Morning, I’ve just completed week 1 and have lost 4lbs. However this was all within the first 3 days. My scales have not moved at all for 4 days, which is getting very frustrating! I’m eating 800-900 cals, approximately 30g of carbs and drinking 2-2.5l of water a day. I’ve been in ketosis since day 3. Don’t know quite what to next? Any suggestions much appreciated. Thanks in advance xxx

    Hi Meredex
early stage plateaux do happen, it’s just your body readjusting to the new regime. If you look through the forums there are lots of people who have had them and then came out the other side and started losing again.
Don’t get too frustrated, we are all individuals and our bodies react at different speeds.
Stick to the plan, keep your fat intake up, and the weight loss will start again.

Hi Meredex, certainly not alone, don’t those fats taste good 😀
week 9 lost 2 stone, blood sugars now in pre diabetic range and heading for normal.
You can do the same or better, stick to it, the results will come.

    Hi Meredex

Too many years of various slimming clubs actually helped when I hit plateaux on the BSD. I remembered being told it was my body adjusting. That helped me keep on track when the scales stuck.

Now, nearly 16 weeks on BSD I’ve lost just over 3 stone, my fasting blood sugars are right down and I feel great b

Stick at it, you will get results. As those same club leaders used to say ‘the plan works, if you work the plan’ 😃

    Hi Meredex
You’re definitely not alone in this, I plateaued quite early on too. It will pass and you will start to show a loss on the scales again. Bill is right about the fat and carbs – if you keep and eye on both, keeping the first up and the later down, things will soon start to happen again. Don’t be disheartened, go with the flow and don’t stress about your body taking time to adjust.
Hope to see some positive results posted by you soon.

Thanks Bill, Captin and Sunny! I’m a it of a scales addict so may give them a miss for a day or too. I’ve been to so many slimming clubs so your advice was spot on! I’m going to concentrate on nice meals and plenty of water. Thanks again and please keep me posted on how you are all doing (brilliantly by the sounds of things) xx

Hi Meredex, how are you going now? Have you had weight loss? Also feeling frustrated as I have had the same experience this week. I have def. been under 800 and did 15,000 steps yesterday and nothing! Really need this to work.

Hi lucyjane, well the scales didn’t move for 8 days!! Nothing, not even 1/2 pound! I stuck to it and I’m 1lb down today so I’m hoping the plateau has passed. But I did go out last night and had a few drinks so it could be that I’m dehydrated! I’ll know more tomorrow when I weigh. It’s really frustrating when you stick to the plan and it doesn’t seen to be working. Keep with it and I’ll let you know tomorrow, don’t be beaten xx

Hi meredex if those drinks were alcoholic they won’t help you because of te sugars/ empty calories. I would advise staying of them for a while 🙂

    Hello,
i am on day 9 and had a three day plateau, then the weight loss resumed. Researching round the internet I found that there is a phenomenon called ‘the whoosh!’ The following is from another blog ‘It is actually called dieter’s edema and it’s pretty common and the reason weight loss is non-linear. I personally only show a loss about every three weeks to a month where I will drop 2 or 3 pounds at once.
What happens is as your body begins to empty fat cells, it replaces the lost fat in the cells with water, in anticipation of replenishing your fat supply. Because building new tissue is hard work for the body (even fat cells, believe it or not) it will attempt to keep the cells as long as possible by filling them with water.
At this point is when people notice their fat feels “squishy” or “chunky” or “dimpled” or….you get the picture.
As we stay consistent on our routines, our body has no choice but to relinquish the water and fat cells eventually and when it does, we experience the “whoosh” effect.
This can take a widely varied amount of time from person to person. My “whoosh clock” (for lack of a better term) runs 3 weeks to a month before resetting. It has run as long as 6 weeks depending on what type of exercise I do. If I am heavy lifting, it tends to run longer. I believe this is due to my sore muscles hoarding water as well!
When we take diet into consideration, things like sodium intake can cause variations in the Whoosh Clock’.

Searsh the woosh+water retention, it’s interesting. Do you keep a diary or chart? Each day I put an up or down arrow to show loss or gain, and a red dot to show no change. I know tha t I will need quite a few red dots to get to eight weeks, because you cant lose weight every day, so psychologically itelps to know the red dot days are important too!

Apologies for the wee typos, but I have zombie fingers today, and tablet doesnt recognise my finger taps. sigh.

Alos day nine and nine pound s down! Ah-may-zing!!!

Good research there, Odette, and much better than my simple explanation of ‘retained water’! 🙂
