Has anyone trained and successfully completed a 100km ultra marathon non stop walking?
I am looking for advice on nutrition as I no longer have traditional carbs in my diet (Pasta, Rice, Bread etc) I do eat lentils, beans, peas, Quinoa, Bulgar Wheat etc I have started training for the event in July and will be ramping up my exercise during the next 10 weeks so any advice I would be very grateful for.
Thank you

Hi Vince, well done on your success with the diet. As for ultra marathons I have no idea. You are on the right track with the good carbs like lentils, quinoa etc. As you are managing diabetes you need to be sure to always have something with you and I can only suggest nuts and seeds for long distance. I would say protein load but it is hard to carry an egg or some cheese with you. I just tried it on a holiday and had a bag of melon slices and they leaked all over my jeans so not such a good idea.
Hope someone comes along to help you and welcome to the site.

Thank you very much for taking the time to reply, and your kind words.
As I live in Souh Wales I go walking up the Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) most weekends. I take Nuts, seeds and fruit along with a small portion of peanut butter dip, which provides me with enough energy to get me through a 7, 8hr rigouros walk. I think it will be some experimentation as I ramp the training up to further distances, I am sure boiled eggs would be okay in a rucksack. Salt intake is another issue I need to address, I limit salt after years of battling blood pressure, but this diet seems to have sorted that out, I’m thinking of the kallo rice cakes which according to the label are low in sugars and most other things.Thank you again for the reply
Dr Michael Mosley 8 week blood sugar diet changed my life for the better, and I will forever be indebted to his book. -
