Bigeater …. carbs or net carbs that is the question!

I get really confused but apparently in the UK the carb figure is given net of carbs but in the US it’s gross so you have to subtract the fibre. I THINK. I’m sure somebody will set me straight if this is wrong. My thoughts are that we need to use UK apps etc. You can always get the ‘proper’ counts of packaged/canned foods etc from supermarket online shopping websites.

Bugs apparently have lots of protein …. interesting thought …. chocolate covered crickets …. maybe not!

Thanks Verano, I am in Australia, in the North where our winter is like your summer, so they say.

We are however the 4th fattest nation on the planet – after Mexico, the US, New Zealand and then yay! it’s fat Australia.

Anyway, get to the point, I think cronometer is American and they do isolate fibre from total carbs, so I will deduct this amount.

Whoever would have thought that the great Shakespeare would one day wade into the notion of net carbs?

I think I need to lighten up, follow the principles, be patient, and eventually success will be mine and yours too.

    Cheers

    DAY 6 of 7

Hope everyone is still surviving this trial. I had a less than perfect day yesterday .. no … it was a lousy day BSDwise. Just 2 days left now and I WILL get back on track. Don’t know what happened really. I went to the hairdressers then was very late for lunch and was starving so had some cheese and oat cakes because it was quick but then started on the digestives. Why??? Anyway I logged the whole lot and I was around 1300/100 which on a normal ‘old’ day would have been ‘good’. So, time to move on and get back on track.

Bigeater patience is a virtue as they say. Yes just follow the principles and it will happen, however slowly, it will happen. We don’t all lose weight like demons some of us are slow and steady but we all get there in the end with a bit of perseverance.

It is true your winters are like our summers. I was in Sydney a few years ago in July, your midwinter?, and it was like sunny days in May here! But I didn’t know that Australia was so high up the fat scale. All that, sun, outdoor life and great fish don’t really add up to ‘fat’ but there you go. Maybe were all brainwashed by the adverts of blond beauties on Bondi. Mind you I do remember fantastic fish and chips on Bondi too!

So back to the grindstone have a good day all.

Joining the club Verano, mu day turned out disastrously in the end. Good food choices till I left home at 4.20pm to go and play fiddle for a 18th birthday gig. Thought I’d plenty of time to pick up a BSD friendly dinner to keep me going at the town where I met a colleague to share the driving but unfortunately the traffic was so atrocious I arrived in the nick of time to jump in gis car. Arrived at gig and the only thing I could get at the pub in the village was crisps (they didn’t even have peanuts which would have been a much better choice). Result was that by 10pm when the buffet appeared I was starving (always am wgen playing fiddle all night, not helped by zero protein in the crisps for ‘tea’) and ended up gorging on mini quiches and cocktail sausages – the really rubbish quality ones with dubious amounts of meat and lots of filler! No idea at all of the calories but having been there before decided to skip breakfast and just drink copious amounts of sparkling water.

The biggest lesson I still have not learned is PREPARE AHEAD! Had I taken a packed tea with me (was running around like a headless chi ken instead ) I would have been able to resist the buffet rubbish!
Today is a new day. Hope some of you are faring better!

Hey verano. Thanks for your support but i gotta say…….whats with the digestive biscuits…. you dont need them. ….what are you doing? Say goodbye to the digestive biscuits…. just say digestive biscuits you are the enemy and i dont need you. Its simple. You are sabotaging. Love from bigeate

Thanks bigeater but I’m afraid your post was too late for today! I did only have one though so could have been worse. Why? I just don’t know. I think I eat them out of boredom rather than anything else. I think I’m just in a rut with food and I’m sure we all get like that at times.

I need to get out some cookery books and browse and hopefully that will help. Have just had an email from Yummly with kebab ideas which look lovely. Going to the sun on Monday so will revise my eating to ‘sunshine’ food!

I’ll stop sabotaging myself and eat ‘healthily’ again I promise. Need to make tomorrow count as the last day of this 7. Will probably need another 7 day challenge to get me through the last week of the 4 week challenge with a half decent result. Will need to give it some serious thought.

    Again thanks for your support.

P.S. just making pavlovas for my OH who had a crowd of friends coming tomorrow ….. I will not eat them! Must admit to one of two licks of fingers though as I was putting them in the oven!

    Hi Verano,
I am a great one to talk about sabotage. Had friends over for dinner and while the meal was fine, I proceeded to drink many glasses of wine. I think my rationale was…..I am not losing weight…..I will be very strict soon……and what the hell….plus I don’t care. And for a while I didn’t care as I have been following the guidelines for about 5 months and lately ie the past few weeks havent lost an ounce.

Anyway thats what I did and I regret it now.

I had already decided to go onto optifast shakes in a few days after I use up what is in the fridge and thats what I will do. I am tired of not getting anywhere and think this drastic step will help. I will have 3 shakes and some low carb vegies every day for two weeks. Its doable, I have done it before…..so a new plan.

After that, back to the bsd as before.

If I dont catch you before, have a wonderful wonderful holiday.

All the best from bigeater)and now, it seems, big drinker:(

I cracked the entertaining conundrum this morning as we had a crowd of friends over for BREAKFAST! They all came to watch the first British Lions Match in NZ (kick off 8.35am BST) What a great idea – BSD friendly foods and no alcohol 😋 Copious coffee though 😝

    DAY 7 of 7

Another sad day here in the UK.

We’ve reached our last day of our seven and I hope everyone has made some headway and gained a little from the challenge. I’m afraid I’ve not really got back on track although I will do my best today.

    Great idea Theodora!

Wish you luck with the shakes bigeater. I know that I just wouldn’t have the willpower for that but I’m sure it will work.

    Have a good day.

    Hi Verano

Borrowing and bending a quote from the Bard.
CARBS OR NO CARBS…THAT IS THE QUESTION?
We know the nobler way…..let’s be noble.

I witnessed a great way to share this week. A three year old wanted more banana bread, his mother was resisting until he and I settled, on a plan, let’s go half and half. The grin on his face was amazing 😆 He took the piece and pinched off 2 wee chunks and put them on my plate, way less than half, this cunning fellow had his eye on the prize, and he was sharing. I was eating banana bread because it was made for my visit and gluten free out of consideration. I am OK eating the odd extra, then when he gave me two tiny chunks, I was quite happy with my (half)..once upon a time, three years old or not, I would have been scavenging for MY share. 🙄, carb driven, food driven. Lesson; just a little, just a taste, is enough to satisfy. Stop before you eat the entire thing.
Our backyard birds are scoring well from my new thinking, if it is not suitable, or not quite right, out it goes. In th past I couldn’t stand waste….therefore I became the waste-bin.

Keep at it Verano….7 days is followed by guess what, the opportunity of another 7 days.

Haha, Nettle, sadly I think you may be right – particularly after today’s showing. Can only hope for some improvement once they have actually managed a training session together.

My o/h and 2 sons, along with several friends are leaving tomorrow to join the tour in your beautiful country, so thank you on their behalf for the welcome. I am sure, regardless of results, they will have a wonderful time.

OK so that’s it.. seven days over and I hope everyone has managed to get back on track. I haven’t.

LOL Nettle… good question! An interesting tale and maybe one we can all learn from.

So I have actually stood still for the last week although during that time I have lost and gained back a few pounds so have managed to get nowhere. I have still been beset by the demon digestives but I have now kicked them into touch … no more will pass my lips.

My next challenge is to have a ‘dry’ holiday. I know that I won’t do that but I will do my very best to be moderate. My goal is to gain no weight while I’m away … a loss will be a bonus.

As you say Nettle this seven days will be followed by the opportunity of another seven. Lets make them count towards a healthier body with no blood sugar peaks.

Vernao: Thanks for starting Just 7 days. Sorry to hear that you didn’t get back on track like you wanted to. But if you keep trying than I’m sure things will fall into place. I manage to lose 2 lbs. I had to many days that were hard for me to. But at least I did better than I have for a while now.

Looking forward for the next 7 days.

My thanks as weĺ. I haven’t lost but I have stayed reasonably on track and think this is as much due to natural plateaux as much as anything. It has helped me to stay honest.
Good luck to all on our continued journeys.
