remember that separated at birth thing Lucky?

I also have my sandwiches dry and never added butter or milk to my potatoes, but I never added cream either I just had them plain and mashed (or roasted…)

It’s genetic for me – my mother didn’t like butter/marge/milk and although she did give me some as a child I turned my nose up at them very early. My daughter also prefers her sandwiches dry and doesn’t like milk.

The kids like Elana’s silver dollar pancakes, and I’ve found they freeze really well so you wouldn’t lose any if you made a batch and they didn’t like or want them you could just freeze them.

Omg freaky!! I wonder how many more similarities there are? My eldest also doesn’t like butter or marge – except on toast… as long as the toast has nothing else on. So a bacon toastie would be dry, breakfast toast would have butter. He explained it to me a few years ago as he didn’t like the idea of melted butter on food, for example a chip butty. My daughter, however, she won’t entertain new potatoes unless they’re swimming in a pile of butter. It makes me heave, the smell of it, melted butter. Same with cheese on toast, the smell of the cheese makes me feel physically ill. Yet, when it’s on a pizza, it’s the most desirable smell in the world. And – I’d be the first to stick my finger in a bowl of leftover buttercream! There’s nowt as queer as folk, I tell thee! Or maybe it’s just me that’s peculiar!

I’ve got that bookmarked from quite a few weeks ago, probably near the start of this journey, they caught my interest. They look ‘normal’ enough, don’t they? I think it’s the freezing that’s the key. The Lemon and Blueberry scones were amazing. Absolutely amazing. Once frozen though, they fell apart. Soft. Had to squidge them back together when they were defrosting, and reheating in the oven did nothing to help. Still tasted lovely but when you stuck your spoon into them, they just crumbled. That was an almond/coconut mix. The Blueberry muffins froze great, they were almond only.

I think coconut flour is a pain. Too dry (hence yesterday’s disaster in the Friday bake) and your defrosting nightmares. No wonder it’s usually only mixed with the million dollar almond.

I’ve bought on that we shop before Izzy – it’s a lot cheaper than everywhere else ( and I like the green packaging!) Will put my order in next weekend after I get paid. Maybe 2 kg of the flour while I’m feeling flush? Hey have a good offer on coconut oil too at the mo. I’m really getting into cooking with it…

I’m not doing the exercises yet, just trying to walk more at the moment, Josie. I know from experience that it does help with my weight loss, and especially now with my staying the same this week, I’m throwing everything at it. I’ve only given the recipes in the book a cursory glance to be honest, I just took note of what I could and couldn’t eat and ran with it. So far I’ve bought three flours, coconut sugar and butter that I didn’t use before, and I think I’ll get through those in time. Anything too exotic, I won’t be bothering.

My emoticons are crap when I’m on the PC, only smiles, grins and sad faces! Pffffffffft. I’m more proud of myself for exercising at this time of the month, usually I’d pull in about 600. And on a Saturday too! Saturday is our family’s ‘day of rest’ because Sunday is boring, that if we’re not off out watching our rugby team at home, then we’re cleaning. I accept your 8500 challenge. I will do my best. Probably in two increments again, but I’ll be moving more around the house tomorrow than today. I want to see if there’s a local beginner’s yoga class, hubby also seems interested in yoga. He also likes boybands. Lucky is worrying.

I only went to the gym once. I was 16. Never, ever again. I have treadmill, exercise bike, rowing machine, abs trainer, little exercise bike thingy that you can use sat on a chair, and shedloads of weights. I can’t swim. I am hopelessly uncoordinated and I have failed at every sport I have ever tried. I can’t run or jog because I have massive tatas (And I means massive, 46FF) and it’s so uncomfortable. My arms and legs don’t move at the right time together, so any form of dance or aerobics is out. Pretty much, walking and darts work for me.

They sound quite non-offensive from the ingredients list Josie 🙂 Tokyo is the brownie expert though, I’m sure she could tell within 2.4 seconds whether it would work. But I can’t see anything in there making it taste awful. And as you say, we’ve all got that stuff in.

Well, my little ‘stones to kilos’ experiment has already come up trumps. 0.3kg down today 🙂 The figure is 100.4 kg, so I also have another ‘mini goal’ coming up – get under 100 kilos!

I’m going to have a decent loss this week, I can feel it. I have a renewed determination this week, and it’s come without the expense of me falling off the BSD wagon, which is all the better. Renewed determination from staying the same is psychologically a lot better than having to lose the same pound or two I’ve already lost once and put back on. Healthy foods and increased exercise will kickstart this again for me. I’m just having a coffee, waiting for the painkillers to kick in and trying to warm up a bit before I go on the treadmill, then I will go for a bath before I start my cleaning. Heating is on for the third morning in a row, which is shocking. Treadmill is in outhouses which, although now ‘attached’ to the house by means of two lockable doors and a roof, are still single brick, non insulated, non heated outhouses. Only now with two lockable doors and a roof. Bonus is in the winter, I have the worlds largest fridge…

Hope the scales/waistbands/weather is being kind to you wherever you are 🙂

Happy Sunday! 2 momentous pieces of news this morning. 1. I am WEARING SHORTS. And amazingly I look and feel good in them! They’re markedly bigger on me than last year when I wore them on holiday ‘because no one would know me there!’
    2. I have found a use for coconut flour! By pimping recipes and trial and error I have made pancakes! They were initially VERY dry (imagine your mouth full of dessicated coconut) but I added more milk, and topped with blueberries, stevia and lemon juice. Yum!

My boy has his summer party today. Numerous small boys shouting and messing about with water. Wish me luck!

Yayyyyyy Janey! Well done on the shorts! Last time I wore shorts? 1991. No joke. Yes I know the ‘nobody knows me there’ routine but so far that has only extended to Crinkle pants and Ali baba pants. In the daytime. Outdoors. Imagine! Shorts! Or even – bathing costume! Anyway, you rule!

Any idea on the volume of flour? I’m a good cook but I HAVE TO follow some sort of a recipe.

That sounds horrendous. Enjoy! Rather you than me! Hope the weather is as glorious there as it is here! Yes, I said glorious. Woke up frozen, now we are seemingly in the middle of a heatwave. Can’t win.

Worrying a bit about Tokyo now, hope she’s ok 🙁

This is the recipe I pimped a bit http://naturalkitchenadventures.com/paleo/coconut-flour-pancakes/

Made a half quantity (in case they were awful). Used normal milk instead of coconut milk and a pinch of baking soda to make them fluffier. The goopy mess starts out very thick but thins down. Keep it quite thick though as these are more like American pancakes. I could only manage 2 so still have mix left, probably for another 2 👍🏼

It’s boiling here Eps, and I have been in soooooooooooooooo much pain today, worst pain I have been in in a long time. I’ll have to go back to GP for what use she is. I’ve hammered the pain relief, but no excuses – step count is 9086 for the day. I did 30 minutes on the treadmill this morning, pottered as best I could around the house, and just done another 40 minutes on the treadmill again. You know my ‘freezing’ outhouses? Yeah, well, the perspex roof and single brick walls ALSO turn the bugger into a sauna in the summer! My hair is saturated! Just rehydrating now and will have to go for another hosing down, a cold one I think! Seekh kebabs but in burger shapes tonight, I couldn’t be bothered sausageing them onto skewers lol.

Made some lovely muffins (which I tried to tell you all about in my three posts that wouldn’t post posts!). If this doesn’t post I’ll scream…

Yes, under 100 here I come! I think as long as I can get a 30 minute treadmill headstart early in the morning before my shower, I can fit 8000 – 10,000 steps into my day. I have an early start tomorrow anyway, daughter is off to Alton Towers so she will be leaving at 6.20 am. It’s little one’s sports day in the afternoon, so that’s a walk to school and back as well. And then I can top-up again in the night time. What step count are you inflicting on me for tomorrow then, Eps?

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat? Eps, you’re a bloody hard taskmaster!!! No easing me in gently??? Ok then. I will try my hardest.

Awww thank you 🙂 I’m in pain every day, and have been for a long, long time (back issues, sciatica, ligaments and probably more only GP is useless unless you’re a fit bloke and by fit I mean phwoar not healthy) but I’m used to it, if that makes sense, at it’s usual level. I function and just get on with it. Hurts whether I sit, stand, lie down, do housework, don’t do housework (lol) so I don’t use it as an excuse, because – well, I can’t! But now and again, it’s like someone turns the volume up on it and waaaaaaaaaaaaaaah 🙁 And today, was one of those days! Like thirty toothaches in the lower left of my back, travelling down my left leg into my knee. Was determined to hit the 8500 though so I adapted my step thing on my app, and my band buzzed when I reached it. I had to finish the song… and then another came on that I liked lol. Would have been rude not to.

Yeah I don’t blame you. Chocolate FTW 🙂

If so – Holland & Barrett sell it in small bags on the High Street. It’s a tenner for 500g though! You may need to take out a loan, sell a body part etc. Izzy swears by http://www.realfoodstore.co.uk/gluten-free-flours/ for buying in bulk, it does work out cheaper, you can buy 4kg bags. Ground almonds aren’t exactly the same thing (Izzy knows why), but in a lot of the US recipes I’ve seen, they’re used interchangeably.

That’s a bit mad they can’t work out why you in pain all the time. No chance it could be an allergy type reaction to some foods? I wonder. Or have they ever mentioned orthotics for you feet? Apparently if you’re feet don’t work right, it affects hips, back and even neck? Anyway, what do I know! I just find it annoying to hear that stuff like that hasn’t been looked after. Maybe you’ve tried loads of things already.

Yea, 10,000 it is!! We need to aim high! It’s hard when I sit at a desk a lot of the time but small walks a few times a day add up! And then one in the evening. Put it this way, she only sent me for an x-ray two years ago after about 8 years of pain! I muddle through as best I can with paracetamol and ibuprofen because every time it’s really bad and I go to ask for something stronger, she looks at me like I’m faking it. The thing is – she knows what’s wrong, she diagnosed it! She said ‘Hmmmmmm have you had an x-ray yet…’ and I said ‘No?’ ‘Why not?’ she says. Why not??? What was I to do, just turn up at the x-ray department demanding one??? I said ‘I don’t know, you haven’t sent me for one!’. I wouldn’t mind if I was one of these in the Doctor’s all the time, March 2014 was the last time I went to see her! Wouldn’t know about any of the other things because, well, she’s useless! I asked what I could do about the pain and she said ‘Lose weight.’ Fair enough. ‘Take painkillers.’ Ok, can you prescribe me some, then? For longer than a week at a time, because, you know, when I come back, it’s going to be with the same thing? That you diagnosed?? ‘And if it gets too bad, you’ll have to have an operation’. Er… no. No, I won’t. It’s not a case of finding another GP either, the other ones are equally… one is fantastic, but you can’t get an appointment with him as he’s constantly booked up with those who are in daily… another thinks that every ailment can be cured with fresh air and walking. One is hellbent on getting everyone off every medication that they’re on, whether or not, and another changes everyone’s medication – even when it works. It’s a complete shambles.

God, you’re getting your money’s worth out of these biscuits Eps! And yes, I’ve found two teachers locally, one actually in my town. But it’s a mixed class. Another does beginners classes. I think I’d feel more comfortable with that. One of them does it term time (a parent maybe) so they’re done now until September. Need to double, double check this. Sorry about GP rant. Lol x

    Hi Lucky and all

I am just reading this on Monday morning, end of week 3 weigh in, so I thought I must post instead of cooking OH breakfast.

Much older than you, very fat, have had sciatica for 20 years, some suggestions. Losing weight is good, walking is good, simple yoga poses like cobra and downward dog and pose of a child are good. Swimming is the best.

There is an operation, not a huge success rate, anti-inflammatories do not really work on nerve pain, despite what the gp said. You need an MRI not just an Xray or at least a CT scan. I at last have a neurologist, after like you, managing it for years. I even got a script for opiates and decided they were worse than the pain. But I can tell he does not really want to operate, because what we have is bone growth over the nerve and it is arthritis!

What you really need, and it may be hard for you, is a warm swimming pool. Find a doctor who will send you for hydro-therapy. They must be about. You don’t have to swim for the Olympics just dog paddle or breast stroke or walk.

Some-one posted this recipe on another forum and said it was good http://www.nourishingdays.com/2010/07/fluffy-coconut-flour-pancakes/

I am sure that almond meal would work in most recipes, we are not making sponge cakes. I have been making non-wheat pancakes for years and if it is not fine enough just put in in the blender!

Good night and good morning from downunder
Start of week 4. for me 9 lbs down
