Well done Angiebabe that is some serious weight loss hopefully I will be following in your footsteps. Fully agree with what you are saying I will just have to have patience when the weight slows down in the knowledge that it will keep coming off regardless of how quickly I would like it to move. It helps me reading blogs about all the awesome weight losses that everyone and I mean everyone is losing. So many times at ww Sw it seemed the same old people could do it where I always seemed to struggle this is definitely my time ⭐️

Wendy Sorry – bit late. With excess egg whites I make savoury meringues. Beat them up till they’re creamy and white. I then add a teaspoon full of milled flax and spice of choice (chilli, cumin, garam masala all work) or even harissa. then beat to stiff peaks. Place in tablespoon size lumps and cook in a cool oven until they firm to crisp on the outside. They go great with steak or even as a side dish with curries, chilis etc.

Thank you for the egg white suggestion JulesMaigret that sounds wonderful for next time! We unfortunately have just eaten an OK spinach omelette made with five egg whites & one whole egg with some spring onions added that wasn’t very filling because we shared it😀
Next time we have the carbonara recipe that uses egg yolk I will make your savoury meringue!

    Hello again everyone.
    Loved reading all the posts.
Congratulations to everyone for your hard work and efforts.
We must remind ourselves that from little acorns, great oak trees are born.
In other words, a day at a time.
I am saying that to motivate myself.
I have been away for 2 days with 56 7/8 year olds.
We ziplined, went ape, danced sang, ran, played golf, archery etc.
We ate pasta, burgers, chips, pizzas, chocolate, sándwiches, ice creams, fried chicken and milky coffees.
In short, I parked the diet for 2 days and thoroughly enjoyed the break!!
Today I am doing a fast 2 day to bring myself back on track and will resume the diet again tomorrow.
It’s a hard day today but necessary.
Well done everyone, we will get there in the end. We just need to be patient and consistent.
    Cheers and hugs to all.

    Another week down everyone–woohoo!!!

Lost 15 pounds total and 3″ in my belly roll since last week. Nothing from my waist or hips, but .5″ off my thighs. I’m sorry I didn’t take measurements on the day I started. My pants are getting loose so I’m so happy. And I have more options in tops since I’m not limited to the longest ones I own.

Just finished a he!! week at work–long hours so less sleep. Managed to stay pretty close to 800 calories most of the week. And I’m happy to say that even though there were big boxes of donuts, brownies and cookies everywhere yesterday, I did not cave. I consider donuts the perfect food, pure sugar and fat 🙂 so I was proud of myself.

And you all–I’m very proud of you too, from nonrolling knickers to falling shorts–we are amazing! Reading your posts throughout the week encourages me and gives me ideas. I feel a true kinship with you all.

To those of you getting discouraged, this is usually the point on an old diet when I say it’s not fair, I’m not eating 1/3 of what I was eating so I should be losing more, but I don’t feel that way this time. I feel good, not deprived–I figure in a dark chocolate square into my calorie count and that satisfies me. I have energy again despite much less sleep this week. I can’t give up–I still have too much more weight to lose, but everyday is a new chance so look forward. Try to focus on the good of this even though your head is telling you otherwise.

I also got back on my rebounder and Healthrider this past week. There is exercise equipment at work, but not enough time to use it on those busy weeks. So back to that next week.

Onward to week 3–good luck to us all and keep up the good work!

Thank you to Bissell and AngieBabe: it’s really, really good – and deeply reassuring – to hear from other people further down the line who tell me that it does get easier with time and to hang on in there. I promised myself I would see out this eight weeks without quitting (as usual) and while we’re only 25% though (hurrah – didn’t realise that until I wrote it) I do see good physical things happening for sure. What I’m struggling with for sure are ingrained emotional responses in the way I use food (carbs, principally) as a crutch rather than real physiological need. That will take more time to resolve I can now see. I’m journaling them here daily partly to acknowledge these feelings and move on from them, and partly in the hope that maybe it helps someone else know they are not alone in a similar struggle with their own head. I am determined for things to be different this time. Thank you again you two. Week three: vamos, bring it ON!

Hi guys, hope you don’t mind me butting in. I was particularly moved by Carb Addict’s post about it all seeming a bit overwhelming and about overthinking things. I know you’ve had a big drop since, Carb Addict, so maybe you’re finding it all more manageable, but I thought I’d mention something that set me back mentally.
I started posting on the what’s your mini-goal thread, and to be honest, it was a mistake for me. I set myself a target of reaching such and such a weight by such and such a date. And while that might work for some people, it doesn’t for me. Even though the target was ‘only’ a couple of kilos or so, it became impossible for me to conceive of. And the date looming up made me feel the way I used to when exams were approaching at school.
I’ve now moved to a one-day-at-a-time approach. This keeps me focused, and not too worried when I don’t see significant moves towards a bigger goal. My end goal is huge and months away, but I’m trying not to think about it too much to stop it overwhelming me. I don’t even mind too much, now, if I seem to stop losing or if I lose only very little. After all, today is another day and I might be able to do something that will make a difference to what the scales say tomorrow.

Anyway, sorry if this all seems absurd. Good luck everyone.

Congratulations to everyone on this weeks weight loss. I love reading the posts. Well for me I haven’t lost any weight this week 🙁 I went to visit my GP for a medication review and he took me off 3 of my 4 gliclazide a day and my water tablet. I am puffed up like a balloon as we speak, so I think I will be giving him a call on Monday to reinstate the water tablet. Well although no weight loss I have lost another inch off my waist so that is 2 1/2 in 2 weeks but the biggest movement for me is my fasting blood sugars. 17.3 to 7.8 this morning and my evening readings are 5.4 to 5.7. My GP said I am his miracle patient as he wanted me to start on insulin.
Despite no weight loss I am loving the food and not feeling to bad about it all, I am sure it will start to move again, as I now have energy and can get around better. Onwards and downwards everyone. Good Luck for week 3 🙂

Hi All, I’m starting tomorrow and would love to join and share progress. I went shopping today and am still reading through the book. I realise I’ll do better with a slow cooker, because I work long hours and will do much better with a meal ready when I get home. Off to buy one tomorrow. Feeling very motivated by your comments and experiences so far. I have a couple of events and a trip at the end of November which are a goal, but I think I’ll do 8 weeks then switch to 5:2 or Med plan. I have 3 stone to lose and am 47 years old. The weight hit just after I turned 40 – before that I lived on the Mediterranean coast and had an active job. I haven’t managed to stick to a healthy eating plan for more than 2 weeks since. I realise it must be partly psychological – change of location, a more stressful job and caring for my parents – but I’m in a good place overall right now to commit and am actually looking forward to a disciplined eating plan.
Best of luck to you all x

    Hello fellow BSDers!

Sorry about being AWOL for a week. Between Thanksgiving and work it’s been too crazy, I haven’t even been able to get on here to read your posts! I’ve caught up now though!

I was soooo good last weekend, but went completely off the rails on Tuesday. I had, what I call, a food black-out. It’s like an out of body experience, I see myself buying the crap, I see myself eating the crap, but I don’t realize that I am doing it until it’s too late. Seriously. I ate four chocolate bars, two donuts, 4 cookies, two Lindt balls, and a fully loaded Gyro pita. When I go, I go hard.

There was a difference this time though. I went back on the BSD, immediately. I didn’t compound the problem by saying “well this day is a loss, I will start again tomorrow” and then tomorrow never comes. I started over the moment I realized what I had done. The rest of the cookies and the remainder of the Lindt went to the department beside my office – they were gone in minutes.

So I am back on track. It was a momentary blip and I’m sure I will continue to struggle with this, but I now know that I can get past it. Onwards and Downwards! Weight-in is tomorrow, I know there will be some damage, but I’m okay with accepting the consequences of my actions.

Shalimar & a new me – Glad to have other Canucks on here! Hope you and your families had a great Thanksgiving.

Congrats all on your losses and victories! I love the fact we can share in the struggle and lift each other when needed. It’s a rare thing that I truly appreciate! Thank you all for your support and non-judgement!

Remember – Every minute is a new opportunity to start again.

    Cheers,

    Deb

Snoop I think you are spot on! Although things are ok at the moment I feel a bit like an alcoholic taking one day at a time, I can’t make bigger promises to myself than that. Of course I hope I reach my long term goal but it is huge and for that reason and the 30 years of failed dieting have taught me there are no guarantees. But the BSD is the only diet that seems to have ever offered a real possibility. My biggest fear will be keeping the losses off. I haven’t been a normal weight for so long I can’t even envision it. But today all is well.

So chin up chickens and breathe xxxxx

To be honest I can’t live with time limits on mini-goals either. They are achieved when they are achieved, and not there to cause extra stress. I just like to cheer myself every now and then when crossing one of the little milestones on this extended journey of mine. I tracked them even before I joined this forum, just to award myself treats when hitting one. I have really just one time related goal, which is that I want to be the same weight I was when I got married by my 25th wedding anniversary next year. Slightly less than one and a half stone to go, and six months to do it in.

Daily weight-in: 100g down overnight. Small but a loss is loss. What’s amazing to me is the difference around my middle – I have substantially deflated. Amazing how you can be medically obese on paper and yet feel ‘skinny’. (Far from rushing out to buy a crop top yet though, lol.) I recognise a need to let go of the time pressure I have put myself to get to goal: feeling more calm/accepting about this today.

Thinking about buying a slow cooker. Any thoughts? I don’t eat meat but there seems to be a few low-carb vegan options you can whizz up in one.

Angiebabe: you are right. Everything you said I resonate with. It IS an addiction issue: at least mentally if not physically.

Have a good day everyone and stay away from Lindt balls!!!!!!!

Hi, Carb Addict – I have a small slow cooker and I did a lentil curry in it yesterday and it was brilliant. Going to investigate doing more in it as it means I only have to do prep in the morning and the meal is ready in the evening. I would recommend one if you are working late as some recipes can be done very easily and simply in less than 15 mins and then the cooker does the rest.

    Hi ,

I love my slow cooker and used it often even before I started this diet. I am a meat eater and some times use it just to roast a joint of beef or chicken while I am out all day. If you search the internet you will find lots of ideas on freezer slow cooker meals…meaning you do all the chopping and prep, make a sauce , bag it and freeze it. This means less food waste as you freeze most of what you buy as a recipe. I love it because I always have ready to go meals in my freezer. I defrost overnight, pop in my slow cooker in morning and when I get home my dinner is done.

Which I believe is a great milestone!, hopefully you agree. So back on it today! And as to the future I know that swapping to 5-2 helps to keep the weight off. Good luck folks 👍

We also had an over calorie day yesterday by about 150 because of bad planning! I had bought pulled pork meat to roast for supper from M & S that was way over calories because of the fat in it but hadn’t looked at the calories when buying it😳 We ate it with steamed green beans & carrots so not too bad carb wise & I did pull off any extra fat I saw before serving it. Lesson learnt not all meat will fit into 800 calories if you also eat slightly extra at lunch as well, my stupid egg white omelette that worked out to be also higher calorie than I had anticipated!
Well a safer roast chicken today with roast cauliflower & ratatouille for lunch & houmous with celery, carrot & red pepper crudités for supper.
It is our day 14 weigh in tomorrow & my husbands bloods are stable staying around 5/6 so fingers crossed!
Congratulations on all of you for sticking with it👍👍👍

Thanks to all for your support! I hear you about the Balls We Shall Not Mention, Just be glad you don’t have a store right below your office (that also makes shakes and hot chocolate).

Yesterday I went into the city and met friends for dinner and a Zombie movie (The Rezort – REALLY fun, like Jurassic Park w/Zombies) and stuck to the diet, although I don’t think I got enough water in.

Weigh-in today… Down 3.6lbs! So happy that Tuesday didn’t mess me up as much as it could have!

    MASSIVE NSV (non scale victory)

I HAD 50% off coupons to my favourite plus sized clothing store that were expiring today, so I dragged Dad to the mall (he walked whilst I shopped) and spent over an hour trying on tops.

The tops I usually wear to work are getting a bit baggy, the bottoms are still fine, as they were tight before.

I’m usually a 2/3 in their sizing system. I walked out with leggings (sized 0), two tank tops (sized 1), a blouse (0), and a new bra (1)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The blouse fits a little tight, but I’m hoping it will fit better by the end of next week 😏

The numbers are nice, but I have to say that the most pleasant surprise was when I turned sideways in a (too) tight sweater. My stomach has definitely gone down, a lot. I carry ALL my weight in my stomach, so this was a really unexpected surprise (my GP says I am a skinny girl from the waist down and boobs up, lol). When I buy “skinny” jeans they look like regular ones on me because I have to fit for my stomach.

So it was a nice day 😄

I boiling some eggs for my salad lunches next week, and I have prochutto wrapped chicken in the oven for dinners, now onto cutting up my peppers and then prep for next week will be done.

    Make it a great one!

    Cheers,

    Deb

    Hi everyone,

Its lovely to read all of your results, I am having such a down day today, weighed myself Saturday and lost 1.5 lbs (I know its not a lot but its down ) was really good over the weekend and stuck to the plan, except one glass of shiraz on Saturday night, seeing as I used to drink two glasses most nights, an improvement. Ate to the plan Saturday night and even went to my sons housewarming party breakfast on Sunday, (I know odd but we have two grandchildren of two years – born within two weeks of each other) and he decided he would do a brunch, everyone around me stuffing sausage butties, coffee and tea, then pastries and fruit salad, I had one sausage, and the tiniest bowl of fruit salad ever – no bread – no pastries – my husband cooked a curry in the evening which I ate a cup of – no rice – no wine. And guess what I put on 2 lbs this morning!!!!!!!!!! I had swum masses of lengths in the pool at his complex, played mad games with the children and walked and walked that day. Sorry I sound so fed up and sorry for myself, I only want to lose the weight it doesn’t matter if its slowly but I want to lose it, I know I have dieted my whole adult life and I have a thyroid problem but give me a break – sorry rant over.

Whoop whoop. I decided not to weigh today but try on clothes. Am sat here in a pair of denim shorts bought two years ago with button up the front fastening. Worn once about a year ago and nearly cut myself in two. I fastened waist and other buttons WITH NO PROBLEMS! Am sat in them and yes they are a tad snug but my word what a change in my shape. I have also tried on and fastened and sat down in and will wear all day, a pair of size 16 cords! What I have noticed is that my muffin top has considerably melted away and my thighs are definitely thinner. What is so wonderful is that this has happened in 2 weeks. I am aware it will slow down but still I don’t care. The fact I can get in my cords is so wonderful. Onwards and downwards everyone. Beijinhos from Portugal.

Hey Pat C – don’t be down. All the exercise may mean that you have built up some water retention as our bodies do that in order to heal little tears in our muscles when we do lots of exercise that we’re maybe not used to. If that’s the case then drink lots of water, wait a couple of days and you should be fine. It’s happened to me on more than one occasion – it’s really disheartening but there’s normally a reason. In addition you might want to up your fat intake that may also help. I sounds like you didn’t eat very much on Sunday 🙂

Hi PatC. I’m just starting week 11 and the scales show me plateauing for a week, yet I’ve lost 1.5 inches off my waist over that period. I put it down to the body reconfiguring itself. I’ve increased the amount of exercise I’m doing and I reckon the body is storing water in muscles to respond. The four litres of water a day give it some leeway. My weight loos gain cycle has been fast/slow/non-existent over the last 11 weeks so I’ve just learnt to persevere and it will all end up in the right place, with luck.

    Hello lovely PatC Sydneysider.

Here’s a little bit of science for you: to put on 2 lbs of fat you need to consume 7000 kcals more than you burn off. Clearly you didn’t do this – so it’s not real weight you have gained, it is just water shifting around inside you. Which means it will come off again – fast.

I know I’m weighing myself daily but I do recognise that the scales have the ability to make or break our day when we are desperate to see the numbers come down. Just remember that a step on the scales is a snapshot in time and not necessarily reflective of reality. I don’t know about you but I can +/- several lbs in a single day. It’s not a real number!

Go easy on yourself chook. Up your water intake to encourage any retention to flush out. But keep going: persistence is the only way these numbers will come down at all. Good luck!

Only people who have gone through years of looking at themselves in shop windows and not liking what they see can understand how we feel – we who have dieted for so long find it’s so hard to believe a diet will work – I believe this one will work despite my angst today.

    Hey all,

@patc – I suffered the indignity of an almost 2lbs gain a few days ago but it disappeared with interest today, making it a total of 9lbs I’ve lost altogether half way through week 2. So don’t be down, just stick to the plan and I bet it will be the same for you.

I’m celebrating making it to a BMI which is no longer in the ‘obese’ category. Who knew that I could be so happy being officially classified as ‘overweight’!?!

I did go a bit over my 800cals today, however. Gonna be super strict tomorrow to make up for it. I’ve also been enjoying being able to fit back into clothes that I had put away because they were too tight. Real concrete evidence that this is WORKING!!

    Morning campers!

Thanks for the boost. I love the support on this board!
Yesterday I took Dad out for dinner at a fast food place. He had a single with cheese combo and I had a small chicken caesar and a small chilli AND I used half of the chilli for dressing! Like a Taco salad without the tortilla chips! It was a nice change from the chicken caesars that have become a staple of my restaurant adventures.

Today I need to venture out from my office to the drug store, takes me right through the dangerzone. But I will prevail  even though the voices in my head are already justifying a donut. They are going to go hungry today.

PatC – Rant AWAY! You are doing FANTASTIC. Everyone loses at different speeds and we all have been or are going to be where you are. You did SO well in the face of all that temptation and are an inspiration. Your body may have been hanging onto lbs because you were so active (it sometimes takes a couple of days to register, IMO), or maybe the fat gods were just sleeping on the job 😉 Just make sure you’re getting enough water!

    Hugs to all!

    Keep on keeping on!

I have read your posts since arriving home. Well done to all who have lost weight. Encouragement vibes to those who are finding it a bit difficult. We managed to stay on track whilst away hubby has had to have a tin of prunes as an extra but he is okay now;-) I don’t think I have lost much but I do feel very different! Must add. I feel so much better in myself. I am sleeping better and feel as though I have a bit of my zest for life returning. So happy about that.

Just want to say. I cooked the chicken korma out of the book and it really hit the spot!

Thanks MixnMatch, I”ll read up about carb withdrawal. I wasn’t expecting such a fast reaction. Not feeling hungry though, which is better than I expected.

We really enjoyed our supper tonight of Beef Stir Fry from the recipe book that we had with courgetti spiralized from two courgettes. Amazingly we are not missing pasta being able to use spiralized vegetables instead. We were just saying that we don’t think we have ever eaten so healthily & feel fine eating this way.
We have also bought some ketosis uri-testers just to see if we have got there yet?

Hi Wendy1947.. I had spiralised courgette with one rasher of chopped bacon with a chilli braised pork chop and it was delicious. I have also been thinking of getting some ketones strips so I will be interested in what you think of them.
On a separate note …my husband eats what he wants and is as skinny as a ball point pen. He never weighs himself but on the rare occasion he does put on a little weight (when his clothes are a little tight) he cuts back on the bad stuff. Scales can be an enemy and a friend and I understand it’s nice to see progress but I am using the clothes and tape measure approach. My clothes feel better on me my stomach is flatter and I feel happier. This is the first time I’ve felt happy on a diet…..and I am eating really healthy food. I am missing orange squash and my cranberry juice drink😭. I am a little fed up of drinking water this week.

    KEEP ON KEEPING ON

    Hi everyone.
Good to hear or catch up with the latest news.
Today is the 17th, my weight has fluctuated. I’ve not lost anything, went away, put weight on again but to be honest I feel quite proud of our achievements.
It’s not easy to diet when everyone around you is tucking into goodies.
Dress it up as much as you like, low sugar this and low carb that, but I’d kill for a plate of pasta, or steak with chips, a big glass of red wine with chocolate cake!!
There, that’s said now, that’s my rant.
But here we are day 17 and still struggling, but getting there.
I’m not being negative, I guess I am hungry, but haven’t lost sight of my objectives.
As they say in my neck of the woods, keep your eyes on the prize.
    Cheers

Hi folks bit of an update. I upped everything as suggested and soaked linseed over night and had it with oats with apple fried in butter and cinnamon as recipe in book said. Anyway not sure what but something worked! Lol so thanks.
Anyway as to weight loss convo I weighted myself last week and had put on which got me down so decided not to for a bit. While at work today my trousers nearly fell down so I measured my tummy tonight after tea!! Stupid I know but I’ve now lost 3 inches in 3 weeks! I’m well happy with that and my legs feel thinner! I’m going to have to start Toning up now
So thanks for the support guys you’re all fabulous x good luck and onwards and downwards x
