Hi I’ve put this post in the welcome thread but I think i might get more replies if it’s here
I need to lose at least two stone for my health mainly. I know how crucial the first few weeks are in getting going with a diet and sticking to it and I need help and advice on getting started with it.

I was diagnosed with Gastro oesophageal reflux disease (GORD) and a hiatus hernia a year ago. I’m on 20 mg omeprazole daily. All the medical advice says to lose weight to reduce the GORD – somehow I’ve not been able to keep to a diet for more than a few weeks. – call me stubborn, stupid or what. I know I’m making my symptoms worse by not making an effort to shift the excess weight, not to mention the effect on my long term health and fitness. Perhaps I’ve come to rely on the medication and avoiding trigger foods to suppress the symptoms.
I want to try the fast 800/ BSD although I can’t do fasts because of the GORD just yet, maybe later.

I like a Mediterranean style diet and I’ve lost weight before on similar diets including WW. My big issue is I eat too much and I’m almost scared of eating less – like I might go too hungry – i know Its irrational thinking.

I think I am now ready to tackle the weight having got the medication sorted out and my triggers identified but I need help To get going so that I don’t drift off after a week or so.
    Thanks for reading. 😀

Welcome Ikeeptrying, you have excellent reasons to take action and it seems to me your biggest fear is being hungry. The carbs actually drive hunger, so by removing the bulk of them from your diet, after the initial settling in period hunger will almost become something of a stranger.

Do you have the Fast 800 book? If not I recommend getting it and reading cover to cover. Meanwhile as an initial start, try not to eat things like bread, potatoes, pasta, rice, cereals etc and avoid sweet stuff. Don’t be frightened of fats, these help you to feel full sooner, so opt for full fat yogurt for instance. The fat helps you to remain feeling sated for longer too. Good hydration is also essential, so be sure to drink plenty right from the off.

My OH has the same gastric issues as you and takes the same medication and dosage. He is not as strict as I am on eating the BSD way, but has definitely benefited from what discipline I manage to instil in this respect.

I recommend you joining in on the weekly thread ‘One Week at a Time ….’, as this thread is populated with newcomers and old hands, so there is much knowledge, experience, advice and support to tap into. You would be guaranteed a warm welcome there, so just dive in any time.

Finally, best wishes to you, hope you will soon be reporting great results.

    Thanks SunnyB
Your message inspires me to make a start. Can I ask if your husband does any fasts at all? I’m going to buy a notebook today and write my meals down and like you say, cut out carbs: bread cakes, etc. I’ll have a look at the week at a time thread too. I’m off out shopping now 😀

Glad you are inspired to make a start, Ikeeptrying. Even making relatively small changes will help.

No my husband definitely doesn’t fast, however, he does extend his overnight fast occasionally, which all helps.

Hope to see you on the weekly thread soon.
