These are fantastically filling and delicious. They can be sweet or savoury. I have them with soup as you would bread.

Ingredients

• 80 g gram flour
• One egg
• 50 ml soya milk or milk
• Flavourings ( optional)
• 2 tsps oil for oiling pan.

Method

Beat all ingredients together.
Add flavourings, eg chopped onion, or sliced strawberries etc
Drop spoonfuls onto a well oiled, hot frying pan. Turn when bubbles break on top.
Cook the other side for a minute or less.
Re oil pan as necessary.

5 stars. Really nice! although if I wasn’t finished my eight weeks weight loss for now, I would perhaps avoid. Too nice to resist. I added sultanas and also some baking powder so they would rise. Can I ask what they are like without a raising agent? Sorry no image… Ate them before I remembered!

Tried these today, work well – look like & have the same texture as the scotch pancakes I’m used to. Very handy to have with soups. Had one cold with a smear of Marmite. Will definitely try again, and experiment with flavourings.
Barbarar – I didn’t use baking powder – the result is very flat!

Gram flour is chickpea flour, used a lot in Indian cookery. It is also known as Besam flour. Available in many Tesco stores and elsewhere.

I, too loved them, but I ate them ALL. I think it should read that it’s 4 servings because when I logged all the ingredients into Myfitnesspal, it comes out as a whopping 596Kcals for the lot and 46g of carb😳😳😳.
Great recipe pmshrink, but you may want to consider altering the ‘4 servings of 4 each’ bit ……I misunderstood it.

    I added blueberries and they were lovely. Not sure about the plain batch I made but I suspect they will be nice with soup as the author suggests. It will be nice to have something to dunk in soup, or perhaps even gravy, when the kids are having yorkshire puddings…;

I sort made these by accident – or one huge one!
I started out to make a batter with just gram flour and water, but added too much water – only 20g of gram flour.
I had a tiny bit of baking soda in mine too, and had it with smoked salmon, cottage cheese and samphire.
