Add me, add me! I want a Twitter friend in case we get excommunicated from BSD for being subversive or mentioning meat knots!!
Collie – way to go girl! I’m like you, mainly following med diet now rather than counting, but with a restrictive day here and there. The weight is still coming off slowly but surely! Good luck with that bike ride in Malawi. I have a bike that I bought secondhand, with the intention of exercising more. Rode it once, now its got a flat tyre.. so obviously it’s now relegated to the shed 🙁 Maybe I should try and sort that for the summer?
Life without cravings and control by biscuits and cakes is so nice, I agree! We used to cane the biscuit barrel in the office but I have not had a single one since I started this journey 9 weeks ago. The guys I work with are inadvertently being healthier because they don’t eat so many biccies and cakes now I’m not ‘enabling’ them! My boss tried to persuade me that a Rich Tea wouldn’t really harm the other day, but I did inform him (in quite uncertain terms) that it was a BISCUIT not a VEGETABLE!!
Lucky – I think the coconut sugar can overpower recipes, especially as almond/coconut flour is already slightly sweet. For my next batch of cookies I’m going to halve the quantity and see what happens. And I don’t add salt to sweet stuff.. what nonsense!
Pub with the guys at lunchtime today. Used to be a regular thing but again I’ve shied away from it for the last 9 weeks. I shall head for the salads and soda water probably though!

Hi Janey
Love the fact you told your boss off , made me chuckle. We are givien 2-3 boxes of chocs a day!!! I know them all could recite the menu’s inside!! Please don’t read this and think I am pure I have serious hunger pangs at times , usually dehydrated related, but every so often am really hungry then I just have a bigger portion. In the past would have stopped at every little helps supermarket (other supermarkets are available) and bought Norty snacks mainly crisps and chocolate , on top of what had been scoffed at work.
Yay get back on that bike I am no racing snake just a large lady in dayglo riding around Surrey!! I just pedal try not to set targets as they stress me , when I see a hill low er the gears and just think keep pedals going. I am going alone to Malawi and do not know anyone on the group so quite anxious they will all be skinny young things ‘saying lets sprint up this hill ha’ yes I always catastophize things. But I am going to do it , will try to get as ready as I can, definitely out of my comfort zone.
Have a great day 🐾🐾🙋🏻 -
2 – 3 boxes of chocs a day??!! 3 months ago I would’ve forwarded my CV to you!!!!!
Dehydration is a major factor in controlling the hunger pangs (which are usually thirst!). I get through a lot of sparkling water, both in the office and at home. Occasional glass of red in the evening but a lot of the time I don’t even finish it.. OH keeps getting my leftovers!
I am so impressed that you are (to quote a major sportswear brand) ‘Just Doing It’ for the Malawi trip.. so cool! Are you fundraising for charity or is this a personal goal? I had to smile at the dayglo lady cyclist comment.. we do paint ourselves in such terrible lights at times! As per a quote I saw online.. ‘she might be going slowly but she’s going faster than you sitting on the sofa reading this’!!
-

just returned from attempting to PYO strawberries to find all the strawberries were rubbish so that was a pointless trip !!!
afternoon with feet up i think after making some infamous wraps to have with spiced minced lamb and salad -
I found you! But it was a roundabout way, you didn’t show up as having added me. Weird. Never mind!
Just been shopping again with inlaws, and successfully talked them down from going for fish and chips. They’re going off to a local expensive department store thingy in a bit, but I’m stopping in to wait for the children from school. Tonight is the chickpea pastry minced beef and onion pie with assorted vegetables. I froze the other one. Couldn’t find turnips at the local market, everything but. But! I managed to get a Collins Calorie Counter book from a charity shop, for 50p! Bargain! Handy to have in the handbag, or when I’m camping and don’t have internet access.
Nothing much else to report, I could sleep for a week.
-
i saw your pie it looked delish !! what was the recipe for the pastry ?
whilst i was out i bought two tiny pie dishes so ideal for small sheps pie or pie !!!!!
no idea why it didnt show i followed you i clicked on the button !! never really used twitter been a facebooker until recently and just got fed up with it so came off so at min a twitter virgin but glad i have a back up in case of bsd meltdown like last night !!!!
i saw roast swede the other day which i quite like the sound of and phil vickery just cooked a roast cauliflower with a spicy yoghurt topping which didnt look half bad !!!! -
Pastry was
1 1⁄2 cups besan flour
1 teaspoon salt
1⁄4 cup olive oil
1⁄2 cup cold water (up to 1/2 cup)That’s the official measurement. From what I remember, I think the flour worked out just under 100g, maybe 90g. I personally found the little bit of pastry I tried was quite salty and yet I didn’t use a full teaspoon, so next time I’d use half a teaspoon of salt, you can always salt your food after, can’t you? I used 60 ml of olive oil, and I filled one of those 1/2 cup measures half way and that was ample water to bring it together. All in a food processor. I’m looking forward to it, and so is my husband, bless him. Think it’s the longest he’s been without pastry since he was weaned 53 years ago 😀
Facebook was getting beyond a joke for me. I hated it, but I was addicted to it, and people used to really get me down on it, some of the stuff people were sharing and spouting, so I put quitting Facebook on my ’40 before 40′ list and I came off it 4th November last year. Been back on for one night only, just to wish people I wasn’t in touch with any other way a Happy Christmas. Don’t miss it at all now. Hubby is always on it, but most of his family and friends are back in Wigan so I don’t mind so much.
Ooooh roast swede, never had that. My favourite cheat way of cooking swede is in a microwave, because I hate peeling the buggers. And it seems to taste nicer too, just scoop out all the flesh. I’ve seen roast cauli a lot lately on the internet and in recipe magazines, I might give that a try one day. Hungry now 🙁
-
I am still addicted to Facebook…. I hate it but can’t leave 🙁 Well, I can, but I’m frightened of missing out on something! Nonetheless it drives em to distraction some evenings when we are all sitting there on the sofa, engrossed in our smart phones…
You can microwave a WHOLE swede in a microwave???? Is that safe?? I have visions of exploding root vegetables blowing the doors off the oven!! 😮
My bread tin is supposed to be delivered today.. so maybe ‘bread’ making is in the offing this weekend. I also.. wait for it… ordered a food processor!! I’m fed up of picking gloop out of mixers with my fingers and it was an Ebay bargain.. turns up on Monday!
-
Yes, you can microwave a whole swede, a handy hint I picked up from a Facebook page. Keep an eye on it and it starts ‘singing’ when it’s ready. Not like, arias or anything, more like a squeaky high pitched hissy whine.
I’ve got two food processors, an old one that the jug is broken and you have to use a knife to switch the latch thing on. It’s a disgrace. And it gets used often. And another one that’s nice, new, clean, in working order, and I just look at it.
I have coveted a breadmaker for years… pfffffffft. Should have run with that one when I had the chance. And a soupmaker. Don’t know why. Just… haven’t got one. To add to my cupboard of useless kitchen appliances I’ve used once and never again. Piemaker. Airfryer. Bullet thingy.
-
the vision of exploding swede reminds me of the gremlins film !!
be interested on the bread front although me and the hubby said last night not really missing it !!
afraid i agree with lucky on the old facebook i just got so fed up of people and it was easier to not use it !! cant say i miss it really and am drained after my twitter trauma !! but now at least i know theres no escaping ladies you cannot hide ha ha ha ha ( evil laugh!)
everyones qeuiet today ?? is it that friday afternoon feeling ?
i bet lucky is having her cinderella moment !!! i have made the wrap batter for tea added dried mint to it as having lamb with spices( did you see what i did there lamb and mint ?! god I am so witty!!) its the lamb recipe from last weeks epic faffing persian lamb and aubergine but i have took all the faffing out of it !!!!! -
my god thats another book
” photos of forgotten kitchen appliances”
to go with
” useless foods that time forgot in a cupboard”!! -
I look forward to reports on faff-free lamb!
I suspect the food processor may ultimately gather dust but at half price I’ll give it a go. I DO own a breadmaker and used it for ALL bread for 2+ years.. can you now see why my weight crept up! Loaves were too delicious to leave.. and you could make chocolate bread in it! Now I break it out once a year to make jam (most of which goes wrong or goes mouldy in the cupboard).
Isn’t a soup maker just a pot??? and a bullet???? Ummm… that’s something else in my book!!!! 😉 The list of pointless kitchen gadgets is probably as long as the list of ingredients we will never use. Soup maker = preserved lemons!
Lucky – have you started trying smaller clothes on yet? Come on, we need to know!
Pub lunch went ok – I had steak with salad. They initially brought it out with chips and peas but I pointed out I had ordered the ‘light option’ so they took it back to the kitchen and scraped it off onto a plate of frozen lettuce!!
-
get us being all assertive when eating out !!!
i too have a food processor afraid mines still as new as when i bought it a year ago and sits at the bottom of a cupboard !!!!
i think luckys having her cinderella moment !!
the lamb mince was lovely so i think without the faff and a side salad and wraps we could be on to a winner !! -
Hahaha a bullet thingy, like you can do smoothies and grind nuts in them and things.
Jam in a breadmaker???? Que?
Well, I tried on never before fit into jeans, which I’ve ascertained say size 20 but they are no way size 20, they are an 18. I could pull them up. Still a long, long way off, but they are there, ready for me. I tried on size 22 trousers, cropped ones, and they fit. You’d think this wouldn’t be exciting particularly, size 22 and all that, but they are non elasticated, no stretch at all. I fit into a size 20 pair of black trousers, but I had muffin overhang, so I need to lose another few pounds before I get into them. That’s as far as I got this morning before I had to leave. Butterfly dress on tomorrow and take another picture of me in it. See how/if anything changed in a fortnight.
Good call on the mint wraps with the lamb.
It is quiet. My inlaws have just left and I’m feeling very tired and very meh today. Not my usual bouncy self at all. Not ready for the weekend at all. But I’m ready for my pie 🙂
-
i await pie report later just think how bouncy you will feel after tomorrows weigh in ( it is tomorrow isn’t it ?)
-
Hmm, we may need to trawl through the previous 524 posts (524??????) to see if the PMT fairy is also stalking you, Lucky. I am feeling less homicidal today but am not relishing a weekend full of fighting kids. I have already informed respective fathers of the far flung family unit that they need to be taking them away from me for a large part of tomorrow. We will see how that goes down..
Well done on the clothes trial! They’re definitely getting closer to fitting! This time next month you’ll deffo be in the black trousers 😉
Jam in a bread maker is a revelation. You should put all the basics in and go away for an hour while it does its stuff! I like a firm jam (ooh er) so I add more pectin, so I need to get to it before it cools down too much or you can’t get the stuff into jars! Mind you, approach it too soon and its like fruit napalm…
BBQ tomorrow with friends. I shall avoid bread, although I may take Timmy’s idea of making a few of our Lucky wraps for my sausages. Wine will flow but I shall endeavour to drink far less than historically has been the case! Wondering if I can make a dessert rather than letting my mate bring sugar laden garbage with her..
-
Pie should be ok – fingers crossed, because the filling was bob on and the little broken overlap of pastry was nice, if a tad salty, just have to remember not to salt my meal. Yes, it’s tomorrow, the start of week 5 for me! I can’t grumble at all even if I’m no lighter by tomorrow, 25 lbs and hubby 17 lbs, that’s exactly 3 stone between us in four weeks. I’m looking forward to the next four weeks so much, but I do need to be better organised. This week has shown me just how much, just having people around was a nightmare, I was a horrible host because I didn’t have things in. I’m shopping every couple of days as opposed to doing a big shop so things don’t go off.
-
It could be PMT, but I think it’s a tad early for me. Just tired after this week’s traipsing. And instead of being able to relax this weekend, I now have to catch up on all the housework I didn’t do this weekend. With bickering children. All my children dislike ach other, it’s soul destroying.
Sausage wraps are the business. Is it just me though, or do you find the wraps are nicer ‘fresh’? I haven’t had much success with freezing them and I don’t enjoy them so much cold.
You could make a dessert, if you thought you were going to be tempted by whatever else is on offer? If not, and you’re having food and wine, you might not even want it.
-
janey- what about some chickpea flour cake sure theres a recipe out in the chickpea recipe universe or a cheese cake of some description i am sure i have seen a key lime pie in the recipes on here
lucky – you have done so well and kept us smiling too !!
a pie for tea who would have thought it !!! and hurrah on clothes we have all had our cinderella moment this week !! -
I know Tokyo, who’d have thought indeed. Pastry on the BSD! Thank you 🙂
I’ve got many, many more Cinderella moments to come, in many different sizes too 🙂
-
I’ve not even thought about my tops yet!
-
Tops are quicker to start fitting!
My loaf tin has arrived….
-
I’ll have a root tomorrow then 🙂
Ooooooooooh are you baking something tonight?
Pie meal was a bit of a revelation… it was only a small piece of pie, some mashed cauli, some steam veg and some mushy peas. I tucked into my veg first (habit, because I love veg) and… I left about a quarter of a piece of pie and a load of veg. Not because it wasn’t nice, but because I was done. Hubby ate his pie and peas and left most of the other veg. Both stuffed. I need to stop filling our plates like how we used to eat, because even though we’ d had very little to eat all day, and in the past we’d be starving and clear it, we just didn’t want it now, I couldn’t think about eating another mouthful. My stomach must be the size of a chickpea or something 😉
-
Good luck with the bbq Janey, loads of yum stuff to eat from there, wonder could you bring some mushrooms and peppers on sticks with pork or something delicious on them too? Though if someone else’s bbq that mightn’t be possible-enjoy it anyway!
Lucky pie sounds delicious – wish I was a husband whose wife made me tasty and healthy meals!!😹 Just had baked salmon and threw in fennel which I found at back of fridge and some spring onion, and lime juice and it was actually pretty nice! Forgot how nice salmon is baked. Definitely full now tho as usual still dreaming of chocolate😜 Will have done herbal tea…
-
https://www.thehealthychef.com/2014/06/paleo-pumpkin-bread-2/
Thinking of making this though using butternut squash and no honey. Know it’s not under the ground veg but mightn’t be too bad for just a slice, will have to check
-
Awwww lol – I’m not always this good, you know! I’m a bit of a pastry fiend myself, so there was a slight selfishness in my actions 😉 Salmon sounds nice though, I haven’t had salmon for years, the hubby isn’t keen but he will eat it at a push. Used to do it in soy, ginger, garlic, chilli flakes, lime juice and spring onion, in little parcels in the oven. I’m not eating enough fish, I know that. I really need to get my act together in the next couple of weeks. The children will be finished at school and I will be tearing my hair out and eyeing up pizza.
Oh! I had my favourite pizza in the freezer. And to be honest, I’d planned on ‘treating myself’ with it, probably after my first week’s weigh in, but after losing a stone in the first week, I couldn’t bring myself to do it. It’d keep for another week, I decided. And another. And another… It’s been calling me on occasion, bread, pasta, rice, potatoes, crisps… not bothered. But this bloody pizza! So, tonight, I cooked it for my son who is home from Uni. It’s gone now 🙂 So I know I can’t lose the plot and go and cook it if I’m having a bad day 😀 I nearly cried cutting it up though, I won’t lie.
*Toddles off to hunt down the chickpea flour pizza base…*
-
Oh Epspecially, how good does that look?
-
Janey, how about you try out your new pan with that??? (And send me some next day delivery)
-
That loaf looks good.. Although grating squash?? Really??? I’d better do that before I have my nails done tomoz!!
I feel I should bake something now…
-
Buy butternut squash courgetti. Snip into tiny pieces. You’re welcome.
-
Not courgetti, but you know what I mean. I posted this once and it wouldn’t let me.
-
GENIUS. You’re wasted on here..
-
I know. It’s a cross I have to bear though, because I’m simply having too much fun!
-
http://freshplanetflavor.com/easy-chocolate-strawberry-cake/
THIS. for dessert tomorrow at the BBQ.
-
Hee hee Janey wouldn’t bother grating, just stick in blender/mixer thing. Or noodles would be even better!
Yum those fish parcels sound great. Tell the husband he can have that or pizza😜😜
Pizza is a funny one, it always smells delicious but never tastes as good as it smells and always makes me feel sick afterwards so ditching it has been easy. I guess I more of a sweet lover
-
And then they give me a cake recipe! 😳💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽 Damn that looks good
-
That looks amazing too, any you’d never think it was a cake tailored to a specific diet, would you?
-
Yes Epspecially! Janey, you can grate things with your food processor, it will have an attachment!
-
I must wait until Monday for my attachments 😩
-
Actually, come on team, I need an alternative to the icing/cream. Yoghurt with honey? Soft cheese?
-
Oh thank God. I didn’t want to pee on your parade or ruin your enjoyment of the cake, but I didn’t like the look of the ingredients in the frosting. Hmmmm…
