Hello fellow BSD friends. I start on Monday and off to shop for food today. I had thought I would follow the suggested menus for week one in the book as they are already calculated (it will include eating things I don’t like though). Has anyone else followed the suggested menus or do you all ‘pick and mix’ menus for each day?
Thanks for any advice – nervous about this as really want it to work!

    Hi Jill
I’m starting Monday too, also going to start off with the suggested menus and have been drawing up my shopping list for the weekly go round ‘Stresco’s’ (I hate supermarkets but it’s easier there than Painsbury’s or Whinerose!)

I find it’s best to stick as closely as possible to meal plans (I’ve done many diets!) and just swap things where I really can’t stand the thing suggested (for me it will be the almond butter and hiking breakfast)…consider it an adventure and you might be surprised!

The biggest challenge will be weaning off the ridiculous amount of peanut m&m’s, crops an wine I’ve been comforting myself with lately….and finding some energy to get a bit more active. But I’ve a sneaky feeling that reducing the junk will increase the energy, and that once I feel more energetic I will not want to slob on the sofa comfort eating! Win / win!

Best of luck for your Monday start ….I’ll be watching 🙂

    Xx

    Good luck both of you!

First week only for me but I’ve kept it simple with the quick and easy recipes from the book. Short recipes with few ingredients are my favourite.

Breakfast: Greek yoghurt, berries, chopped nuts on top
Lunch: shop bought hommous and sliced pepper or carrots
Dinner: vegetable soup with chopped chicken

I heat the berries for a minute in the microwave to make them a little tastier.

Thanks both for the thoughts and ideas I will stick to the recipes/menus to start off at least ! Let’s see where we are in a week Lesley!

If you aren’t confident to or don’t want to do your own calculations and tracking, it makes sense to stick with the meal plans. However, I have found this new regime has inspired me to get creative in the kitchen and really think about what I am preparing and eating. As sydneygirl said, if you keep it simple, but add flavour with herbs and spices, it is possible to make some delicious alternatives to the dishes in the book.
Once you are happy with how things are going, maybe you will find the confidence to create some dishes yourself. Keep us posted on your progress and good luck.

    Morning Jill
Sorry to hear you were hungry yesterday. I admit I did have my lunch a bit earlier and cooked dinner as soon as I got home from work (LOVED the aubergine and lamb thingy!) so needed a bit of will power later in the evening, but drank lots of camomile tea, put on a good movie and stuck out till 10:15. Funny thing is, I was already feeling better, more lively…even did the dishes after dinner! Not sure if that’s just a mental thing because I’m glad to be finally taking some action, or its really down to what I ate and drank (or more precisely what I DIDNT eat and drink!) but whichever it is I’ll take it! 🙂

I’ve just finished breakfast (Bircher as I’ve swapped day two and three as the curry will suit my son better…he usually drops by on Wednesdays) which was yummy and am looking forward to the day ahead.

    Gave a great day

    Namaste

Hey Lesley thanks for the follow up – really good to hear you had a good day one! Apologies for the slight winge – no more of that – just a hiccup – onwards and upwards!
I made the lamb/aubergine thingy too and did enough for two people so will have a brunch today and the rest of it for dinner tonight. Well done !
