Just dropping by to wish a successful BSD week to one and all. I know Wendy will be there to talk sense and offer encouragement as necessary, she’s an inspiration and her experience is invaluable. Not sure when or if I’ll get back on the weekly thread this week, but hope many will be joining Wendy here.

Hi Everyone – hope you’ve all had a successful few weeks. I’m back to it again. Here’s my update…

Weeks 11 and 12: I took a break for 2 weeks and gained 5.5lbs (net loss is now 12lbs). That’s about what I’d expect for water gain as I was back on carbs and similar to my last break, so I’m happy with that. I was pleased that I didn’t eat in between meals during these 2-weeks.

Now I’m back for another 3-week stint. Dreading this week – I’ve felt horrible the last 2 times I’ve stopped carbs. I’m just hoping my body will have got used to it a bit and be forgiving this time!

I have 10lbs to go to hit my target weight, which is about 12 weeks ahead at my current rate of loss of 4lbs every 5 weeks.

    ————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————
    Progress log:
    Cycle 1:
Weeks 1-4: Lost 12.5lb starting at 800 cals per day for the first week and then 1150 cals after that as I was struggling on 800. Regular runs – 5 days a week. Horrendous ‘carb flu’ for the first week and terrible running that turned into walks and got a little more back to normal by the end of the stint.
Weeks 5-7: 3-week break – gained 4.5 lbs eating normally
    Total loss: 8lbs

    Cycle 2:
Weeks 8-10: Lost 9.5lbs. 1150 cals per day low carb. Again horrible ‘carb-flu’ and terrible running throughout, but kept it up 5 days a week.
Weeks 11 and 12: Gained 5.5lbs during a 2-week break eating normally. Did not eat in between meals.
Total loss: 12lbs (extra 4lbs lost this cycle)

    hello friends
I’m in for another week….actually at least another eight, as I’ve just realised that it’s my birthday in just over eight weeks and it will be late Spring here; a great motivation to maybe go away to the coast somewhere for a weekend and feel comfy and confident in my bathers!!

Waitaminut-I look forward to meeting up when you’re back in Hobart -and together with you, Wendy when you get back here! (so many things to look forward to post pandemic!

I’m finally over my horrid gastro bug.Last Sunday was Father’s day here so we had a gathering with the boys (plus partners and one granddaughter) that live here in Tas (the other three are all in Vic 🙁 ) . Food was pretty BSD friendly but wine was drunk…..I remain grateful that we all love each others’ company, so happy for that to be an aberration

About to make miso soup for lunch (need to restore the good gut flora!!) and plotting a possible fast this week (my main challenge is tea without (soy) milk….but I can do it!!!

Thanks for the new week Wendy. 🌺🌹🌻 I have been a bit quiet ! Lacking a bit of motivation – although there are so many things I could be doing around home during lockdown (oven cleaning or window washing anyone?!). Pottering in the garden (although not today as it is windy and rainy) – and planning a chicken with peppercorns meal for tonight. Scales hover up and down the same couple of pounds.
Have a lovely holiday Sunny. I envy your trip to Turkey! I have just booked a weeks holiday in December in regional Victoria – so hoping that will eventuate.
Hi EC – the birthday goal is a good one. You can do it!
Good going Jeremy – hope your carbs withdrawal goes OK.

    Hi all,
Wow look at that list of people, great to see so many of us.
Enjoy your time in Turkey Sunny, what a fantastic holiday that would be.
I was tempted to weigh myself this morning but didn’t, I think if I see a number that I’m happy with, I might get the carb devils in my head telling me it’s ok to have a little something thats not good for me, so I’ll leave it till we come back home on Sunday.
I did good yesterday, stayed low carbish.
Haven’t eaten as yet and I’m not hungry so up till now its 18 hours since I ate.
I’ll try to push through till dinner time at around 6:30 ..which is going to be fish and salad for me with added chips for hubby🙄 ..
Some gorgeous parrots have just landed in the bird feeder and are shoving the crested pigeons, (who I might add got there first) out of the way.
Stay safe, happy and healthy 😊🖐️

Hi peeps and thank you for the thread.
I’ve been quiet too…. been mindful and doing fairly well, just not as rigorous as i had hoped. But yesterday was a spot on day and I’m feeling good.
I will commit to posting on here every day for the week – even at the weekend when i tend to have less screen time. That should help me keep on track and remain accountable as well as hopefully helping the thread to be busy. If i miss a day or two of posting i tend to feel out of the chat and like i have nothing to contribute…. I know i would be very welcome but sometime struggle for something to say. LOL So I will pop in every day and do more than read.

I have to mention ….. as an aside…. the joy of egg wraps…… versatile little critters are a new fav in my world….. I’ve done smoked salmon and cream cheese, chicken fajita, tuna salad, pulled pork…… just as good as any carb created wrap but full of goodness, and quick to make!

Waitaminute – “parrots on the bird feeder” – I love that!! So tropical! Beats a chaffinch hands down! Though we do get some nice little garden birds – siskins and red polls, plus the occasional woodpecker or even badger (not that thats a bird but they like the dropped seeds) it is not quite as exciting as wild parrots!

Hi all, Thank you for setting up a new week Wendleg. I had a reasonably good week eating wise, and have consolidated the discard of my corona kilos. But no further towards my healthy weight. I am hoping that there will be a kilo change this week and am sticking at it. Every time I read a post by ClarinetCathy, I feel remotivated to carry on! Have a good week everyone.

    Hi all,
I’m back in the swing of things of getting back to basic after a summer of what I must admit could be counted as maintenance. Managed to drop a kilo over the last week. For me it comes down to doing a food plan for the week, regular exercise and to resist the temptations of the weekends. It helps that partner and I decided on a “white” September ( no alcohol). It was actually his idea after watching MMs “Drop a stone in 4 weeks” 😊.
I’m doing 16:8 on most days (delayed breakfast) or 18:6 (skipping breakfast) and aspire to do a 24 h fast per week if I can. Would love to do longer but not there mentally yet. Have 8 kg to go to my target. Would love for that to be in time for Christmas, but who knows.
In other words, life in the shadow of Covid19 goes on. Here in Sweden we never really locked down. Schools for the ages up to 15 have remained open all along. Most people who can have been and are working from home (me included), and those 70+ are really quite isolated. As we didn’t lock down, there is also no opening up – we just keep going. Have only seen my parents (70+) twice since January. It’s hard on them and us. Keeping my fingers crossed for a vaccine, but am guessing it will be well into next year before that is in place.
Would be interesting to hear how others are living your daily life these days – still restricted or a bit back to normal?
@jeremy, will be interesting to hear your progress this week, if it gets easier to restart. I think it’s an interesting model you are setting up, but it’s only for those with a really strong mind I think, as it would be easy (for me) to be derailed when putting the weight back on every couple of weeks.
@windyjulz – it’s always nice to read your updates, so don’t think you have nothing to contribute. To me it seems like you have found a sustainable approach to this WOE, so very valuable.
A good week to you all!

Hi everyone and thanks Wendy for the thread. Had a bit of a blip and gained one pound but not too worried in the main things are going well. Exactly one week today I go to the doctor for my 3 month check up and I am at least 2 kg lighter than last time so he should be pleased. Blood tests this Friday so no cheating at all. Hoping for good results for HbA1c an cholesterol. Next week I might go out for that meal I have been promising (or is it threatening) for the last 2 months but never got there yet. Have a good week.

    Olive…
I don’t get worried about the gains because mentally I never think of myself as having lost all the weight – I always add about 5lbs to it when I’m low carb knowing I’ve lost about that in water which goes straight back on when you come off the diet. It’s only fat loss that’s important.

I do worry a little when people are so happy when they lose so much in the first week, because not a lot of it is fat. On the other hand it’s nice for people to have a boost of such a great first week. Best really to start counting the real amount lost from week 2 onwards.

Similarly, when people come off the diet they need to recognise they’ll put 5lbs back on and that’s not their fault. It’s not fat gain. And they mustn’t get demoralised by that.

We’re back after a few weeks away! Just starting week 12 of our first foray into this WoE, and overall it’s going great: I have lost 25lbs, Mrs Kev has lost 43lbs. Way above our expectations, I’m determined to hit 2 stone by the time the 12 weeks are up. Mrs K is way ahead of where she thought she’d be, so anything this week will be gravy.

We had a couple of iffy weeks back in August where we went on holiday – both gained over a 2-week period, but it came back off over the following 2 weeks. Our plan so far is to complete the 12 weeks, have 1 week on 5:2, possibly 2 weeks if we don’t gain, and then do another 12 weeks of the F800. We still suffer from cravings, me in particular. Just yesterday I had a spoonful of honey and a handful of dry Shreddies, but by and large we’re on track. We set ourselves goals and rewards – when Mrs K hit her 2 stone, we celebrated with fish & chips, and when I get there it’ll be a visit to Krispy Kreme. Provided we treat it as a one-off, we haven’t gained so far in those weeks.

One thing I have been doing more of is eating apples – having berries and yoghurt when I needed a pudding just felt like too many calories, and a few apples a weeks seems good in comparison. I also have the occasional mug of Bovril, and I’m curious whether Options or another low-fat hot chocolate made with water is something I could use to kill my sweet cravings. It’s only 40 cals per mug, although I know it does have sugar in it. Would be good to know what others think!

Kev, dont know about weight but I had an Options hot chocolate the other night – was still awake at 3 am and just needed something. It sent my blood glucose sky high and it has taken me 4 days to get it back to the level it was before.

    Hi everyone !
Jeremy I wouldn’t want to put myself through the carb flu each time as you mentioned. What is it that you are still missing ? What is ‘eating normally’ for you now ?
Do you think you will be able to manage the carbs when you get to target ?

Hi EC ! It will be lovely to have a trip to look forward to ..and especially in the Spring. We are away for 5 days next week ( I’ll be around to set up the new thread !) and September is usually still pleasant here. Glad you are over the nasty bug and all the best for this week and your birthday goal.

Hi Merry ! You are one of our motivators so don’t let us down now 😉 Planning for your December trip is a good target and you have Spring to enjoy there ! I know you will soon be buzzing with enthusiasm again !

Hi Butterlover.I hope your grandson is not causing too much hip pain now. Yes it would be a good plan to cut out the late night snacking.Sounds like it’s an established habit and those are devils to break. Can you find a distracting activity ? I have been knitting tawashis ( eco alternative to washing up scouring sponges !)

How is ULURU , Waitaminute ? Yes, I agree, not weighing is a good plan and it sounds as if you have cracked the TRE and fasting stretches. Love the image of the parrots ! I get regular bird photos from my son and they are stunning

Hi caronl ! It’s always good to see you ! You always get your mojo back too !

Julz you always have something to contribute as Olive says ! Just reading the posts and saying Hi is ok so I don’t get worried ( AMZ, ROSYAPPLE and even my buddy ECLECTIC RAJISTANI have gone quiet ) Please come back

Olive, I am lucky not to be going to work and can choose where I go and who I am likely to meet . We are still cautious.Being away from a big town feels more reassuring. Schools went back last week here in France but the situation seems a bit volatile. Definitely not back to normal as such but adapting… It must be tough not seeing your parents. No family visits this summer but we keep in touch as best we can.

You will be fine for your doctor’s appointment, SG. You are very focused and unlikely to be be derailed. You know what you are doing.I hope your daughter continues her downward trend. We haven’t been out for meals here for ages …but Thursday is hubby’s birthday and we have booked a local restaurant for a small group. They know me so I can discuss the menu  Hope you find a nice eatery for next week. We will be exploring the Dordogne and as many villages and markets as we can fit in !

WOW Kev and Mrs Kev, great results both !! No, as SG has mentioned, I wouldn’t advise the Options type drinks which are highly processed .I would definitely stay clear of any artificial sweetners which will spike your insulin and mess up your blood sugar It would be better to work on managing or ideally eliminating the carb cravings.A square of something like Very Very Dark choc ? I would also make an apple an occasional treat too , Kev even though that sounds harsh. Think long term carb management Kev.

Keep going everyone and check in when you can !

Mr and Mrs Kev. Huge well done. You put me to shame – over double my loss for Mr and 4x for Mrs – in the same time.

Wendy – My goal is to eat normal meals when I hit my target weight and not eat in between meals. So just normal levels of carb you’d find in an average meal. I managed 4 months like this between November and February. I didn’t lose weight, but didn’t gain weight either.

    Hi all,
Wow well done Mr and Mrs Kev😊👍👍
Julz, the parrots are so beautiful. They rule the roost (excuse the pun 😂) all the other birds scatter and wait up in a tree until the parrots have their fill before coming back down to eat. We’ve had a few galahs showing up too in the last couple of weeks.
A badger would be quite welcome here, they would save me having to clean up the fallen seeds from the verandah.😊😊
Your egg wraps sound delicious I might give those a go, thank you for reminding me about those.
Wendleg we don’t go to Uluru until Friday, I wish I could put photos on here because I’d have some amazing pics when we come home I’m sure.
I haven’t eaten since 6:30 last night, it’s now 1pm and I’m a bit hungry so I might finish off the left over salad ..
Stay safe, healthy and happy 😊🖐️

I love how diverse the world is (and also that a Galah is a real thing that actual people see….. feels very abstract sitting in my little corner of Scotland!)
As promised I am checking in every day. Yesterday was pretty good, all on plan except the handful of grapes after dinner. I ahve 2 good lazy lunches for when Im at work and can nip to the supermarket at lunchtime. One is a packet of tender-stem broccoli microwaved and then with a little seasoning and soft cheese stirred in and some chicken breast chunks in there. Second is asda’s microwaveable veg rice (basically cauliflower, broccoli rice with some carrot i think) again with some soft cheese ad chicken. Apart from making the kitchen smell of broccoli it makes for a pretty good lunch and is quick. So that was yesterday, with a mixed salad for dinner and some yogurt with berries.
I have lunch out today – thats novel – will only be the second one since March…. but its a cafe i know, which has really good salads so i am confident I know what I’m having. Easy choices there. Dinner will have to involve chicken as its sitting the the fridge waiting……

What are peoples thoughts on butternut squash? too carby? Something for an occasional treat?

    Hi everyone !
Jeremy you sound very clear on your maintenance and we really do have to find what works for us. What has worked for me is not to feel deprived of anything because the alternative choices are actually better….but that didn’t happen overnight ! 😉
It does seem unreasonable to say that apples, butternut squash etc are not on plan but I would see that as short term while keeping cals and carbs low on 800. MM and his wife discuss moving on to a Mediterranean style diet long term and obviously that would include some grains, chickpeas, sweet potatoes, squash etc. I think if diabetes is not an issue then in moderation veg like that would be ok. I admit I tend to go for green leafy veg and lettuce given the choice.
Enjoy your lunch, Julz. We have a restaurant lunch tomorrow but they are used to me and my preferences !
OOH Waitaminute…your Uluru trip will be amazing , I am sure.
    Where is Lily ?

you can post photos on this forum, I’ve done it before.

    Here is the instruction:
Make sure your image is somewhere online, I recommend anonymous, we’ve used https://imgbb.com/
In your text, put some HTML around the URL (the thing that starts with http or https, the location of your picture.) Put

    <img src=”

before and ” /> after the URL.

Then post your reply and if all is well, you can see the picture.
Hope you understand, if not I’ll try to explain with some examples.

Hi all, very pleased I have lost half a pound which is half of my gain. Jeremy it is good that you feel you can dip in and out of the diet and even adding some carbs. I have always said if it were not for my diabetes I would indulge now and then but I do know what they do to my BG. There can be a downside to carb indulgence besides having to go through the carb flu (and I am not aiming this at Jeremy just a general point) and that is the hunger it brings and the hunger for more carbs. Which is what made us fat. Daughter had friends over at the weekend and they had a barbeque. Daughter had steak and lots of salad and roast veg while her partner took it as an excuse to stuff his face with bread. Next day daughter has lost 1 lb partner has gained 5. Not just that but he is struggling to get back on plan as he is craving bread. We all know that is how carbs work but every now and then a small roll with a meal out does no harm. Just no stuffing your face and get back on track without them.
Had 40 mins in the pool yesterday. Determined to enjoy it while the weather holds out even if the pool water is bl—dy freezing right now. Have a good week all.

    Hi all,

Been away for while busy settling my daughter back into school she is autistic and suffers from anxiety so have been busy.
Like to report this diet is going well started after watching lose a stone in three weeks on the tv.

After 3 weeks did not lose a stone but very happy to say lost 10lbs! Now in over a month loss is a stone I even celebrated sharing a bottle of red wine with husband on August bank holiday it did not throw me off the rails and I lost weight that week.

I just struggle fitting in a bit more exercise and balancing that with the needs of my daughter which can be challenging at times but since I have stopped the carbs I do feel a lot calmer.

    keep going every one !!!!

Many thanks for the warm welcome on last weeks thread! I have read all the posts but didn’t find time to reply and suddenly we have a new week!

After three days of 14:10 and carefully registrering my food intake I felt ready to restart 800 and 16:8 again last Thursday. It’s going pretty well. Some hunger pangs and sleep disruption, but that was expected.

My plan for this week is simply to continue 800 and 16:8.

    Have a great week everyone!

    Re ‘Carb’ indulgence
What I’m aiming to do for maintenance have standard meals including carbs and not eat in between meals. I did this for 4 months at the start of the year and was able to do this reasonably easily. The last 2 weeks were also fine doing this – no hunger pangs.

I do not feel ‘normal’ when I’m not eating carbs. In my last cycle, as well as my running being awful, I was getting these very strange light-headed ‘pulses’ every now and again, which I put down to low sugar levels in my blood. I expect that if I hung on in there and my body improved at fat burning that I’d be fine long term, but I think I’d just prefer to work on a long term programme including a good balanced diet including healthy carbs.

Having said that – I’ve lost weight in the past and just put it back on, so I know it’s not going to be easy to keep it off this time!

On a positive note I haven’t had ‘carb flu’ yet, and I’m 3 days in. Perhaps my body is adjusting!

    Hi all
Have been loving the bird themes! We don’t get the brightly coloured lorikeets that NSW and Qld do but plenty of green parrots and the magnificent (if somewhat ubiquitous) yellow tailed black cockatoos, the occasional grey goshawks and for a splash of colour the lovely New Holland honeyeaters….(WindyJulz, I’m sure you have birds that we don’t -I do remember being utterly charmed by the Canadian Loons when we visited (they even name one of their coins a “loony”!!)

Waitaminute-you will love Uluru. We were there six or seven years ago, and (despite my heat intolerance) had a glorious time…..it really reminds you what an ancient country this is. Do go a little “off track” if you can. We were returning from an overnight walk at Kings Canyon (Giles track) and took a side dirt road to discover some sand dunes where, for the next two nights we had a totally private viewing platform across Ulura and Katajuka (with a full moon to top it off!). The guided walk around the base of Uluru and the “Valley of the Winds” walk are both brilliant. My only regret is that we didn’t do the camel ride at sunset (maybe a next time….)

Petiketo-good on you for “caring for the carer” so that you’re in the best space to look after your daughter!

Family birthday here last night (ie bedlam!) but not much off plan….have three days “wriggle room” before the seriously strict eight weeks prior to the birthday goal-I’ve been treading water somewhat since my initial 8-12 week loss, but feel as if I’ve established a new “set weight” so ready to go down further!!

have a great run to the weekend all

Hi all, well what news about UK homes having a maximum of 6. That puts my Christmas visit into touch as with the kids there are already 7 at my daughters. It is another wait and see situation. Talking of kids, one of them has been sent home from school with a dry cough (happens all the time as she is a bit of a drama queen and always has something – kids do) and to be safe they have sent home the other 4 and told them to get tested. Unfortunately, they cant find anywhere to go for testing. Birmingham area?????
Had a small loss again but too small to even measure it i.e. 0.1 kg. Had 40 mins in the pool and we are heading for a heatwave this weekend – already 31 today – so will be back in the pool later. Would hate to waste this opportunity even though I dont always feel like it.
Well thats my news for today – keep on keeping on…

Sunshine Girl- try the covid testing site at different times of day- I’ve had to book one for my eldest as she has a high temp- none anywhere yesterday until evening….they put new ones on then and also thru the morning. Test is this morning.

Hiya all, I held my weight steady on my 2 week hol so I am happy with that….I’m playing around with the diet, having more calories than 800 most days but sticking mostly to the BSD guidelines (I’ve lost 2/3 of what I need to get to the top of my normal BMI and my body is just asking for a bit more, and I don’t mind if this bit is a little slower) …I’ve tried the apple and cinnamon porridge this week, yum!! As my usual chia seeds, yoghurt and fruit was getting a bit cold for the weather and our cottage gets cold when it isn’t full summer!!!

    Love to all xxx

    Hi everyone !
Petiteketo you have made a great start, and that’s brilliant considering you have your daughter’s needs to consider. Well done on balancing everything. It can’t be easy.

Yes, hope all is going well for you this week SunnySideUp ! I found it became natural not to have breakfast after a while.

All the best for your next phase and count down to your birthday EC ! I remember the kookaburras in Tas !! In fact we were just fascinated by everything ! Glad you enjoyed the family birthday.Hubby had a celebration with a small group of friends yesterday and the restaurant indulged our requirements ! More and more of our friends are getting onboard with low carb too.

Yes SG I immediately thought of you when the Uk rule of 6 was announced. As long as you can safely travel to the Uk you can adjust and hopefully see your family members on separate occasions.I think you would be devastated if you couldn’t go.We expect a quiet time here, no plans to visit the Uk for now. At least we still have some fine September days ahead of us and we don’t project too far ahead for travel just yet.

Hope your daughter is Ok , Tulip. The testing situation is unsettling for sure.

Sunny is safely In Turkey and is stocking their appartment with lovely fresh food from the market. She will check in when she can.
I hope everyone is ok xxx

    Hi Sunshine-girl,

I would suggest waiting a while before deciding what to do about Christmas and visits to family. – I think the English Government have done a knee jerk reaction that its difficult to police the rules on numbers of households that can meet, so change to 6 people and don’t count the households. Its easy to see a group of people, count the number of heads and say you are in or are breaking the rules in comparison to trying to police the current rules. To give an example for the benefit of people outside the UK, currently in Wales a household can be a part of an extended household. – You select up to 3 other households to form your extended household and your are allowed to meet up indoors at each others properties or stay under the same roof in a holiday let or meet up together in a resturant without having to social distance. – You have to stick to the same extended household arrangements, you cant change and meet up socially with people from any other household. – But there is no system for recording who is in an extended household. – So how is it supposed to be policed? In England you could form a “bubble” with another household, and 2 bubbles could socialise together at any time. And you each bubble could meet up with different bubbles on different occasions. ———– Its been a complete mess with county councils having to give advice to businesses to just work on trust that people are complying with the rules.

There are lots of questions circulating at present on how this rule change in England and Scotland to 6 people from 6 households at any one time works. – And in particular what happens about the frequency when you can meet up with a different 6 people.

What happens if you have a hotel or B and B and multiple rooms are booked by different households in the same extended family, or if you have a holiday let business with multiple cottages on the same site, – As long as you are in a group of 6 people and there is 2 meters between yourselves and the next group of 6 people you are complying with the rules, and if there are no rules on the length of time between each social gathering then you can swap tables and circulate between the different groups of 6 as often as you like. in an evening.

I suspect that right now there are some stressed out civil servants trying to answer the question on how to police the issue of a large group circulating between themselves in a way which can be implemented in pubs and restaurants and hotels without forcing a closure again of all these businesses. So don’t despair yet about meeting your family at Christmas. It may simply be that you have to book to stay in the same hotel, or complex of holiday cottages as each other instead of staying in each others homes.

Quick check in for me. I had a bit of a bad day all round on Wednesday and the the result was chips and biscuits……. properly lost control of myself. Feel like my head has been in a wobbly place for a while (I think since anxiety in norway when i had no control of food) and this was it coming to a head after a horrid day.
So, I got myself together and did a long fast yesterday and I’m keeping it going today. Really just to get control, get my head back in the game and try and reduce anxiety around hunger. I actually feel great now I’m 38 hours in. I know this isnt the way for everyone but I’ve been doing a lot of reading on fasting and I hope it helps with a few other things too.

    Hope your all doing well.

    Hi Julz
Just wanted to send you a bit of support. I understand the need to get control back after your wobbly day and fasting can be a useful strategy for that as long as it is not constantly used for damage limitation. Try not to get anxious about hunger , Julz.Welcome the sensation…nothing bad will happen. Prepare your delicious , healthy meal and relish the thought that you will enjoy it because you are truly hungry .
You know that chips and biscuits will do nothing to raise your mood consistently. They are not your friends ! I know I have said this before !!! Trust yourself Julz. You really have done brilliantly and there is no need to panic.

Hi, please can I join the group. I started on the 7th Sept and this is week 1 for me, I have over 17kg to lose. I’ve not felt too bad this week as it’s week 1 – no signs of the carb flu as yet – I’m sure it will appear. Hopefully I can keep to 800 cals for a month and then reassess depending on how much I’ve got left to lose. Hope everyone else has had a good week!

Hi everyone, only good news here is weight is down again – quarter pound each day. Tulip1 thanks for the advice. It was the childrens mother needing the Covid testing station but it wasnt that they were full, there just werent any at all. She did eventually drive 50 miles for a test. Results take 48 hours so should know by tomorrow.
JGwen you suggest not making plans for Christmas but we have to think well in advance. We have 3 cats that need caring for and we had to search for a sitter – normally that is near impossible for Christmas as most people want to be at home. As it turned out we had several applications from Europeans who didnt want to go too far (we have a Spanish couple coming). Also, if you are not booked on a ferry by now then you have no chance. They cancelled 2 of our crossings but we have, we hope, a firm date.
Wendleg, you say to be flexible and see the family on separate occasions. We have changed our booking so we are there for 15 days not 13 so we can do the full quarantine. Daughter and family agreed to isolate with us. Now if we go over and stay somewhere else we still cannot go an visit them as there are already 7 in the family and we cant ask any of them to go out while we visit as there are 5 children. It would be a very sad holiday for us to be trapped in a hotel and just pop round. We stay with them or we cancel. We are holding onto all our arrangements for now in case the number of positives improves and Boris relaxes the rules in the next couple of months. It will not be the end of the world if we have to cancel but we still have our fingers crossed.
I was at the laboratory this morning for my blood test and hope to have the results any time now. Will report back in and not mention Christmas again.

Welcome fattystar, glad you ahve been feeling ok, you will learn to love this way of eating. Good target to get through the month then reassess! Lots of support here for you.

Thanks Wendy, I knew as i was eating them that it was not actually going to help and that any pleasure was lost by the inevitable feeling of sluggishness and guilt. I rationally know that hungry is ok and not to be nervous of….. but somehow my subconscious had forgotten it. The fast has been exactly what i needed to re-calibrate, get the focus away from “treats” and to help me not think about food every minute of the day. Hopefully i am back on track. Hoping to break fast tomorrow lunchtime with some soup and then enjoy evening meal with my dad and hubby. I think it’ll be roast chicken and veggies.
the support and understanding, as always, is much appreciated.

    🙂

    Hi all,
Lovely to read all the posts.
Radio silence, as full on return to schools for the children and myself! Covid teaching is different and challenging. Masks are being worn in communal areas and reckon I’ll be made to do this next week but whatever helps. Mostly I’ve been good BSD I have now lost a total of 15 pounds in 6.5 weeks. I have had the odd slip too much wine, crisps, celebration chocs and 2 slices of malted seeded bread but where I’m practically on OMAD it doesn’t seem to have made a great impact. Although I will be cutting these out. If they become regular items in my WOE then well I will end up gaining and not losing! I’ve lost inches. Eating non bsd is definitely stress and tiredness related!

I also loved the at risk diabetes prevention programme online, very informative and looking forward to next week. I’ve learnt that its the weight we carry in the middle and how to measure that interms of your height and waist. I need to lose 4.5inches on the waist and guess what that’s the amount of weight I need to lose to be a healthy weight! I am losing weight at a steady pace and with everything that is going on in the world right now I’m gonna take the small wins.

Hope to post again but another v busy week ahead and I look forward to reading, learning with you all.

Have a lovely weekend 😘 BSD family 👪

Hi everyone, hope you are having a great weekend and sticking with your goals and intentions. Still waiting for Covid results for kids, said 24 hours now saying 4 days. They are all isolating as my daughter has the 3 kids a couple of times a week she has had to make her boys isolate too – they are a bit p—ed off but then the total lockdown came for Birmingham and Solihull so they are shut in anyway.

Went into our local market this morning, especially in search of UK goods – salad cream and sage and onion stuffing – what a price we have to pay. This is the first time ever in 15 years we have run out of the few UK things we like. Also run out of English bacon and sausages, cant find anything like in France. There is a lady who has a farm and produces meat products so we bought 2 packs of back bacon and 2 packs of sausages – €26 – that is around £25. We had better make it last, but it is top organic quality although I am okay with Tesco’s own brands. Masks are compulsory even outside and happily, everyone was complying.

Weight this morning is back down to what I was this time last week. Not going to mess us up now and hope for another small loss before doctors on Tuesday. Then we have arranged to go out for a meal on Wednesday lunch. Knowing French cuisine it wont be overly calorific or carby if I can keep away from the bread and just a small amount of wine!!! But I am ready for a bit of a treat. Even when I have a small treat at home I feel guilty so this is going to be guilt free pleasure. Well needed. Keep on keeping on…

P.S. Sort of an edit, we are having a heatwave here and it is around 33 degrees all week and for the foreseeable (7 day forecast), happily we are going to send it to our good friends in the UK. Hope you get it before the end of the weekend and enjoy.

Hi sunshine-girl, Fingers crossed for the results. We are looking forward to your heatwave coming north! Have you heard of http://www.cornershop.co.uk? I find it does quite a good service on UK foods – and not too pricey re postage. I hope all goes well on Tuesday. x

caronl thanks for the tip. I have heard of http://www.britishcornershop.co.uk and they are not very expensive on goods but postage is not great. They are good if there are a few of you who can share the freight costs. However, that is besides the point as they are not allowed to send fresh goods so no meat which was our main thing and besides that I only wanted some salad cream and sage and onion stuffing which came to €7.50 which was cheaper than the English aisle in the supermarket where an even smaller bottle of salad cream was €5.80. I mainly live without Brit foods but as you know the bacon and sausages are just not the same here. Funnily enough the Toulouse sausage is exceptional but for me it needs to be slow cooked in something like a cassoulet to soften it and my hubby finds it too dense. We have found some lovely chicken sausages in Picard which are my favourites to but hubby was craving English style. He will have to go without form now on. You are in France so you should be getting it hot by tomorrow. We had 33 today, 35 tomorrow and oh no, 38 on Monday. Talk about un ete indien. Thanks again.

*throws in white towel* so that didn’t work…. I think it has to be all or nothing for me, the 5:2 never really got off to a proper start, instead I’ve been semi-bingeing and I’m beginning to think I just can’t do ‘in moderation’… So I think I’ll just start over, 800 calories week 1.
I haven’t weighed myself, feel not quite ready for that. The weight gain probably isn’t as bad as I imagine, but will wait till the worst of the water weight and bloatedness has subsided before going near the scales…
Anyway, here we go, Fatsecret app is up and running again and I’m spending the morning making a weekly plan. Onwards and so on…

Morning – just a quick update on progress – I’ve lost 6lb this week, which I am very happy with. So far not been tempted by anything else although the ice cream van yesterday afternoon, which kept circling our close was very annoying and tempting – as I was out gardening in the front garden.

I’m not fasting this week but will start fasting from dinner to lunchtime from next week. This week, I have planned for a small breakfast and lunch and a 400kcal dinner and am also doing 4 weights of HIIT classes this week (that’s the aim at least – did 3 last week).

I’m hoping for 3 /4 lb loss for this coming week – but will try and be happy with any movement.

One question – does anyone else feel cold – keep feeling cold, which is odd as have plenty of spare blubber to keep me warm!

Hope everyone else has a good week!

Hi everyone, hope you are all doing great. Fattystar, yes you just reminded me – you do feel cold when you shake off some of that body hugging blubber. It wont last long.
Managed to lost that 1lb glitch but it has taken me all week and I am now back to exactly my last Monday’s weight. As weigh in is tomorrow I am hoping for another slight loss as I have my doctors appointment at 3pm. Managed a 30 min swim this morning before we get the tremendous heat today – 38 degree forecast and it is already 33 so quite likely. Will have another swim this evening as I will probably be needed to cool down before bed.
Had a bit of a panic this morning. Searched the fridge for the fish I bought for dinner. Couldnt find it anywhere until I remembered we ate it on Friday as planned and today is Monday. Think I have lock down brain,.
