Hi 👋,
I’ve been a type 2 diabetic for over a year and been in denial for most of it. Lockdown has contributed to weight gain and uncontrolled blood sugars. I need to sort myself out and stared the blood sugar diet on Tue (woo day 3 today). Are eggs ok to eat everyday and how much carb should I be aiming for? Thanks you 😊

Hi Hanna and welcome. Sorry to hear about your situation. Would suggest keeping your menus varied …. better option than relying on eggs everyday.
The level if carbs is not set in stone and it’s not the same for everyone. However, I believe most people with T2 keep carbs under 50g and some who are very insulin resistant below 20g. Really what you need to do is try at around 50g and see how you go, with a view to adjusting downwards if necessary.

Best wishes ….

Thanks Sunny,
I tried to keep to the under 50g for the first few days but am struggling. I’ve cut out refined sugar so no bread, biscuits, cakes etc but have increased the fruit- however one pear contains 27g of carb 😱!
I’ve also joined the weekly forum so hopefully can stay motivated!Best wishes,

Hi Hanna, yes 50g is about the best I can do too. Fruit is a real problem, try to stick to berries, I always have frozen raspberries in my freezer. Can I say that 50g daily carbs can still make a big difference to your blood numbers but 20g can totally wipe out that diabetes. Although not for everyone, I have great numbers now but still need medication and insulin, so I am still diabetic others on here have reversed their diabetes diagnoses. Try to stick as closely as you can to low carb just dont give up.

Thanks sunshine-girl,
I don’t think I could cut down further tbh. After reading the 8 week blood sugar diet I was convinced that I could reverse it. I think genetics is a strong component though. I’m from a south Asian background with diabetes prevalent on both sides of the family. I’ve done a week and I feel better- Eid day was tough as it’s traditionally carb heavy but I resisted and had a poached egg instead 😊. The berries are a good shout which I’ll do thanks and will try to limit my pears!
Thanks,
Hanna
