Wow Ziggy, where to start. I have just finished week 6 and I will stay on it for longer than 8. I have been on 24 units of insulin in the past when I had good control so don’t expect to come off now just because I am at 26. However, in the past my b/g have run at 120 ish on morning tests. Now they are rarely more than 100. I have been on insulin for 9 years because I couldn’t ‘stomach’ the meds and my doctor encouraged me to go on it because he said it was an easy solution to my stomach problems.
I started on Atenonol when I was diagnosed with high BP 20 years ago, the Zestril is since I was diagnosed with diabetes.
I also take Simvastatin for high cholesterol which can run at 11 without medication. That is also for 20 years as I was tested when they diagnosed high BP. I was on 60mg of Simvastatin in the UK but my doctor here said it was illegal to give more than 40mg. He said my undiagnosed diabetes was probably part of the high cholesterol problem. I stayed at 40mg until 2 years ago when I started having jumping around the bedroom screaming leg cramps, them arm cramps. He took me off the Simva completely with no replacement and my very good cholesterol (around 3) shot up to 9 so he had to put me back on it but at 20mg where I am now.
Finally, did I tell him about the diet. Yes, but not the detail – not the 800 cal bit. He is very open-minded and knows I go off on tangents and do my own thing. I am hoping the evidence will convince him and I will give him links to the research and ask him to look into it for his own benefit.
