I’m tutting as if faced with a MOUNTAIN of wilted kale here. How can I be expected to make date and walnut bread if the OH has taken the walnuts to work???! By the way, I have removed all expletives that were in the original question. I hope he hasn’t pigged them all or he can go straight to Aldi. Grrrrrrrr 😡
The inconsiderate… *takes deep breath, remembers this is not Mumsnet and certain words are not acceptable here, if – wholly warranted*
Was it a full bag???
Hahaaaaa
https://wholefoodsimply.com/3-ingredient-banana-pudding/
I kind of want to make this..with half the dates instead of the amount here. Worked out its only 164 calories a portion so could be breakfast! I know lots of carbs but maybe half a portion? Say yes!!
Yes a whole ******** bag 😱 He eats a lot of them because of their ‘powers ‘ (google them alongside bananas, avocados & dark chocolate. He’s weird)
He’s in a panic and rushing home now. I feel a low carb dinner coming on for HIM
Hmm I hate to wilt your kale Eps but I think banana is on the no no list for BSD. Too much fructose I think 😔
The ******** total ****. Powers, my ****. They were meant for your ******* bread!
That’s what I thought, but damn it looks good. I suppose once in a while won’t hurt… but then you could say the same about pizza and bread and cake and Reese’s Giant Peanut Butter Cups… it’s your call though.
Ah good the walnuts are being rushed home 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Yes too many bananas which are full of sugar but I may make anyway. Won’t give you all details though so as not to influence. 😂😂👍
On a more suitable note, my cauliflower rice was yuuuun again. The vegetable that keeps on giving😍😍
HELL no, I want the details. You think it would work with peanut butter? And – that amount makes 4. The recipe can be divided easily into 4. Make one. Simples 🙂
Settled on this instead, less bananas!
https://wholefoodsimply.com/baked-banana-custard/
Almond butter is so yum but yes I’d say other one would totally work with peanut butter. But it’s not a good choice so probably better to have another desert! No I’ll have to convince you all to not have it 🙄😊
Good luck convincing me when I have all the ingredients heeeeeeeeeeeeeere! Mwahahahahahaha. I’ll remind you of this next Saturday when I’ve put on 7lbs and I’m sobbing… 😛
Second one looks good too though, tbf?
Well a moment on the lips a life time on the hips that’s all I’m saying..step away from the bananas.. 😠🤓
Had spoon of delicious yoghurt instead..yum. Now if only I had some walnuts😹😹
Hmmmmm. Where could one get some walnuts from. Nip across to Janey and see if she has any…
Oi! I’ll have you know the walnuts have just arrived home unscathed. I shall be firing up the Delorean (so to speak) presently…
Ooo too much information Janey! 😳
LOL Epspecially. Poor Janey, the most innocent remark and… *sigh*
😹😹😹😹😹😹
I haven’t time to read back but yesterday – naked men
today – nuts!
carry on!
Izzy, nuts is just the tip of the iceberg! We have candlemaking, Guantanamo, tutting at wilted kale, selfish walnut stealing OH’s, Tokyo’s return to work, and Janey’s affectionate pet name for her… er… food processor (I hope it’s her FP, anway!)
Banana custard FAIL! 😫😫😫
It’s gross..grey and eggy tasting, like a disgustingly flavoured soufflé
Ah well, on the plus side at least I won’t waste calories on sugar!
Oh no! Which one, the second one? Buggery. Another for ‘Well, That Didn’t Work – BSD recipes NOT to try, Volume 1’?
Definitely 😂
The ‘bread’ has been Deloreaned and is in the oven. If that turns into a loaf I will eat my low carb hat. Keep a page spare in the WTDW (Well That Didn’t Work) book. 30 mins to cook, 2 hours to cool in the tin before I’m allowed to try and prise it out 🙄
Good grief! 2 hours??? Pourquoi? What will happen if you take it out after, for example, an hour and a half? Keep us updated!
Ooo maybe it reforms itself in the tin, like an alien…
I’m going for a walk👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻😝 to get rid of sickness feeling from mouthful of eggy custard I ate and from two (small) pieces of dark chocolate I might have eaten🚶🚶🚶
That’s got to be at least an 8 mile walk to burn that little lot off, Epspecially. Is there no sporting event on tonight that you can feign interest in and watch instead? Curling? Darts? Greyhound racing?
Heee heee I was interested in the soccer!! The cheek. 😤😂
No, tonight I will be the athlete 🤓 will listen to a radio documentary as then don’t need a watch, just come home when it’s over 😂👏
Hehehehehe 😉
Very good. I wish I could go out and walk but nobody to go with and hubby wouldn’t let me go alone in the night time. Or the day time for that matter, after the last time when my ex-before-hubby accosted me and offered me a lift to where I was going. Thing is, I’d seen him go past me once, I’d recognised the numberplate, and he would have had to have made a circular drive of around 3 miles in order to be able to pass me in the same direction – again! Creepy much. I’ve got a treadmill but we have to put it up and sideways on as our house is small, and it’s a proper ballache dragging it out, it’s a proper full sized gym one. Looked online and brand new it cost something ridiculous like £1200. Selling on Facebook for £60. Hubby went to look at it. Alone. Took four adult men to get it in the house. We had to remove radiators, door knobs and actual doors to get it in. So a bargain but bloody hell… common sense has to dictate sometimes, right? People have to walk under and over it to get to the downstairs loo and fridge and freezers, can’t get anything bigger than a watering can in or out of the back door etc. We’d have to take it apart piece by piece if we ever needed to move it.
Hee hee wow serious bargain! Stick it up somewhere and get going – people can walk over it? Can it be put outside with a cover over it? 👏👏
You’ll have to recruit one of the childer as a walker buddy. I like evenings for walking, lots of lovely dogs out😀(Though I am seriously procrastinating here now, right, that’s it, gone!!)
Well it LOOKS OK in the tin. Smells ok too although not very Bready. 1 hour down, 1 to wait. At this rate I’ll have to take a slice to bed with me..
Yes, it’s kept ‘put up’ and it has to be turned sideways or it blocks all access, but when it’s up, it goes down (only just too!) the little corridor we have to our outhouses. So you walk out of the kitchen, duck under the… console, is that the word? onto the actual conveyor belt and then step off left to the loo or step off the end to get to the room with the fridge/freezer. It’s not easy being me. I think it would ruin outside. The only child that would go with me, has gone out somewhere. Plus I’m not talking to him at the moment because it appears that he’s failed his first year at Uni. Misunderstood the sentiment behind ‘Fresher’s Week’ and decided to have ‘Fresher’s Year’ instead. Apparently there was an ‘under 60% attendance rate’ in the mix too… Not a happy Mummy. Especially when at his age I was married and raising him, while all my peers were in Uni. I know you shouldn’t live through your kids but bloody hell, he’s been gifted my one true regret in life, handed to him on a plate, and he just fluffs it. Wooooooo off topic rant over. Sorry.
Enjoy your walk 🙂 x
Toast in the am, Janey?
i cant possibly reply to all i have missed!!! however i am intrigued on the bread front !! janey !
i have however been moved at work in a new area so at lunch today it was like a mobile phone gathering everyone had theres out and could get signal so on weds i shall not be so out of it !!!!! and ” brenda” will have returned to her thelma and louise !!!!!
also i shall be gearing myself up for thurs routine weigh day although may have a cheeky look tomorrow !!
working with lots of ladies today ” eating all healthy food” for lunch and i wanted to say nope thats not good neither is that but felt may become known as that ” Bloody Stupid Dieter”(see what i did there!!!! god i am good !!
i want to know janey was the food processor good ?
Yayyy fer lunchtime contact with Brenda!
Lol, Bloody Stupid Dieter! Did anyone comment on your weight loss? Yes, you’re right, probably best not to go all lunchbox police on their asses or you’ll make yourself unpopular, especially when your diet is working so well 😉 Just lead by example and remain constantly in a higher state of smugness 😉
no one said a thing only comment i got was i looked tired ?? do you think !! i had to sleep on sofa due to hubby snoring like a good one !!!!!
and its hard to tell i. our uniforms of scrubs !!! we all look like we have gone to the biggest pyjama party ever !!!!!!!
so i just sat quietly eating my salad thinking why are you not a chocolate chip cookie !!! oh why !!!
heres a question if you could have one bit of food that your ” not allowed” what do you think it would be ??
Peanut butter on toast
Tokyo ooo great question and and this minute ypu know what nothing really!! Loads of delicious stuff to eat. I guess maybe a lushious piece of chocolate cake or brownie but then I know that is feel instantly sick after it so what’s the point! Great about work and salad eating. Wouldn’t bother trying to convince any one what’s good or what’s not because people will be blue in the face defending their choices and whatever works for them is good for them I guess..
Listened to a documentary about people who write in a book to st Valentine in a church near us, some hilarious stories and one v sad one about a guy who writes to his wife who died b young. He seems to find it helps though he doesn’t even know why. This little church has bones of st Valentine in it so people write for love. And on that note good night everyone! Tomorrow is day 2 on the second leg, on we go 👏👏
Lucky I can imagine how frustrating that is about potential-walker-son, but lots of people do badly in first year and then get a bit of a shock and cop on. Hopefully it ll all work out. At least he’s sociable (!) and probably well adjusted as can make friends and enjoy himself? And isn’t miserable and lovely for a whole year. All guessings and probably don’t help but an attempt! 😘
Ok yes, I’d like peanut butter on toast alright…😹
Pizza, Dr Oetker Ristorante Speciale pizza. Nothing special, but I want it so much. I bought one two days before I started this diet. I cooked it for my son the other day. I’m surprised I had the restraint not to eat it, knowing it was there.
Epspecially, he’s so frustrating. He hasn’t looked for anywhere to live for next year, and I know he won’t want to live at home, just keeps saying ‘Oh, I need to check my emails’. So, if he gets back in that means ME running around like a blue assed fly trying to sort it for him. When we ask him what happens now he was saying he needed to wait until August to get his results. Well, of course hubby was seeing all friends and family posting ‘Well dones’ to their lot for passing first year on Facebook. So we make discreet enquiries, results are out now, and resits are in August, not results! He hasn’t done anything to sort his grant out, as hubby and I need to fill in the forms too, I had to keep him until November last year as he cocked his application up and didn’t have a bean to his name. Waiting now for ‘a letter’ from the Uni to see if he’ll be allowed back. He either doesn’t care, can’t be bothered or is lying to us and whichever it is, it’s aggravating me. If he even showed some remorse about it, but it’s just blank stares and silence and ‘I don’t know’ whenever we ask anything. Found him absolutely paralytic drunk last Friday morning, eight empty beer cans on the floor of his room, and a can – an open half full can – leaned between his sleeping body, and his plugged in laptop! He’d started drinking well after 11 when we’d gone to bed. I said to him, who the hell starts drinking at that time of night, on their own, at home, on a bloody Thursday? I asked him if this was the sort of thing he was doing in his halls? And he must have still been drinking up to about 6 am. It’s equally frustrating and frightening to be honest. He’s giving me a wide berth at the moment after I told him never to do that under my roof again or he’d be packed off to live with his father.
Oh dear Lucky, try not to strangle him (easier said than done, I’m sure). Can he retake the year?
Now, the bread. It’s actually not bad! Quite a dense texture but definitely more bread-like than cake. Released from its tin after 2 hours and tried with a scrape of butter…OH even approved (but then he loves walnuts). It’s more savoury than sweet but I’m not sure you could put marmite on it!
Won’t know until this mythical letter arrives Janey, and I tell you, nearly 21 or not, he’ll be opening it in my presence!
Brilliant news! Do you think it would toast? Make a sandwich?
Oo great about bread Success! 👏🏻
Hmm poor Lucky, it’s a tough life being a mammy I’d say! No kids myself, yet anyway so I know nothing clearly.
he sounds like he needs one of those bootcamps where they shout a lot. Or maybe the opposite, to do some humanitarian charity work for free or something! Hopefully something will resolve it soon.
Epspecially??? Bootcamp??? … Fantastic idea! Even if only as a threat. I’ll get some brochures. Hey, you don’t need to have kids to know what to do with the little sods 😉 You’ve been a kid once, right? There we are, that’s all the qualification anyone needs 🙂 I feel better today after venting so thank you.
I am also another two pounds down this morning, wooooooop! But this also takes into account the stray pound that went on over the weekend, so it’s one off my ‘grand total’ now 15 stone 11 lbs on the scale. 2 lbs away from my 2 stone, which if I don’t get in Week 5 (and I have until Saturday) then I should definitely have by week 6! 2 stone in 6 weeks is not to be sniffed at! If hubby has a loss this morning too, we’ll change the scales to kilos for a bit. Live dangerously…
Another 2 hours or so before anyone is up… bliss! So I’m going to make my shopping list and meal plan for the week! Every recipe that anyone posts on here that I like the look of I’ve been bookmarking (thankfully). I think it’s ‘bread’ that needs my attention this week; the pumpkin bread, the vegetable flatbreads. I like the chickpea wraps but only when they’re freshly made, I don’t find that they freeze brilliantly well and imo don’t taste as nice the next day, nor when cold, so I do need alternatives there, I also have other chickpea flatbread/wrap recipes too. Going to try Josie’s courgette base pizza this week too.
Onwards! 😀
morning look at me up early !!! why is that ?? when i could have a lie in no work today !! i wake up as if i am going to work !!! whats that all about !!
well done lucky that really is amazing weight loss !!
i had a ” cheeky weigh in” not my official one till thurs but since last thurs i am 0.7 of a kilo ( it doesnt sound much ) but when you convert it to pounds its 1.5 thats good and i have another couple of days to go till thurs !!!! as it stands this morning i am 1.5 off my first goal which will be a 6.5 loss!! but even now i just realised its a 5 kg loss !! yay me !!!
janey that bread looked good i need to get back on the trial of possible recipes !!!!we have done pastry we have done wraps even a cake there must be more out there i tell you !!!!
lucky so sorry bout your son but my son was a bit the same he did 4 years at uni and i had to keep prompting the form filling etc!!! but he got there in the end however he did come home to live once he finished at which point we thought he would never leave !!! however he now has his own flat good job nice car etc been gone 6 months and i miss him secretly ( even tho he lives not far from me !!!)
morning guys well done on that loss Tokyo! I’m up before 0600 on work days I’m not a morning person….
See courgette pizza base mentioned not sure what recipe you have in mind but a few of us like this one…
http://www.greenkitchenstories.com/green-pizza-with-a-cauliflower-base/
It’s a bit less fussy than some of them. I couldn’t be bothered straining it through a tea towel and many of the recipes do ask for that. Ignore the toppings and make up your own.
Lucky I think it might be a ‘son’ thing… My son who turns 4 in October, is refusing to poo on the toilet- great with his wee’s but poo too often just goes in his pants. It’s very tiresome. Yesterday he turned mute and refused to talk to the childminder – for the WHOLE day and when we took him home he just wouldn’t do anything he was told last night.
On a serious note, do you think he is scared to tell you the truth knowing you will be disappointed?
I have a friend with a daughter who did several years studying music with a view to becoming a teacher, before flunking the last year, missing exams, skipping classes. This caused huge upset for her parents of course but ultimately for several years she just stuck to being a waitress. Last year she grew up and realised her missed opportunity I think, and is now training as a nursery nurse and doing well. Some take longer to grow up than others is all I’m saying. If he drops out of uni – he still has a future, it’s up to him to choose it, and make it. You’ve done your job and I’m sure you will support him if he tries to do something positive wether that is now or in the future. If he does go back for his 2nd year hopefully he will realise that the approach he chose in year 1 doesn’t work!
I know it sounds flowery but I’d try to make it ‘safe’ for him to confess. Tell him you can tell something has gone wrong, and if he will only let you in on the details that maybe you can help him. Does he think he made the wrong choice? was he struggling with the course and didn’t ask for help? did he think his natural talent would see him thru? Does he actually want to continue? would he prefer to get a job? those kinds of questions.
Morning Tokyo! I’m always up at stupid o clock too, after having three children in four years, it’s a hard habit to break. Irony is now that you can’t drag them out of bed. If I sleep until half seven I consider that a lie in, how sad is that??
Well done on your unofficial weigh in, it’s a brilliant loss in under a week! I like the idea of kilos now at the moment because my scales are pretty basic. It’s a pound or nothing. I may be a quarter of a pound, half a pound, three quarters of a pound down, but my scales won’t show that until I lose the full pound. I’m figuring because kilos weigh in increments of 0.1, that I’ll see a shift more often. So instead of being cross that I’m ‘x’ weight for the fourth day running, I’ll be able to see that I’ve lost 0.3 kg as an example, and know that I’m so close to another pound off. Hope my rambly explanation to my amateur psychology makes sense! It does to me anyway haha.
The bread did look tasty, didn’t it? Oh, there’s so much more we haven’t touched on yet, Tokyo, we’ve barely scraped the surface. I never knew there was all this info online about this way of eating (or ways of eating we can adapt to the BSD) – but then, I was never looking for it before.
Glad your son got his act together. I won’t hold my breath on mine though. It’s just that he had to push so hard to get there, he did terribly in his AS, which had a knock on effect on his A Level results as he dropped one subject too. He didn’t have good enough results to go to Uni with his friends, plus add to the fact that he’s one of the oldest in his school year, so he was already like 2 years behind there. He did a year in college to get enough points to get on this course. He’s probably going to have to retake this year – if they have him back! So, you’re talking him being nearly 24 when he graduates. Three years behind his friends. I know it’s not the end of the world and people go to Uni at all ages but still. He needs to grow up and show some responsibility.
am afraid i am a bit fed up with cauliflower recipes !! as lovely as you are cauliflower i feel i have eaten you in as many ways as is possible !!! time for something new
i feel for me to go from a carb loving chocolate munching savory scrumping diet to this low carb diet i have to have something a little bit ” normal” as i would call it otherwise i know eventually i would fall of the wagon
i cant be saintly all of the time and if my bit of naughtiness contains good ingredients that are better for me then all the better but i need that bit of naughtiness !!! and cauliflower isnt it i am afraid !!!
go kg is what i say !! thats why i like it because of the 0.1 etc i get that result then convert it to pounds like you say helps rather than sticking at one number !!
