Wendy is stuck in transit so has asked me to start up the new thread.

Welcome to everyone who enjoys starting a new week with no baggage from the week or weeks before. Every week is a new start so forget your past glitches, they are gone. If you are having a good week like I am so far, then this is another week to build on our successes. Sorry to be rushed but I am in the middle of cooking aubergine lasagne in my new air fryer but will be here to say hi to members old and new tomorrow.

Lets hope you are going to come and join us.

Hi everyone – where ever you are. Sorry my opening message was a bit short. I was asked out of the blue and glad to do it to keep this thread going.

There are always people here who are at various stages of various diets (BSD, Fast800, 5:2 etc) so lots of experience no matter which plan you are following. I personally am BSD all the way but just starting out from scratch. So if you are thinking of doing the BSD 8 week plan I would be happy to join you and maybe share some of my past experiences.

BTW the aubergine lasagne turned out great in only 10 minutes – all pre-cooked and just had to be layered up and put in the air fryer. Hubby said he found some spots that were not as hot as he would like. I had to take it out as it was bubbling and sizzling but should have turned down the temperature for another 5 mins. Learning.

Looks like I am the only one here this week. Day 3 of strict BSD and already lost 4 pounds which includes the weight loss from the weekend when I wasnt even being careful. Smoothie for breakfast, Spanish chorizo and chickpea soup for lunch and added in an Actimel which is only 13 cals and will be having my usual Wednesday night clear out the fridge omelette.

    Come and say hi.

Hello sunshine-girl, can I say hello. I am currently on the thread that goes for a longer period than a week as this helps with my long-term goals. I would like to join this one too to keep my weeks’ on track ๐Ÿ˜ƒ
Congratulations, 4lb is a great weight loss. Between now and next Tuesday my aim is to lose 1.5lb. Yesterday I was out and didn’t count very strictly, today is an 800 day and so far I have had tuna mayo and cucumber, a small amount of cheese and coffee with cream. 9g carb. Dinner not planned yet but probably soup. Here’s to a great rest of week.

    Hi SG ๐Ÿ˜
I am definitely noticing that as the weather gets colder and with avoiding putting on the heating as I get colder I want to eat more. Anyone else found the same?

Sorry cant answer that from personal exp. Just got out of a very cold pool although it is still quite warm here. I do know that more food is what your body craves to keep it warm. you can be a big snuggly bear ready to hibernate – I think that has something to do with it.

    Hi everyone.
Thanks SG for keeping the thread going. Things are still very busy here with a few challenges !
We had the great idea of taking the train to Bordeaux Airport to pick up my brother flying in from Birmingham last Friday. Despite allowing loads of time we didn’t expect a 3 hour delay on Ryanair which meant we missed the last train back home…ran out of options and ended up spend the night at the airport ๐Ÿ™„. Not good with a hubby who has just had a knee replacement. We considered getting a hotel but didn’t think the massive expense with transport and accommodation was feasible. Ho hum..got the first bus out of the airport at 5am and train back home at 6.30 !
We survived! Hopefully the return journey next week will be smooth !

We dropped off my brother in a region called the Gers where he is helping out on a retreat for cancer patients. It’s a beautiful setting and very very peaceful.
So sorry I was not able to post on Monday.
I did have a wobbly at the end of September but back to my routine now. We were invited to lunch at the retreat on Monday..gorgeous, healthy macrobiotic food but it did include chickpeas and brown rice which I had not eaten for about 3 years. It was all beautifully prepared with lovely spices and flavours. No sugar, no fruits,no bread on the menu but certainly some carbs.
It is tempting to think that these foods are healthy and clean and maybe for those with no weight issues it is ok but we know about the effect on blood sugar.
So there we are..we know what works so on we go.
Have a great week everyone xx

    hi everyone,
It’s good to be here. I am on week 2 of the very fast 800…last week I lost 2lb, but this week static so far. I’m sticking to the plan though, counting macros, very minimal carbs, and trying to hold my resolve! Seeing people report huge losses, but then only having a tiny shift/no shift is somewhat demotivating though – I’ve been through the common pitfalls, and I don’t think I’m overconsuming/underexercising. Not in any way wishing to diminish the success of others, but do results come more slowly when you are closer to your ‘healthy weight’ goal, versus when you have a lot of weight to lose? I’ve struggled for years to shift an excess 5-6kg – I know I must do it though…cardiovascular disease, high cholesterol and other lifestyle related diseases are very common in my family. I rewatched the horizon documentary this weekend – so for now I’m trying to stay focussed on the health related outcomes. Anyone else experienced an early plateau, despite apparently doing all the right things? If so, I’d love to hear from you!

Hi all, Im still having success with the BSD plan. Since I said I wanted to lose a stone in 8 weeks I have manage 6lbs in 4, so still on track. Now I am fully back on the 800 cals I hope that it will be more than a stone.

Welcome to chocolatemonster. I think the problem you are having is you have already lost weight and this is your last 5 or 6 kilos which are always so difficult to get rid of. 2 reasons, your body is so used to being on a diet it isnt happy to let go of any weight. Sometimes you have to give it a shake up. Change the foods you eat, change the exercises you are doing – eat a bit less, exercise a bit more. Or just accept it is going to take you a bit longer. I always suggest it is counterproductive to make yourself miserable so trying to eat more might not be a good idea. You say you are on minimal carbs but it would be helpful to know what these carbs are. They might be just the wrong thing right now. Have a think about it.

The people you are comparing yourself with have maybe started the diet 20 or 30 kgs over their goal weight and it is not unusual for them to lose say 5 or 6 lbs in the first week, then 3 or 4 in second week, with it then slowing down and maybe having a short plateau at week 3. That is when they go off the diet because they dont think it is working. I have been doing the BSD for over 6 years and lost around 13 lbs in the first 8 week run, so not a big loser. 6 years on I am around 2 stone lighter than I was and now aiming for another stone before Christmas. I dont always stick to the calories strictly but, as a diabetic, I just dont eat simple carbs.

Stick with it and stick with us. There is always someone who has had the same problems/results/worries etc.

Here again, still doing well. For me it is determination and when I put my mind to it I have loads of it. Just about to dip under another kilo marker. Only 4 lbs to get to my lowest ever (on this diet) weight before I went off on a cruise and gained half a stone which has been a bugger to shift since then. The weekend is upon us and I am going to crack this without any veering off plan. Hopefully by Monday I will be another half a kilo down.

    Hi everyone,
I’m going through one of my busiest times of year (garlic planting, farm clean up before winter, etc.), so not on very much right now. I have been trying to take better care of myself though. I was skipping so many meals and then ending up eating erratically and craving all the wrong things. I’ve come to the conclusion that even through busy periods, I need to take breaks, have a proper meal and a little sit down. I’m finding it hard mentally to take time to sit during daylight hours when the days are starting to close in and I don’t have as many hours in which to get things done. However, I am finding that it is having a beneficial effect on my energy levels and my mood. I might even be a bit quicker at getting tasks done as a result. I’m definitely not dragging my butt to get things done like I was.
Anyway, break is over and I’m off to plant more garlic. First 400 cloves are in, so only 1200 or so more to go!

    Hi All,

SG, Wendy, SunnyB…..I am incredibly grateful that between you, there is always a one week at a time thread…..I don’t always chip in, because of life stresses…..but I do really appreciate it…

These last 2 or 3 weeks have been really tough with 2 out of 3 of my children struggling with school stress, fatigue etc, at the same time as me increasing my hours and responsibilities at work….I am not really feeling too good because of it….and certainly I find a knock on effect on my eating….

however, I am still working my way through the obesity code book, which I hope is going to get me in the right mindset….I think I will read one of MMs more recent books straight after to get the links in my brain again as to how these things match up…

    Love to all xxxxx

Hello all and hi to lovely Tulip. We are always here for you even when you are not up to posting. Real life is tough and, because I go through all this with my daughter and now 5 grandchildren (2 + 3 a blended family) I know what you are going through. I do it ‘virtually’ online but know about the worries and trials.

Arcticfox, what do you do with all that garlic – do you sell it. I have tried and failed. Do you use supermarket cloves or buy special. I heard the ones in the supermarket can be sterile so not suitable for planting out. Any hints and tips please.

Well we have another real surprise with our weather. Today it is 25 degrees. I would get in the pool but I have just washed my hair. Still thinking about it though – might wear a shower cap ๐Ÿ™‚ During the next few days we are going to have 29 and 30 degrees so will definitely be swimming even though the water is now down to 19. Brrrrrrrr. Funny thing is I love it more than I do in the heat of summer. When it is 35 to 40 degrees a pool at 27 can feel cold in comparison so it doesnt really make a difference. Except I think the cold water is better for you.

Didnt win the EuroMillions again so will still be around. Enjoy your weekend.

    Hi everyone,
I’m on another quick break. It is local election day here, so I have to go and vote once I’ve got the horses fed. Planted another 400 cloves of garlic today, and I’m starting to feel it and I’m pretty tired. Once I get it all planted, I’m hoping to have some more time to get back into my yoga routine and try some foam rolling. I’m struggling with fluid retention again, which does make me think again that I have lipedema, although very challenging to get a diagnosis here and we don’t have any specialists that I could get my gp to refer me to.
S-g – yes I sell the garlic, although I have been trying to build up my seed stock so I hold back quite a bit for replanting each year. I started out purchasing garlic from a local supplier, but now I have enough of my own that I don’t need to purchase any more. Supermarket garlic is often quite old, so it might not be in great shape for planting, and sometimes they treat it to stop it from sprouting. If you can find some local garlic, that should work for planting.
I’ll see how sales go next year. I think 1600 may be my limit for planting by myself. It takes me an hour to get 100 in, so 16 hours of planting in one week seems quite enough. Although as I get my soil in better shape, it should get easier and quicker. We’ve been very dry this fall, so my silty soil is pretty much like concrete at the moment. Luckily we had 20 mm of rain in September, so I was able to fill my rainwater tanks from that. This is the first year ever that I’ve had to water the garlic after planting. So far I’ve used 1200 L, so one full tank. I’ve put down a layer of composted horse manure and mulched with straw over top to try to help keep the moisture in, and it will provide a bit of extra insulation for winter.

Hi everyone. As we wrap up this week I must say that I wandered well off track this week. Meals out with carby foods. And the weather here has been wet and cool – and there have been devastating floods throughout country Victoria. And yes ElleMae – the cold weather makes me more inclined to search out food!
So – this coming week I hope to be more focused. I am working four evenings this week, which means having dinner at 4pm – and then I have to try to not snack out when I get home 9:30ish.
Good to see you Articfox. Your garlic planting sounds a mammoth task – so taking proper sit down lunch breaks etc will help keep you going strong.
Thanks for keeping us going Wendy, SG, and Sunny. Glad you made it home Wendy – a night in an airport is never fun!
Hi chocolatemonster. I do think that when you have a smaller amount to lose it can be harder to make significant shifts. For me I really need to watch the carbs and keep them low (20g per day) in order to start loosing. I use an app to track foods and carb levels.
Hi Bloke41 – you had an amazing journey – and you will keep the carbage out of your life for good now. You know how much better you feel.๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ
Keep going Tulip! Your life is so busy!

Hi all, still feeling poorly with Covid and still testing positive, but trying to do a little bit more every day.
Last night was the first night I actually had any enthusiasm for cooking or eating, just had some pork tenderloin and salad for supper but it went down well.
I did weigh last week, and had ~ stayed the same from the previous non-covid week.
I will focus on getting my strength back before knuckling down – I am not eating badly, no carbs, but not eating well either if that makes sense.
Hoping for a better week ahead ๐Ÿ™‚

hi all, week 3 for me – I’m only down around 0.8kg from my starting weight, which feels fairly disappointing given the effort, and hunger that I have endured! Fingers crossed for a little more progress this week. I have injured my hip, so have reduced down from being VERY active, to fairly sedentary while it heals. Perhaps that has something to do with the slow progress.
I’ve done some meal prep – I made a delicious cauliflower and white bean soup from the fast 800 recipe book for my lunches…I have been making my own soups for a while now, but I had no idea how creamy and substantial blending up some white beans can make it! I made a mushroom, leek and creme fraiche mixture for my evening meal, to be served with broccoli and string beans on the side.
If anyone has any great soup recipes, send them over – now the weather is turning, I much prefer a warm lunch.
Good luck everyone for the week ahead!

Hi everyone, thought I was going to have to say bye bye to you all as I havent been able to get on the site for a couple of days. Some error 1001 and not attached to Cloudforce. Blah blah blah, no idea. Just happy to be back.

Dont be too disappointed chocolatemonster. Today I weight 0.1 kg heavier than last Monday having lost 0.7kg up to Friday. As long as I know it is not something I have done to scupper things I am sure it will sort itself out.

Had a 40 minute cold swim yesterday and hoped that would help with loss. Anyway, still here, still determined and I WILL succeed.
