    Hello and welcome

This is the latest thread in the 2023 Healthy New Me series. Please do join us! We are a motley crew who are on a long term weight loss journey, which we like to think of as a bus tour – just to have a bit of fun along the way.

This thread will run for just over 8 weeks throughout May and June, so there is plenty of time to achieve significant weight loss and meet your ultimate or interim goals.

We look forward to travelling with you 😀

Hi again. If you’re joining this journey, feel free to share the goals you hope to achieve, so that we can support you along the way.

My long term goal since starting BSD/Fast 800 (in 2017 would you believe!) has been to get to 133lb and I’ve nearly done it a couple of times. However, life has also got in the way and I’m currently 147lb. Which seeing as I originally started at 175lb is still positive, but I would love to get to 133lb this time, which means losing a stone in 8.5 weeks. Do-able in theory so that is my ultimate goal. But as a back up, I’d be very happy to at least get under 140lb and be back in the nines again.

My strategy is to use TRE – Time Restricted Eating – and have 2 meals a day between 11:00 and 19:00. I also find I am more successful when I plan my meals carefully and for me the recipes in pretty much any MM book work really well. So I’ll be following those strictly at least for the first couple of weeks. My main weakness is wine, so that has to go! Though I may raise a glass on Coronation Day. I also want to up my exercise as that has been sadly lacking recently. I intend to do longer walks and hit a minimum 10000 steps a day – most days I tend to average around 6-7000. I also want to resume running, which I had been doing very well with through all the Covid lockdowns but then had back problems and longer working hours and it all kind of fell apart.

So, lots to get on with. Wish me luck!! I weigh daily but my target day each week is Friday and I’m hoping to be 145lb by Friday this week 🤞

Thank you DCT for setting us up on another journey. Im jumping on board with you all and looking forward to losing about 20 lb over the course of this journey. Like DCT I started at 175 lb in 2017 and did reach my goal later that year of 133lb but couldn’t maintain that weight. I am impressed DCT that you’ve kept your weight down so low and 147 is amazing! That’s impressive after 6 years. . Today I am 155 lb after an unsuccessful year or so of faffing about and I am determined to get to my goal of between 138 and 142 lb. In the next two to three weeks my aim is to get below 150 lbs and then slowly chip away week by week doing a combination of alternate day fasting and one meal a day. It seems it’s the only way I can shed weight now and I am prepared to do whatever it takes. I am so happy to be sharing this journey with you all and am confident that we will all have a happy tale to tell at the end of June. We can definitely achieve our goals during this journey.
I will be weighing myself every Saturday morning and will post my weight each week. Let’s do this! We are not asking for the impossible and we are all committed and have proved how resilient we all are.

Hi guys, I am jumping on the bus again.

I seem to have gone from 1 large squidgy large spare tyre, to two in the last week, I would like to get rid of one of them in the next couple of months but that all depends on my body playing ball. I have been hit by the usual issue of our bodies never seeming to do the logical bit with what fat to burn. Instead of a little evenly of the area from under bust to hips, I have had hollows develop at my waist so I have 2 spare tyres

Have just completed our 12 weeks.
I lost 2 stone 8 lbs ( 69 year old male ,started 17.6 now 14.12) partner she lost 1 stone 10 lbs. Both vegetarians. Bought the book and found his partners recipe book in Oxfam. Was prediabetic, then GP recommended book. He was very happy with himself.
Lets look on downsize, new jeans have been expensive, belt is not working, the staff in the health shop now know me , I know what Chia seeds, carbs and keto is, moving from Obese to Over weight, I might even make a healthy weight BMI ! My hairdresser, even bald men have a hairdresser, she was very keen on the diet till I told her I had cut out alcohol, that sunk her enthusiasm i can even tell you that Peru are third largest grower of Blueberries in the world behind China and USA.
The two books are great, we have not gone weird , no sweets, no rice,no pasta, just Blood sugar Diet.
The GP is now reading and recommending ‘Glucose Revolution’, I cant let him down, so have bought and am reading but not getting the same buzz. It was the recipe book that made this a success for us.
If you can give up 8 to 12 weeks for better eating you will live much longer, which does have benefits

I am vegetarian and we don’t have the same low carb choices as meat/fish eaters!Thank you for posting about your success with this way of eating and also for your humour. I reckon you’ll definitely see a healthy weight BMI during this challenge and I’ll look forward to reading about your progress as we set off for our next leg of the journey.

NSV, both my big toe nails and two of my other toe nails have been deformed and miscoloured for years, I remember which horse were responsible for each of them. – Three of them have a ridge with the new growth which is now about half the nail being a nice shiny clear nail. The worst of the big toe nails had a massive ridge between the two and it looks like the old and new nails were such a different shape they were not connected. The worst of the black toe nails just fell off.

By the way CC, I meant to stay that I think you are braver than me when it comes to fasting. The first 36 hours in particular are the worst time of a fast as your body is switching over to fat burning and the bad gut bacteria are screaming at you that they want feeding. – From day 4 onwards all the physical hunger signals are over as your body is settled into fat burning and all you are facing are your mental desires for food.

I’ve been working on my gut health for few months by drinking Kombucha (Remedy Kombucha from Amazon- delicious) other brands available and eating kéfir with my berries. I was hoping that by introducing good bacteria into my gut that they might help with weight loss and hopefully during 36 hour fasts the bad bacteria won’t win.

    Hello everyone
Just starting my last 36 hour fast of a two week experiment. This is my 7th fast in the last fortnight. . From Saturday I’m doing one meal a day for two weeks. I’ve quite enjoyed the discipline and hopefully will see some weight loss on Saturday when I weigh myself.I will be disappointed if my efforts don’t pay off! I’ll see how I fare with one meal a day- I’ve never tried it. I’ll then weigh up which I think is the best for me and it might be that I mix it up week by week. I am hoping to lose 20 lb by the end of June! So I have to be super strict and find what affords me the best weight loss! It’s only two hours since I ate my evening meal and I already feel hungry!! Doesn’t bode well! I won’t be eating until Friday breakfast!!!
I put some clothes for sale on Vinted a few weeks ago because they were too small for me. Yesterday I tried them on and although tight I know they’ll fit me when I’ve lost more weight so I’ve taken them off Vinted and am going to keep them for when I am slim again!!!!
Hope everyone is feeling positive and I’ll look forward to reading about your progress along the way. I’ll report in on Saturday morning with my weight loss for this week. I would love to have lost another 3lb – it feels I’ve worked hard this last week.

Hello all, I’m back for another journey.
I’m aiming to lose 4-6kg this trip. 4kg will see me get back to the weight I was last October, 6kg would see me at my lowest weight in 20 odd years! Then I can focus on the next (and last) 6kg I want to lose after that.
I find breaking my goals down into smaller ones more manageable.
For those who don’t know me, I’m another 2017 veteran who’s had lots of ups and downs with my weight. I started at 103kg and last year got down to 86kg (briefly), then seemed to settle at 88kg, which I felt good at. Now I think I’ve crept up to about 92kg so time to put the brakes on the weight gain and go back the other way!
This weeks I’ve been eating in a 12 hour window, so doing 12:12 TRE, then next week plan to move to 14:10 then the week after that 16:8 where I’ll stay for the rest of the challenge.
I’ve also started eating more healthier foods this week, increasing my fruit and veg intake, and eating smaller portions.
I’ll move onto calorie/carb counting next week. My weigh days will be Fridays so I’ll post a starting weight tomorrow.

Cathy – I love Kombucha too and have found the Aldi one (here in Australia) to be just as nice as Remedy (it may even be the same!). The Aldi ones cost $5.99 for a 4 pack of cans.

Yowzer – well done on your weight loss during the last journey, very inspirational.

Andrew – congratulations to you and your partner too!

Good to see you back with us Sue. I’ve not seen Kombucha in UK Aldi!!!! I think we might be behind the curve here in the Uk. It looks like you’re doing what I am doing and mixing things up a bit with your eating. I think it’s a great idea.
You’re so close now Sue to your goal weight. Well done on your commitment and resolve to keep going. I let myself down big style by letting so many pounds creep after getting to goal but I’m determined to get them off once and for all. I am firmly in ketosis tonight which I am shocked about because even though I’m doing ADF- I eat “normally” on my non fasting days – not going mad but definitely not keto! Ive not been testing but ordered some ketostix which arrived today so I did a text expecting it to be negative. I’ll be interested to see how much I’ve lost this week before changing to OMAD on Sunday.

Glad to see you back on the bus . I think a few of us are hoping that this is our time. I lost 1.2 lb this week. I have to say I was expecting a little more after three 36 hour fasts but my fat is stubborn! Today I am starting one meal a day for two weeks. Today my weight is 154.2. Hoping to get into the 140’s in the next few weeks.
Keep up the good work everyone – this could well be our time! My disappointing weigh in has inspired me to keep going even harder!

Hi everyone. I would also like to continue to be part of this journey. I have reached my target plus a bit of wriggle room of 4 pounds. Now comes the difficult bit. Since 2010 I get to my target weight for my blood tests at the beginning of the year and then I put it all back on again. Its yoyo dieting at its best. I seem to self sabotage every year and socialising is a problem with friends who say not to over do it. Its great to hear everyone on hear saying “yes you can do it”! So glad to be on here with such positive people. Not sure I could have done this without reading all your helpful posts. Norma xxx

Hi everyone, late again but still here. Another veteran of 2017!
I’m just plugging away, low carb two meals a day, walking the dog, etc etc. It’s working for me though, slowly of course but so far16lb gone this year and have moved from obese to the overweight range. CC, your current weight is my goal weight! Still a way to go but I think it’s achievable- then the maintenance struggle. Of course I say this time I’ll manage it, I hope I can.

Andrew those are stellar results, well done!

Mariet- well done on shedding 16lb this year- incredible! I was putting away my weighted blanket this weekend and I checked to see how much it weighed and guess what- it was 16lb and it was heavy!! To have lost that amount of weight is incredible and until we actually feel the weight we don’t appreciate just how much weight has gone. I initially lost 42lb – there is no way I’d be able to pick that amount of weight up. Something to think about as we continue with our weight loss journey. Don’t under-estimate exactly how much weight we are shedding! Every pound is two packets of lard! I’ve lost a bag of potatoes and two packets of lard in the last couple of weeks- I’m aiming to lose a weighted blanket and 8 packets of lard! Keep losing everyone! Let’s all be big losers at the end of June!

By the way, I’ve never had a weighted blanket, would you recommend? I sometimes have a lot of trouble getting to sleep.
I would like to lose another 20 packets of lard 😂
Well done on your losses. I’ve been interested in all the strategies you’ve been trying. I can do one meal a day but anything that involves me going hungry to bed is a washout, I don’t do well without sleep and I can’t sleep if I’m hungry. So I’m in awe of your long fasts.
I lost 25kg in 2017, about 55lb. Hard to believe now that I did it. I didn’t regain it all but enough to make this a hard slog again, so annoyed with myself.

Mariet- like you I’ve gradually put on some weight but still kept off a good amount and like you I am so annoyed with to myself because it’s been so much harder to lose it again and you’re right, it is a slog!! I’m mixing things up because I can’t seem to find the secret to losing weight this time round. I am hoping that by doing two week stints of different approaches for a total of 10 weeks I might find some success.
Re the weighted blanket -my son bought it for me as a surprise Christmas gift a few years ago and I would certainly recommend one. Mine weighs 16 lb which feels comfortable.
I’ll be reporting back on Saturday after my weekly weigh in- one meal a day this week so let’s see what this weeks experiment will achieve- I was disappointed with 1.4 lb last week- I can’t lie! I’m trying on clothes as well as weighing because it’s not all about the scales.

I have good news and bad news today. – It was the monthly appointment with the nurse in the cardiac team at the local hospital.

The good news is that they did another ECG and to my eyes I don’t think the result was a bad as the previous one. There wasn’t the double spike on the upwards reading, and it wasn’t as wide on the downwards spike. The nurse has also given up on trying to get me to have a high carb diet and take blood pressure medication.

The bad news is that she is going to go back to the cardiologist and then will write to my doctor but it sounds like no more appointments. – It was so inspiring wanting to prove her wrong by improving blood pressure and weight through fasting. So now I have the challenge of focusing on fasting for autophagy to try to improve the result from a further echocardiogram without the inspiration of wanting to show her.

JGwen – you’ve stuck to your principles and the nurse has had to respect your knowledge and research. No more appointments must be good news. You’ve proved your point and as you’re an expert faster I think you’ve won this battle. You have your own health and well-being to consider and that in itself will be enough inspiration. You have nothing to prove to anyone now. Keep doing what you believe will give you optimal results, well done for sticking to your principles.
I am really interested to see how my week of OMAD has gone. It has been difficult being at work with no breakfast and having no lunch but I’ve so looked forward to my evening meal. I can’t work out whether ADF is easier than OMAD. With ADF I have one “normal “ day every other day and the health benefits of lengthier fasting but it’s pretty difficult in an evening after a day at work knowing I can’t eat until the following morning. I am in ketosis with OMAD and do enjoy my evening meal but I wonder if I am getting enough nutritionally as I don’t think I am eating enough in one meal. I will see what the scales show on Saturday, continue with OMAD for a second week and then decide what my plan is for week 5.

One of my colleagues has bought a “slimming injection” from her nail technician so she can lose weight! I was horrified. She told me she doesn’t have my willpower. I don’t have her blasé attitude to injecting myself with medication unsupervised. It makes fasting seem so simple!
Hope everyone is having a good week.

    Hi Cathy,
I don’t have any hope that the nurse has respected my knowledge and research. – After looking at the info sheet in the last lot of drugs she prescribed and realising that the manufacturers said they should not be taken by anyone down regulating mTor I sent her an email explaining the issue and included a link from an American cardiologist on the benefits of down regulating mTor to achieve autophagy. – She mentioned that she had noticed I had sent her an email, but couldn’t remember what she had done with it, and asked if had I taken the drugs she prescribed. – Big deep sigh when I said no, and why. She suggested a further drug and asked me if I would take it, I said yes providing it was compatible with fasting. Another big sigh and she started reading something on the computer, and obviously just gave up. – I think she was trying to work out if that drug was compatible with fasting and couldn’t work it out.

I am sure I am down as being a difficult customer rather than a respected customer. My blood pressure is now in a good place when standing, but not when setting. If I can get that improved, then there wouldn’t be any reason for them to prescribe any medication anyway as the purpose of the medication is to prevent high blood pressure putting stress on my heart. – I am fairly sure my improvements will not be recorded by the cardiac team as improvement in heart health as a result of fasting / autophagy, it will just be recorded as covid infection clearing up.

What I would really like to do is have the time before the next echo cardiogram to get in enough fasting to make further improvements to my heart output. It will make a difference to travel insurance costs If I am not in the severe heart failure category. In the worst case situation it may be worth paying for a private echo cardiogram once I get towards my target weight before booking foreign travel.

    Morning everyone
Just reporting in my weekly weight loss for this week. I’ve been eating one meal a day and fasting for 23 hours every day this week as part of my 10 week experiment. I can report that this week I have lost nil points!!! I am exactly the same weight as I was last Saturday morning and I am thoroughly fed up! Every day I’ve sat in the.tearoom at work with my colleagues who’ve been eating sandwiches and crisps and biscuits and chocolate and I’ve had a cup of black coffee and water. I’ve had a one hour eating window each evening and I’ve eaten healthy low carb dinners – omelette, frittata, feta bake, vegetables, Greek yoghurt and berries .
I am meeting a friend today for lunch and drinks and I’m not dieting today! I am so upset not to have lost anything! I’ll reset tomorrow and think about what to do next week. At the moment I am too upset to even think about fasting ever again!

    Cathy,
Have you looked for inch loss? Clothes looser, changes when you look in the mirror?

There was a thread started a couple of weeks ago asking what advice you would give yourself if you could go back in time to the start of the journey. My advice to myself would have been to not spend months / years messing around trying to count carbs, having eating windows and keeping my fingers crossed that would be enough to fix my insulin resistance. It meant that when I was forced off the wagon by covid and needed cough medication just to get some sleep as well as craving soft processed foods like rice pudding and ice cream to deal with my raw throat I piled weight back on. – I should have just been strong enough to admit I was IR and that food was a comfort blanket / craving. If after the first few weeks of following Dr MM’s work and then reading about the science I had knuckled down to follow Dr Fungs protocol for a few months I wouldn’t have been playing snakes and ladders with the scale for the years that I have.

I’ve been out with a friend today and had a day off dieting! I had a little cry in the shower this morning – I was so convinced I would have lost 2lb. Nokie I am so sorry that you’re in the same boat as me. It’s so upsetting isn’t it. On a positive note J Gwen, I wore a lovely pair of floral trousers today and they were a size 12 and fitted better than they did a few weeks ago so that is a non scale victory. I know scales don’t always tell the whole story!! My son thought I was mad for weighing only once a week because he said he can be up and down but I can only cope with one disappointment a week!
I am going to enjoy the Eurovision Song Contest tonight and am going to continue with my one meal a day fast for the next week. Tomorrow starts a new day and I hope that my nil point today will mean I lose an extra pound next week! I have to continue my weight loss mission to find out how I can lose the excess weight I am carrying.
Have a good week everyone and I’ll report back next Saturday morning with hopefully some good news. So far I’ve lost 4.4lb in three weeks! I weigh 154.4 lb today the exact same as last Saturday and I am aiming for 138 -142 lb. I had listened to a podcast which said I could lose 20lb in 10 weeks doing a combination of ADF and OMAD but that isn’t going to happen for me!

Nokie- I want to lose a similar amount of weight to you. I want my size 12 clothes to fit comfortably. I can’t afford to buy new items of clothing and when I lost my weight in 2017 I got rid of anything above a size 12 to keep me on the straight and narrow. I didn’t think losing weight would be so difficult but my body does not seem to be responding as I had hoped to OMAD. I’ll give it a fair trial of another week and then think of where I go from here at the weekend. Tight clothes will be tried on each Saturday. I’ve never measured myself because I can’t be sure the measurements I take are accurate with a tape measure and where I place it. Tight jeans will be the perfect guide to any inch loss! Onwards and downwards.

    Hello all
It’s Mother’s Day here and I had a lovely day with my family. I weighed myself this morning and was very surprised to see that I have lost 1.5kg since starting last week! I can only put it down to increased activity as I’ve had a very busy week, walking 10-12,000 steps most days and spending 3-4 hours doing heavy gardening at MIL’s house! I haven’t been counting calories but have been sticking to 12:12 TRE. I’m moving on to 14:10 this week, plus aiming to count carbs at least.

Cathy – I feel for you! I can only imagine how you felt after all that effort and to not lose! But glad you had an NSV with your floral pants 🙂 perhaps it is worth doing daily weighing for a week or
So in case you are having fluctuations that are missed during weekly weigh ins? My usual weigh in day is Friday and this Friday I had lost .4kg. Then when I weighed myself this morning I had lost another 1.1kg – would this have shown up next week? I’m not sure! But I wouldn’t have seen this loss if I hadn’t have weighed Again today… but then again scales tell only part of the story, so If your clothes are feeling better that’s gr st :hope everyone is doing well – have a good week 🙂

I’ve just been reading about some research that says people who weigh themselves every day double their weight loss compared to those who weigh monthly and people average347 fewer calories per day when they weigh themselves on that day. I’ve been reading The Every Other Day Diet by Krista Varady. I am going to weigh daily this week to see if there are any fluctuations in my weight. It is what my son told me yesterday about his weight loss journey and his weighing routine. Another thing to take on board. Thank you for your advice and experience. It’s good to listen to advice and pass on top tips.

Cathy, I am glad you are seeing progress with the fit of your clothes. – I have a dress that I bought from a charity shop which is my target dress size. – Its gathering dust at present as I have a couple of dress sizes to go before its worth starting to even judge progress using it. But I will get there.

Sorry if my mention of my views on fasting came across as harsh in my last post. – A few hours after writing it I thought about editing it to make it clear that I was kicking my own butt not telling others what they should do but there isn’t that facility. I have the ingredients to hand for a meal this evening, then I will roll into the next fast.

I have been playing with my calculator on how many months of extended fasts I am going to need to reach my target weight. I am going to be fasting for a while, so If anyone wants a fasting buddy to help them get into the rhythm of fasting to reverse IR then I am happy to help.

Hello all, just checking in. Sorry for not posting more but busy times, However I do read all your posts and am cheering you on.

JGWEN thanks for your helpful posts as always, and never worry about trying to edit afterwards (same applies to everyone else!) I think it’s good to speak from the heart and just post what we want to, even if on reflection we might have said things differently. But I think those of us who have. been on this journey for a while know each other well enough to be comfortable saying whatever/however we want to . . . and I hope that any newcomers / passive members would also feel the same freedom.

CATHY keep going! It’s great that your clothes are feeling better even though there is no visible progress on the scales. And I’m a firm believer in weighing daily. In fact I take my weekly weight as the lowest of the week. Some may see that as cheating but I don’t care! I have a weekly weight loss goal and if I hit it during the week I’m happy, even if my end of week weight has crept up slightly. I’ve learned that there are so many daily fluctuations for all kinds of reasons, that as long as I’m broadly heading in the right direction that’s fine. And I’ve found that by doing this it doesn’t faze me as much if for a day or two there is no loss or perhaps even a gain. It’s just the way it is. So Cathy I’d really endorse trying that so you get a more accurate picture. I know you love your music so think of it like sound waves in a music recording : the more often you take sound samples, the more accurate your final recording will be 😀

SUEBLUE lovely to hear from you and well done for another loss. I think we’re at similar stages of life in terms of trying to fit in elderly care with work, family, diet, exercise and everything else. Just hang in there and I’m sure you will get to where you want to be!

Hello too to NOKIE, MARIET, DAWN, DERMA and everyone else on this thread. ANDREW how are you doing now? Are you taking a break or still going forward? I completely agree with you about the recipe book; somehow I achieve much better results if I stick to the recipes in the book rather than doing my own thing. Good luck with whatever you decide to do next!

Keep going everyone. We still have 6 weeks to go which is plenty of time to achieve some serious weight and body changes X

Its week 13, off Diet but lost another 2lbs, I think its stress of daughter doing final exams , and also that I’m still 90% still following the recipe book, and doing 5:2 plan on a Tuesday and Thursday.
I feel comfortable with my fast 800, could not do the ‘fast’ route, never wanted to be a monk that much. !!
Now lost 2 stone 10 lbs, another 10 lbs needed for healthy BMI
The Brownie recipe from the Diet book has kept me afloat . Never made them in 60 years, and now its the only sweet eaten in the house
If you are a football fan then you will know that all the weight lost cannot compensate when Arsenal FC don’t win the Premier League

    Hi

Just came across this thread, can I still board the bus??
I started the BSD around 8 weeks ago with prediabetes. Blood sugars have returned to normal levels within 2 weeks but weight loss has been painfully slow. I am sticking to 800 cals for the long term, alongside IF. I am also doing 18:6 or 16:8 on the days when I’m not fasting.
JGwen, I am very interested in being your fasting partner!!
Starting weight 90kg, current weight 85.4kg

Good luck to everyone with your losses, lets hope for big losses all around!

Hi HAPPYSNAP and welcome! It’s great to have you on board 😀 You say your weight loss is slow but you’ve still managed to lose almost 5k in 8 weeks which is a pretty good start. Everyone loses weight at different rates so don’t compare yourself with anyone else, especially if they seem to having dramatic results : some do, some don’t. We’re all unique. I think you’ve done really well with your weight loss so far and – more importantly – your blood sugars have responded really well.

It’s also great that you are thinking strategically in terms of how to manage your weight loss. Most of us on here have found that different combinations seem to work at different stages, so as you go along I’m sure your experiments with IF and TRE etc will reap results. And yes, JGWEN is an amazing example of long term fasting so you will learn a lot from her.

ANDREW well done for a further loss. I’m sure you’ll soon get to where you want to be. Your success is really inspiring. I hope your daughter’s exams go well 🤞

How’s everyone else doing this week? x

    Hello everyone
Am weighing daily as per advice and research. So far I’m down 2lb since Monday! I put on 2lb at the weekend after my day off (water weight) and that weight has now gone. Im doing OMAD this week. I’m hoping that before my official weigh day on Saturday I’ll be a little less than I was last Saturday. I’m determined to get into the 140s in the next couple of weeks. Then I’ll slowly head back down to my goal weight. Clothes are feeling more comfortable and my resolve is as strong as ever. . I’m working Wednesday Thursday and Friday this week so a few challenges ahead but I’m determined to prove to myself I can do this again.
Some great weight losses amongst us and some even greater determination and inspiration. Thank you everyone for making this journey doable. Your support and encouragement is what helps me keep going.

Hi happysnap, I am happy to chat away about fasting.

One thing I think is very important is to not just measure progress with the scales.

A 24 hour fast on average results in burning 0.5lb of fat. – However, high levels of insulin blocks other hormone systems including the growth hormone. Its growth hormone that is responsible for building strong bones and building muscle in response to exercise. As you start to fast so your start having lower insulin levels your body will want to catch up with maintenance. Its not unusual for you to have inch loss but no change on the scales or even an increase in weight. The inch loss may as well not be in areas you are likely to monitor. Quite a few of us dropped a shoe size, or had our collar bones emerge before we saw any changes on waist measurement.

Hi all. I’m still here lurking and panicking a bit. I reached my goal weight a couple of weeks ago mainly achieved by fasting and restricting carbs to 20g. Am now doing TRE and I don’t eat breakfast never have so I am not really fasting. I have found that the TRE is working too well as I’m still loosing weight but I’m scared to up my carbs as I have in the past as this has started piling the weight back on. I’ve got so far but now I don’t know what to do. Help and advice please.

Norma firstly congratulations on reaching your goal weight 🥳

I haven’t had your problem so not speaking from experience, but it may be worth increasing your protein and fat intake, and gradually increase healthy carbs? I’m thinking foods like nuts, cheese, eggs, avocado, and with carbs having a slice of sour dough rye bread or grain bread, or a small amount of brown rice or wholemeal pasta with some meals? I’m sure there’s some suggestions for maintenance in Dr MM’s books (BSD, Fast 800 etc), it’s been a while since I read my copies but I’ll have a look.

    Hi Norma,

The advice I have seen on the Dr Fung facebook group is to increase the calories from fat in your diet, nice creamy sauces, butter melted over veg. You don’t have to increase carbs eaten when you want to stabilise weight.

Thank you Sue Blue for responding so quickly. JGwen , that’s fantastic news I had been looking at the Fung blogs but couldn’t find anything – looking in the wrong places! You don’t know how happy I am to be part of the group.

    Morning everyone
Another week of OMAD completed. A disappointing 1lb gain this week! How is it possible? So I won’t be doing OMAD again. Two weeks wasted!
I’ve been reading a book called the every other day diet by Dr Krista Varady but if OMAD didn’t work after two weeks I don’t see how this would be any different:
I am going to go back to the original blood sugar diet 800 calories for two weeks and see what happens. So far in four weeks solid hardcore work I’ve lost a total of 3lb. I will eat low carb, small meals twice a day- I don’t need breakfast anymore and after not eating lunch for the best part of four weeks a small lunch will suffice.
Hope everyone is having better success than me weight wise: I’ll try my tight clothes on tomorrow and see how they’re feeling.
I’ll crack this weight loss trick eventually!

Im so sorry CCATHY,its so demoralising isnt it. But these mysteries happen sometimes,we get a nasty disappointment, then it turns itself around and we get a reward for our hard work. And… Dont forget your NSV though of size 12 trousers fitting!👏👏👏👏 ( thunderous applause!)👏👏👏👏
Lets all give ourselves a pat on the back..goodness knows, the bus gang try,try and try again,we never give up,never surrender!
I read a thing yesterday and it resonated with me..it said to say ‘I get to’ rather than ‘Ive got to..’
So im trying to think,”I get to follow a low carb diet”,instead of “ive got to follow a low carb diet”. Makes it sound like a great choice we’re making freely, and a little more fun?
Im thinking it as regards to keeping moving too…”I get to exercise” rather than “ive got to exercise.”
Have a good week everyone and keep the bus rockin and rollin! Love to all XXXXXXXX
🌻🌷 You are amazing and strong and brave and wonderful! Remember that xx 🌷🌻

I had some social events on Saturday and Sunday this weekend when I either knew that attending would involve sitting at a table while everyone else ate, or part of the fund of the event was sitting with a pint watching a display. so I just did a 72 hour fast last week.

I am already feeling bloated from having eaten a couple of meals a day for two days – back to fasting again this evening.

I watched in interesting video of Megan giving a talk at a low carb conference from a few years ago. – It was obviously a response to the time when an expert on low carb for sports people went on the attack on Dr Fungs protocol calling it damaging because fasting results in the loss of muscle. – Megan mentions at the start of her talk that she has completely revised her talk overnight, and then she lays out in details the average profile of their clients, their budget for food, living arrangements, and their health issues.

I was listening to an interview on radio 4 as I drove on Saturday and someone was talking about spiting their time between the UK and Australia, enjoying the summers in both countries. Its given me inspiration for a big award, I calculate on the average amount of fat people burn per fasting day that I will not get down to my target weigh before the end of the UK summer. I want to visit either New Zealand or Aus so that could be a good combination. – Working to be good and beach ready by December. Fasting over the summer and then combining fasting with working out in the gym as the nights start to draw in makes a good combination.

    Hello everyone
Your plan sounds great JGwen and something rewarding to aim for. I’ve not had any luck with fasting apart from the first week of my 36 hour ADF regime so I’ve sacked it off for week five of my 10 week protocol. This week I’m doing BSD 800 calories but I only started today! I had a pizza and red wine on Saturday evening and when I weighed myself this morning I was up 4lb from Saturdays weigh in of 155 lb! Two steps forward and three back!
I’ve had salad and anegg and some quorn slices for my lunch: I haven’t eaten lunch for a few weeks so I felt full. I had coffee for breakfast. Mushroom omelette and salad for my evening meal.
I feel I am getting a little obsessive about eating and counting the cost of every mouthful (weight wise) so that is slightly concerning! I can see why some of my friends do not own scales and never know or care what they weigh. Anyway, healthy eating this week for me- there’s nothing wrong with being careful and healthy!
