    Hello Everyone – I am new…. I started the eight week challenge today after a series of unfortunate events!

    My husband bought me gym membership for Valentines Day and during my assessment the trainer took my blood pressure… it was insanely high. She was sent me packing and I needed a permission slip from my GP to say it was OK. I saw the practice nurse who said there was NO WAY she would allow me to jog to the post box let alone train in a gym. My BP was just too high… after hours of resting and testing and donating bloods and ECG they let me walk out of the surgery… under the agreement that I did this diet. (I am also pre-diabetic)

    So this is my prescription. 8 weeks of BSD.

    I have around 20kgs to lose, but more importantly shift my diastollic pressure from 121 to somewhere in the 80s.

    If I don’t follow this plan, I will have to go onto medication for life – which I know isn’t a huge deal but to me it feels like the beginning of the end… and I’m 37!

    Its too soon to resign myself to medications and a life of caution. If i’m honest… I knew this train was coming….

    Has anyone out there had high BP and seen a reduction? Anyone lost 20kgs in the 8 weeks?!

    Happy to be here…. choosing life 🙂

    Hi Pinklolly – have a good dig around on the forum, there are lots of folks out there with inspiring stories, who have lost incredible amounts; come off medication; improved BP as well as BS and seen better cholesterol results. Some of us lose more slowly than others, so just embrace all the success that comes your way, no matter how small. Many of us are in for the long haul and know that this is a new way of life, not a quick fix and return to the old ways.

    Be sure to use the forum to keep you motivated, ask for advise and support when needed and be sure to let us know how you are progressing. Welcome to your new life!

    HI Pinklolly,
    I started BSD after having the holy trinity of:
    * High blood pressure – around 150/95
    * High blood sugar HBA1C of 67
    * High cholesterol – ratio of 5.4

    Add to that a starting weight of 150kg and symptoms of fatty liver – the world wasn’t a great place and the threat of a swathe of drugs was very real!

    I started on BSD seriously at the start of September. After eight weeks:
    * Blood pressure – 115/70
    * HBA1C of 54 (by Jan 17 it was 35!)
    * Cholesterol at 4.7
    * Symptoms of fatty liver gone

    By nine weeks I had lost 21kg. Currently 35kg down. Not a linear drop so you just have to keep at it. These forums are a true goldmine of really valuable information.

    So not easy but definitely doable!

    Hi Pinklolly – my daughter was also recommended the book by her GP and used it as a ‘prescription’ She lost 20kg in her first 8 weeks and is still going strong and looking lovely! She inspired me to get cracking after Christmas – almost at 2st in Week 7. You can do it, you have the right attitude. Keep it up.

    Thank you so much! That’s soooooo encouraging to hear. I have discovered today that I also have high cholesterol (bloods back!) and a vitamin d deficiency but I think we all have that one!!

    Anyway, the good news is that liver and renal functions are all groovy…

    Day two and I have a stinking headache but am not really hungry so that’s good!! 🙂

    Thank you for your responses! 🙂

    Hi pinklolly, I’m also new today. Bought the book ages ago but just started the diet on Monday (I may just be getting to the headache stage ’cause I can feel it coming on and I was starving earlier today). Like you I also have high blood pressure (I’ve been on meds for over 10 years). My doctor discussed this diet with me so I decided to give it a whirl. My daughter is getting married in May and I don’T really want to be the fat mother of the bride. I need to lose at least 5 stone so I’m determined to do it. The recipes in the book are lovely (although I’ve had courgetti bolognese for 2 days because there’s only hubby and myself to eat it 😃😃😃 Looking forward to new recipes and ideas.
