulip, SunnyB and Margaret, seems like we are all in the same situation. I too am stalling, even gained a smidge and no progress for a week. I cannot think what it could be except I do seem to be hungry but also restless and picky. When I pick I try to stick to olives and some fruit I bought in an expensive tub (time of the year) but I have a craving for something and I don’t know what. Calories are a bit over 800 but, like yesterday it was mainly all the seeds I had with my stewed figs and yoghurt – must stop with the coconut slivers as they are very high.
Just back from the doctors. I was going to have a word about him always weighing me and how bad it makes me feel – especially if I have gained. But my husband told me he also weighs him every time. So we should just be grateful we have a doctor who spends the time to weigh us, do our blood pressure, pulse, listen to my chest and heart. All is fine and he was so happy with my results. We went through all my medications and he is happy with what I am on – it is a virtual pharmacy now I have asthma and glaucoma but, again, I should be grateful.
Californiagirl, how are you getting on with the French Wine Culture course. I have found some of the slang a bit difficult but it is really what I need as the French don’t speak the same as we were taught in school. It is good to keep up to date with the colloquial phrases.

on 10 Sep 2024 at 12:34 in Fast 800Margaret, I’ve been using my SAD lamp for over a week now, because the mornings have been so grey and autumnal. Have also started taking Vit D again too, in the hope of staying off a major mood slump later.
If you’re hungry all the time, could be worth checking you’re getting enough good fats and protein, as these help to keep you feeling sated.
Thanks for the encouragement, Margaret…. it’s much appreciated. You keep going too.

I’m also finding it very tedious continuing to prepare meals from scratch🙁 I know the cooler weather & grey days are not helping & I am wondering if I am going to be badly affected by SAD this year after not really suffering from it last year. on 10 Sep 2024 at 09:46 in Fast 800You’re not alone, Tulip, just jeep plugging away, it will come right. Rather disappointingly I too seem to have stalled, despite a couple of fasting days I find myself at exactly the same spot on the scales as this time last week.
However, I’m being strict with myself until we go away Thursday, when I’ll start to have less control on catering and thus consumption. Will try hard not to mindlessly chomp through carbs though.

grwat keeping up.with everyone’s news tho xx -
Hello everyone,
Please count me in on this challenge. Thanks for setting up the thread, DCT.
I’ve got my Obesity Code Cookbook at the ready, and my fridge is full of veggies. The garden is producing lots of squash, beans, tomatoes and zucchinni right now too. I’ve got just a little bit of kefir and cheese to finish up over the next 2 days, and then I will be on just fruits, veggies and seeds for the next 2 weeks. I will need to stay strong as I don’t think it will be easy. Then I can start adding the common allergens back in one at a time to see what if any are causing symptoms. I think the 100 days is perfect as it will be enough time to allow me to get through the elimination diet and then to figure out what I’m going to be able to eat going forward.
Good luck everyone! -
Just one positive today. Visit from one of OH’s cousins and elderly aunt, lovely time catching up on news, spipping tea and sharing laughs.
Hope your weekend has brought positives your way. Please let us know about one or two of them. -

on 8 Sep 2024 at 18:25 in Fast 800It was nice of your to clean up the Dr. Mosely memorial page — the funny thing on it is that the people who posted are the same posters perennially here on the forums! He helped so many people — most of whom never posted here at all.
Wendy1947 (Margaret) nice job! Driving practice! The freedom of a car is one of my most valued things — funnily enough, it is one of the reasons I have not purchased an electric car. The idea of worrying about the “range” and where to plug in and how long I have to wait for the refill has really made me not want to try that out. I keep telling my husband, that with an internal combustion engine (an ICE) I can fill up in five minutes almost anywhere and I can drive all the way to Alaska from my home or all the way to Patagonia at the tip of South America! I cannot do that with an electric battery car. Ha Ha talk about “range anxiety”!!!
I think automobile-freedom runs in my family — my grandfather’s brother (my great-uncle) was the first person to drive all the way across the United States with his wife in the early 1900’s. My dad learned to drive at the age of 10 in the orange groves of Los Angeles (just a few of those left now, on the far eastern edge of LA county) and he did not give up his driver’s license literally until he died at age 96. He drove every day to his office 65 miles from his home.
Every kid in my family got their drivers license on the day of their 16th birthday — I guess we are a car focused family. But living in California sort of makes that a necessity — we are 14 hours driving north to south and about six hours east to west. Big state. Driving six hours one way for a weekend jaunt is normal. -

on 8 Sep 2024 at 16:06 in Fast 800I have gone for another test drive this afternoon, between showers, and feel pleased with myself. I was a little nervous but did it & was much less heavy footed this time on the accelerator & brakes😀

on 8 Sep 2024 at 11:23 in Fast 800Thank you SunnyB & S-G yes it’s wise to avoid snacks & they usually stay hidden away for our son to extract when he visits us but he regards Bolli as a family treat however does say he eats more healthy food otherwise when he visits😀
My husband & I have been watching our recorded MMs latest series & it’s very poignant seeing him & hearing Claire’s introduction. He was so good at explaining physiology in a simple way comparing our inner working with everyday things. I don’t think there is anyone else who will attempt to make similar programmes 🤔
Today I’m battling with myself as to whether I will have another attempt at driving my husbands car since I no longer have one of my own. My hesitation so far was my cataract needing to be done to improve my sight that was done last year & now how much pressure to put on my right knee although the car is an automatic. I know that I’m prevaricating but still feel nervous going back to driving although with my sensible head on I would need to drive in an emergency if my husband was unable to!
Oh well keep on going everyone you are all doing so well 👏👏
