    Hello 🙂
I thought I’d start a thread as I’m new here, on day one and in need of support!

    I’m 28 years old, 5ft0 and 17st 7lb.
My highest weight was two months ago when I reached 18 stone. I put on 7 and a half stone in under three years!

I’m now desperate to lose the weight I’ve put on so that I can do IVF, which because of BMI rules I can’t do until I’ve lost 6 and a half stone (91lb).

I’ve found the science that supports this plan incredibly interesting and I hope to have some success with it!

Hi Calorienia, jump on to next One week at a time thread….in the interim, you can access so much on here by the search function. It might help if you could give some guidance of what you have experienced over the last three years; I have no experience of say PCOS, if that is what you are personally dealing with. As you will have seen, this WoE works for so many, not least because largely ditching the “bad carbs” is both so easy, and so effective, but also there is some wiggle room as many of us work through blips. All best to you!

    Thank you!
I have been having a good look! Will get on the one Week at a time.

I’ve always had quite a negative relationship with food and body image I suppose, but I started seriously gaining weight after a bad break up, loneliness I suppose! The bigger I got, the less I wanted to get out and socialise, the more I just hid away and ate my feelings. Everything is going really well for me at the moment (I’m coming to the end of a Master’s degree and looking forward to starting a family, all exciting stuff), but am just stuck with the leftovers of the time spent overeating.

I don’t have PCOS, as far as I’m aware my fertility is fine, although I realise I’m putting it seriously at risk by being obese. I’m looking to become pregnant without a partner hence the IVF!

I’m definitely a carb addict! Pasta is my thing. The half stone I did lose was from doing keto, but I found that too hard going….. wiggle room I like 🙂

Wow you are embarking on an exciting journey, Caloriena!
Have you been reading Dr Mosley’s ‘Blood Sugar Diet’ book, or his new ‘The Fast 800’ book or both?

Wiggle room sounds like a sensible foundation stone. That allows for a really wide variety of wholefoods to maintain or increase your micronutrient intake (minerals/ vitamins/ essential fatty acids/ antioxidants) whilst you keep slimming down the calories and carbs. That of course puts you in the very best place for a happy and healthy pregnancy some time soon!

Yes … exciting, and a bit scary, but definitely exciting! I certainly have the motivation I need.

I’ve got the Fast 800 book. Would you recommend having a read of both?

I’m looking forward to the meals I have planned for this week, lots of fish and vegetables. Think I’ve had enough of feeling unhealthy… bring on the micronutrients!

    Hi Carolina!

You can do this! It can be hard to start with, some people experience cravings or get ‘carb flu’ where you feel really drained for a few days. If that happens to you please don’t be discouraged as it doesn’t last very long. A lot of diets get harder the longer you’re on them – this one is the opposite and actually becomes easier. I know it seems unlikely, but if you stick to it you’ll stop feeling hungry between meals and won’t actually want all the sweet carby stuff.

    My top tips –

    Drink lots of plain water.

Exercise as much as you can. Walking is great. Do whatever you can manage and try to increase it a little each week.

If you have a bad day and accidentally eat six doughnuts or something, don’t use that as an excuse to stop. We’ve all done it. Of course it will slow your progress, but if you go straight back to the diet you won’t have to go through the withdrawal phase again and will soon make up for a tempory lapse.

    Thanks Squidge!

Excellent advice…. I really need to up my water intake, it’s funny, but as a child all I drank was water while my three siblings loved sugary squash. It was only as an adult that I developed a terrible addiction to Pepsi Max! I’m really looking forward to getting rid of that and being all about the water again. I’ve been weaning myself off and had my last bottle today.

I’ve been doing a lot more walking too recently. My poor dog is 12 and for the first time in her life I think she wishes we did less walking!

It’s really lovely to hear from people who have such good things to say about the plan. It scares me that I’ve ballooned so much an it’s comforting to know that there is a way put of it, and it won’t be too painful!

    Thank you 🙂
