Hello and welcome! This thread will run for the whole of 2026 and is for anyone who has weight loss or health-related goals for this new year. We considered various names for the thread, including Building Better Habits Together in 2026 and Moving Forward Together in 2026. So if those sentiments resonate with you, please do join us!

Some of us on the thread have been doing the BSD or Fast 800 for a long time, and have kept in touch recently on the 2025 Time to Come Alive thread. But newcomers are very welcome too : it will be lovely to make new friends this year as we all work towards our various goals.

So whatever your goals for 2026, why not get off to a great start by posting them here? We promise you a friendly welcome, and lots of support and fun as we journey through 2026 together. Look forward to meeting you 😀

    Happy New Year!
Thanks for setting up the new thread DCT. I’ll pop in and out. I have my first goal for the year written in my ‘little black book’ and as I’ve said on the new seasonal thread I have a new ethos this year. I listened to Ben Bikman and he has no real problem with carbs in their natural form rather he says just don’t eat carbs that come in a ‘box or bag with a barcode’. Makes sense when you think about it and so simple! So I’m not weighing, counting or logging I’m just going to limit my carbs by not eating any carbs that come in a ‘box or bag with a barcode’. Well I’ll try!
Hope 2026 brings everything you wish for!

    Happy New Year friends!
Thank you DCT for setting up this thread 🙂
I first started following BSD in January 2017, so this year is my 10th! Unfortunately I’m almost back at my 2017 weight 🙁 not quite, but not far off either. Looking back at my stats, 2021 was the year I did best, with over a 10kg loss between start and end of year, so my goal for this year is to repeat that success!
One thing I did do well in 2025 was to start most days with a 5,000 step walk, which takes about 40 minutes, I’m definitely going to keep that up.
Basically I just need to get my eating (and drinking) back under control. I like the sound of your approach Verano, I want to try and be “sensible” first and if that doesn’t work then I’ll get back into calorie counting, monitoring macros and weighing foods
I’m planning on a re-start from Monday 5 January, and will check my weight every Friday.
Looking forward to continuing my health and wellbeing journey with my friends here in 2026!

Hello and thank you DCT for setting up our 2026 thread. I started BSD in 2017 and achieved my goal weight later that year. It took me about 9 months to lose 42 lb. I maintained for about 3 years and then gradually found it more and more difficult to keep my weight under control. I’ve spent the last few years failing at any lengthy weight loss achievement: up and down the same half stone. I’m drawing a line under things and particularly last year and starting a clean sheet from tomorrow. I’m going to weigh myself tomorrow (dreading it as not weighed since August) and take things slowly. My plan is to think about healthy living, being kind to myself and nourishing my body and mind. I’m not going hell for leather as I would normally do in January. Slow and steady wins the race! Last year I was convinced I would achieve my goal weight as I was so determined but for a variety of reasons I struggled. At one point when I was so disappointed I decided that enough was enough, I was fighting a losing battle and for the last few months I’ve not weighed and I have found it quite liberating not being obsessed about what I eat. However, my HbA1c is creeping up, my weight is definitely up as my clothes are tight and I have to be accountable for my health. I am 65 in June. I want to feel well, in control and positive. I have to stay focused and accountable and also be responsible my future health. I would love to feel good about myself once more. So with all that being said, I’m weighing tomorrow and facing the music! I want to be a positive influence on this wonderful thread and so once again here I am- ready to try again.

Cathy thanks for your post – your words really resonated with me! The main reason I want to lose weight (again!) is for my health. My blood pressure has gone up so much over the last 6 months, I have really swollen feet from fluid retention, joint pain has been increasing again and to top It off I think I may have sleep apnea too! I wake up numerous times during the night, am so tired during the day and my husband complains that I snore 🙁 All these things were happening
10 years ago, but my health then improved as I lost weight and ate a healthier diet. So now I’m determined to feel healthy once again!
It’s Day 1 for me and so far so good, I spent some time yesterday preparing some of my favourites from my BSD and Fast 800 recipe books – granola, cheese and chive muffins, fruit compote and lentil bolognaise sauce. The muffins (from the Fast 800 Keto book are really tasty, they only have 1.5g carbs as are made with almond flour. I had one for breakfast today and will have another with some salad for lunch tomorrow.
We are in for a very hot week here in Sydney – temperatures between 35 and 42 each day from Wednesday to Saturday 🙁 I absolutely detest it as my house doesn’t have a working air conditioner… anyway I’ll definitely be eating lots of salad this week! I managed to walk 11,000 steps today on my morning walk and then running errands, and the plan is to walk early each morning this week before it gets too hot.
Hope everyone else is off to a good start too 🙂

    Hello everyone

Today I weighed myself and my weight was 166 lb! I estimated it would be 171 lb so it was a nice surprise to see that I wasn’t as heavy as I estimated I would be. My BMI is 30 so my first task is to get a BMI under 30. I have had some hot raspberries and Greek Yoghurt with chia seeds for my breakfast and it was delicious. When I first embarked on the blood sugar diet in 2017 I started at 175 lb so I am lighter than I was then but not by much. It has been a huge step for me this morning to weigh and admit my weight but I can’t bury my head in the sand anymore if I want to be healthier this year. I’m feeling positive and I’m glad to be back at it.
Sue, it was -7 degrees here this morning. It will be soups for me and salads for you! Well done on your day 1. It’s good to have you to share my Day 1 with. I am looking forward to seeing our progress.

Good luck to everyone who is detoxing from the Christmas feasting! I’ve enjoyed it but it’s time to eat healthy, nourishing food and now I’ve faced the music of my post Christmas weigh in, I can plan each day and look forward to my clothes feeling more comfortable over the next few months! My 65th birthday is in June so it would be nice to feel good about my progress on my birthday.

Hi everyone reading this, and especially those who have joined the thread so far : POOTLE, BECCABSD, VERANO, SUEBLUE and CLARINETCATHY. Welcome. Plenty more room for others to join too : whether you want to post regularly or just now and again, it’ll be great to have you on board! I’m also treating this as DAY 1.

So much of what has already been said resonates with me. Like several others, I started BSD in 2017. I weighed 175lb and began to weight quite quickly over the first 2-3months, despite me not expecting to (more to do with my willpower than the way of eating!). I then continued to lose weight at a slower pace and reached my lowest weight of 135lb in 2019. My original target was 133lb but I didn’t quite get there and found even 135lb difficult to maintain. But my weight settled at 138lb for quite some time and that is my goal by the end of 2026. I’m currently 158lb so have 20lb to lose.

In the past I’ve too often set myself ambitious goals – in line with my early BSD weight loss – but I want to change that in 2026 and just take things steady. If I can lose 1lb or 2lb a month that’s fine, maybe a little more at first if I get off to a good start. I aim to do a gentle Mediterranean-style diet most of the time and also use the 5:2 method of 2 strict days per week. In parallel I need to find exercises to tackle my main bugbear – belly fat. It is really noticeable now and means that many of my clothes are currently out of bounds. Rather than refill my wardrobe with bigger clothes I want to get the fat off.

    Wish me luck!!

I look forward to travelling with you through 2026, and hope it’s a good year for everyone X

    Hello
Hope everyone is doing well. It’s hard reducing our intake after the Christmas indulgences isnt it. My carb monster is craving! I’m making small tweaks here and there as I ease into my weight loss journey for 2026 and they’re going to make a difference. No bread last night with my evening meal. No breakfast this morning, just a coffee. Home made celery and stilton soup for lunch today, an omelette for my tea tonight. I’ve started a new weight loss chart on my Renpho scales app. I am hoping to see a rewarding downwards line appear over the next few months. Because of the snow I’m not going out walking today as I’m nervous of falling as I have osteoporosis but as soon as the snow melts I plan to go walking each day. Every little bit will help.
We have built up a great arsenal of tools and resources over the years so we know what to do but we just have to do it. I think being sensible and having reasonable expectations will help me this year. I’m going to try a combination of calories, low carb, time restricted eating, walking and drinking more water. My first goal is to get my BMI back under 30. I plan to have my HbA1c repeated in April so I need to keep my carbs low for that test. I want that to be normal so that is also a focus for me. Small steps as I enter the first phase of 2026 and I feel I’ve got this!

I’m invigilating today so just had avocado and cottage cheese before my shift. I weighed this morning and I’m down 1.2 lb. I looked at my stats and I’m the heaviest I’ve been for many years but that is inspiring me to work at getting back to a healthy weight.

Morning all! How has the first week of January gone for you?

CATHY I’m pleased to hear you have started your invigilation work now. How is it going? Hope your school has not been affected in any way by Storm Goretti?

I’ve got off to a reasonable start : lost 1lb this week but not counting my chickens as they say. My weight fluctuates quite a bit anyway, and it’s not unusual for me to go up or down a couple of pounds during a week, even if I’ve not done anything particularly different. So my aim is to be 4lb “properly” down by the end of January. This is a slightly faster pace than I expect for this year but I’m hoping more will come off in the early days.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend, and hope that we all see some positive results over the next few days!

Hi everyone, and I hope the year is going well for you all so far. I love reading the posts. Unfortunately, I’ve been down with a bad cold and flu for the last week, having caught it from my daughter’s family just as they were all getting better. Feels like between us all we’ve had sickness since Christmas! I live in a small cottage behind my daughter and son-in-law’s house, and I care for my granddaughter when they are working, which is nice for keeping a close relationship with her. I’m blessed. Except for the getting sick. : )

Well, I did go ahead and start eating very low carb on January 1. I didn’t count calories for the first week, but I also wasn’t eating a lot due to being sick. I ended up with a shocking loss of 13 pounds the first week! A lot of that being water, I’m sure. I’m also extremely overweight and so bound to lose faster for that reason.

Now into week two, continuing the very low carb and into the calorie counting. Will weigh again on Thursday January 15 and see how I did.

At some point I need to start doing some muscle strengthening exercises, even just sit-to-stand or marching in place. I’m 71 years old and have been very, very sedentary for decades. Need to work on this so I don’t end up losing my balance or falling. Plus, I want to be able to get out and walk more, maybe do more things with my daughter and granddaughter. And want to be here for as long as I can to see the little one grow up.

Looking forward to hear from everyone as the days go by. It really is a nice support system. Good luck, everyone! Hopefully by next New Year’s we will all be so happy with what we’ve accomplished.

    Cheers to us all! –Becca

Hi Becca, lovely to hear from you. And well done for such a great start, even though the circumstances were not ideal. All the best for your next weigh-in on Thursday – I’m sure you won’t be disappointed. I’ve been doing this WoE on and off since 2017 and have always found – both myself and others – that more weight usually comes off at the beginning, no matter how much or little you have to lose. Some of it is water weight but I think it’s also as your body adjusts to less carbs and cals going in. So I’m confident you’ll also see a good loss this week. It’s exciting to share your journey. You sound very determined and are also very motivated by your current and future involvement with your family. Good luck with it all, and I can’t wait to hear more about your progress over the next few days and weeks.

How is everyone else doing? Slow and steady this end. This past week has been more about getting back into good habits and the right mindset. I’m consistently 1lb down and hope to shed another 3lb by the end of January 🤞

    Good luck everyone! X

Well done Becca on your great start, and I hope you feel 100% better soon 🙂 You mentioned exercise – what I found helpful during the COVID lockdowns were YouTube exercise videos – there’s ones for gentle exercise, seniors, walking at home etc. They are a good way of getting into regular exercise as you can go at your own pace and in the comfort of your own home 🙂

I’ve had a good week in terms of weight loss – down 3kg or 6.6lb. I’m sure a lot of
it was fluid as I had really badly swollen feet earlier in the week, and they are better now. It was a horrible week with the weather – it was 43 degrees centigrade yesterday, no fun in an older house with no air conditioning! I made a refreshing watermelon, mint and feta salad for lunch yesterday, and then chicken salad wraps for dinner.
Today was thankfully only 22, totally different! So I cooked some corned silverside for dinner and we had that with veggies – it was nice to have a hot meal again after days of salads!
I’m enjoying getting back into cooking my Fast 800 and BSD meals again – I had scrambled eggs with feta and smoked salmon for breakfast – so filling and delicious 🙂
Despite the heat I still managed to walk for 45 mins on 5 mornings – we walk at 7am, before it gets too warm.
Anyway Week 2 begins for me tomorrow and I’m aiming for a 500g to 1kg loss.
I worked out I want to lose 15kg to get back down to the weight I was comfortable with in 2022. That’s still “overweight” on the BMI charts but I felt good – size 16 clothes fitted comfortably and I was happy with how I looked and felt. I’m 5ft 9” and not a light build so doubt I’ll ever be a size 10 again!
Hope everyone else is doing well 🙂

    Hello

Well done to Becca, Sue and DCT. Great weight losses. Becca, I hope you feel better soon. What an amazing weight loss for your first week. I have lost 1.2 lb this week. Slow and steady like DCT. . I’ve had a gentle start. Eating healthily and reducing portions but I’ve not been 100% good. I’ve eaten too many nuts, I’ve also had a sneaky chocolate here and there! I am easing into things. I will ramp up slowly. Ive eaten yoghurt and raspberries or just had a cup of coffee for breakfast. Lunch has been cottage cheese and avocado, home made soup etc and evenings have been a mixture of healthy food such as dal or omelette and plenty of vegetables. I made a butternut squash warm salad yesterday. It wasn’t really low carb but it was healthy with roasted butternut squash, mushrooms, walnuts, stilton cheese on a bed of spinach but it was tasty and nutritious and I am looking at eating well and non processed. I am busy this week with working and I am at Christie for my MRI scan result on Wednesday but I will try to get in some more steps now the snow has gone. Sue, thank you for the reminder of the walking at home YouTube videos, I loved doing them during lockdown. Something to remember during the winter ice and snow when we can’t get out.
I think my weigh day will be a Friday going forward. I started on Monday 5th January. I will weigh myself again on Friday morning and hopefully still see a downward trend. I am hoping to be 3lb down by the end of January. Some might think this is a slow loss but I know my body well and I am a slow loser but I will be delighted if i am 3lb lighter at the end of the month. I have been thinking about my goal weight and I think I would like to aim for 145 lb so about 20lb to lose and I’ll see if that is doable and then have a re-think. I am going to break my journey into 5lb goals. Lose 5lb then have a think about my next 5lb. It breaks things up into smaller and hopefully doable targets. I reckon I can be at least 5lb down by the end of February. That is my personal challenge.
Have a good week everyone. I’ll report back on Friday with my latest weight loss. Thank you for your support and it’s great to follow your progress.

    Hi everyone,
Glad to be joining, even if I am a little late starting. My first goal for 2026 is to get back down to my size pre-surgery. My leg is healing really well and before the holidays I was using the elliptical machine at the gym at the office for a few minutes every day at the request of the physio to start the rehab. I have only been back in the office once since then, and also the machines are so old that they protest at more than a few minutes use. I could get a gym membership in town, but I really don’t like the gym early in the new year as it is too busy. I wanted to go x-country skiing over the holiday but there was no snow. We’ve got a bit of slushy snow now that keeps freezing and thawing every day, so mostly ice at this point. It has been such a warm winter! We’ve got a few very warm days ahead followed by lots of sun, so I should be able to get out and start walking again. The pain in my leg is pretty well all gone now, and I am very glad I had the surgery as the lump itself was responsible for a lot of the pain I was feeling in that leg when I was trying to be active.
Diet-wise, I have been struggling with motivation to cook. I made a butter bean and broccoli dish last week that was good but it only got me through 3 meals and then I was back to more ready-meal type things. I’m trying to give myself a bit of grace though. The last few weeks especially have been very hard as I have been in the process of having a conflict with my counsellor and trying to repair that with her. Unfortunately, it seems like it will not be repairable, so I am taking the week off work to rest (it has been shockingly exhausting to go through this!), go to my support group meeting and interviewing new counsellors. I got some recipe books out of the library, so I will see if I can plan some easy meals out of those.
Looks like everyone is off to a great start for the new year!

Arctic Fox so glad your surgery went well. Sorry to hear about the issue you’re having with your counsellor and I hope
you can sort something out soon. In the meantime, take care of yourself x

Cathy and DCT well done on your losses. The slow and steady approach works best for me too. Cathy I’m going to focus on 5lb goals too, that works out to be about 2.2 kilos, so my first goal is to lose that amount in the next 4 weeks. This aligns with the goals the Happy Scale app has set for me too. If I can keep it up at that rate I’ll be at my goal weight in July, well before my birthday in September.
Today has been lovely and cool at 23 degrees and with some welcome rain showers. I went out for a walk in the morning with my husband, and then lunchtime with my daughter as we both had errands to run.
Lunch today was a corned beef wrap (with left over corned silverside from dinner last night) and dinner today is Lentil Curry. The recipe I use is on the Recipe Tin Eats website (mega flavour lentil curry or something similar), and I LOVE it as it’s so simple to make and so cheap too! It’s probably not low carb as such but like you Cathy I’m focusing on nutrition, my family will have their curry with rice and garlic naan bread, and I’ll have mine on a bed of steamed broccoli and cauliflower.
I took my measurements today too, as I remembered that sometimes there’s no or little loss on the scales, but I will have lost some cms.
The other decision I made today was to give up alcohol until Australia Day (2 weeks away) and my husband has agreed to this too, so really hoping this will make a difference too.
I’ll weigh again on Friday and post results here so that I can keep myself accountable!

HI everyone. Lovely to read all the recent posts!

ARCTICFOX welcome. back! I was so pleased to see your post as I was wondering how you were getting on. Great news that your surgery went well, and that it is already making a difference. I hope you find more recipes that work for you, and also hope you can find some suitable and fun ways to be more active. I’m sure that this combination will get you back to your pre-surgery size very soon. Sorry to hear about the counsellor issue, and I hope you find the best person for you very soon.

SUE well done on your weight loss last week! water weight or not, it’s a great start. Good luck for this week. I always love reading about the meals you are having, as they sound delicious and give me ideas. Good idea to lay off the alcohol too, especially after Christmas. I think a short period of abstinence can really help to reset expectations and make it easier to drink more moderately. Dry January is a big thing in the UK and I was going to do it this year then fell at the first hurdle. But, like you, I’m making a conscious effort to cut it right down as a couple of glasses of wine can really add fat very quickly.

CATHY I love your recipes too! That butternut squash salad sounded lovely and I may give it a try. It sounds like you are enjoying your new job which is great news. I hope your Christie’s appointment goes well too this week. We are both aiming to lose 20lb this year and both taking the slow and steady route so it’s lovely to have your company on the journey.

Hello to anyone reading this and hope you’re doing ok too. Do post to say hello, even if you never have before. It’s great to have the support and companionship of so many on these forums who begin as strangers but soon become friends.

Here’s to a successful week for us all!

    Hi everyone,
Just a quick post to say I’m starting today as didn’t think it was realistic for me to start last week as I wasn’t really in the frame of mind to resist some unhealthy food we had in the house. We still have a few bits but I feel totally differently towards them today and am about to work out this week’s food plan on MFP.
Well done to everyone who started last week. Your posts are all inspiring, whether it’s regarding weight loss or just general thoughts about the year ahead. I’ve eaten pretty unhealthily this last week so I think most of the weight loss I will have this coming week will be water but as long as it’s coming off I don’t mind! I’ve spent the last few days rereading the Fast800 book so I’m raring to go, let’s hope that continues😀 Wishing everyone luck for the coming week.

    Good morning all,

It is sooo encouraging to hear how everyone is doing. I know we all have issues with something but coming together on here is so very supportive!

I really must not allow my weight to creep up again..so easy to get onto the merry-go-round of ‘just one won’t matter’! I did put weight back on over Christmas, and I am finding it hard to resist the carb monster.. but I have got back below the 10 stone point and my BS levels are good! I am determined to keep the diabetes in remission so have to maintain the diet!

The weather here today is awful .. so wet it isn’t conducive to getting outside, which is essential to my mood!! However, I am now signing off, to go out to feed all the animals and get a bit of exercise!

    See you all soon!

As a bit of encouragement for you, I put my diabetes into remission in 2024 by following the BSD and using recipe books for Fast 800 and the BSD. Counting carbs as well as calories. It can be done!! I lost over 5 stone!

    Hi FightingT2
As Pootle says you’re in the right place to reverse your T2.

I found BSD in mid 2016 when my HbA1c was 46, not very high you might say, but I was on the highest dose of metformin and threatened with another medication. May 2016 my HbA1c was 46, I started the BSD in July 2016 and by October it had dropped to 37. I stayed on medication, slowly reducing for almost a year because at that time low carb was comparatively new so I was guided by my GP. Staying low carb my blood sugar has stayed in the mid 30’s, drug free, ever since, with just one blip at 41 in 2023. So I reigned in my carbs and here I am over 9 years on and still have normal blood sugars. So yes it does work.

Weight loss is very important but carbs are THE real secret. That’s not to say you will never be able to eat carbs again. When your blood sugar is in the normal range you’ll be able to experiment and add in the odd carb here and there but each ‘body’ is different so you will have to find you’re own ‘sweet spot’. Best of luck. Low carb works!

Hi everyone. Thanks DCT for setting up the new thread, and welcome to the newcomers. It’s always nice to share the excitement!

I am back in lurking mode. My husband died last week and my head is all over the place. But it’s good to say hello. One point of thankfulness is that I am entering this awful stage in a much healthier and more resilient state. For newcomers, just to explain that I started eating healthily at the end of May last year and reduced by 15+ kilos, moving from obese to a healthy BMI for my age. I am so glad I did that.

I am planning to stay on the same course this year – avoiding processed carbs, rice and potatoes and booze, and not going mad on avocados nuts and cheese (though I shall continue to enjoy them!). . So continuing to treat my body and mind with healthy food, and not get too wound up with counting. It has worked so far, so fingers crossed.

Very best wishes to you all. I probably won’t be posting again for a while. xx

A quick post to bump this back up to the top.
I interviewed a new counsellor yesterday and what a relief it was to feel like I was finally being heard. I really don’t understand how things got so far off piste with my last one, other than I finally started to stand up for myself, not only in the real world but in her office and she couldn’t handle the monster she helped create, I suppose. Anyway, I have 2 more to interview this week; one today and one on Friday. I am off work so just trying to relax other than keeping the animals clean and fed and watered. Well, not quite true. I have a hay delivery coming tomorrow potentially depending on the weather and the first night back volunteering with the Girl Guides since the holidays. I started at the beginning of December. So I have been trying to eat a bit healthier while I have more time to plan and cook this week. I had a prawn salad last night with green bell pepper and cubes of cheddar in a mayonnaise-based dressing. Quite nice. I still can’t eat eggs, so I had to have a plant-based mayo which was not as nice as my regular mayo though. I can eat small amounts of tomato now again though so that has opened up some options. I think my gut has healed enough from not eating the gluten anymore that I have been able to add most things back in, including dark chocolate and some higher fat things like the mayonnaise. So that is good.

Glad to hear of the positive changes, ArcticFox, and I hope it will all work out well. Sounds like you’re making a good effort to care for yourself with relaxation, volunteering, and eating well as the business of finding the right counsellor is sorted.

    Hello everyone ,
Thank you Dreamscometrue for starting the thread.

I started Fast800 on 1/1/26 almost completed 2 weeks!!! Stuck to it so far, finding it easy, so much so I started to triple check weighing and logging food 🙂

I have done the diet before years ago but this time it seems easier, more interesting recipes and loads of resources around, I’ve even enlisted the help of AI to adjust a recipe or two ensuring low carb / high protein, with ingredients I have.

This week I started to also do 16:8 and exercise more, that’s made it a little harder and feels more like I remember.

I haven’t weighed myself I decided it would depress me too much, using a tape measure instead to regularly record changes/ track progress.

I’m using MyfitnessPal to log food, for some reason the app started to use a large amount of data? I googled it a known issue with some users? I was thinking of signing up to the fast800 program that includes food logging but I really like the food / recipes I have been discovering and making.

I hope everyone has a lovely week!

Heidi I’m very sorry to hear about your husband, in recent years I’ve supported a few friends in similar circumstances all I can offer is – be gentle with yourself and deal with one crappy thing a day (don’t try and do it all at once) and then try and do one nice thing even if it’s small – a cuppa or patting dog .

Hi everyone, and a special welcome to the latest two newcomers FightingT2 and Patsnotcarb. Hello and lovely to “meet” you!

FightingT2 I hope that you find this thread a helpful support in reducing your blood sugar. Both Verano and Pootle have put diabetes into remission using the WoE, as have several others on various other threads. So you’re in good company and if you need ideas or inspiration, just shout! I hope that you see great results this year : it CAN be done 🙌

Patsnotcarb well done on your first two weeks! It’s interesting you are finding it easy this time, because when I first started in 2017 I found it easier than expected, and began to lose weight quite quickly. But at other times since then it’s been an uphill struggle. You’re right that there are definitely more resources around now, which is great, but I think a big part of it is your own mindset. I am doing well at the moment but I think that’s mostly because I feel very motivated and excited at the prospect of losing weight and fat, and I’m willing to stay on track because it’s important to me to do so. Whereas at other times I’ve made more of a half-hearted attempt because I felt I “ought” to, or whatever. It’s amazing how completely interlinked our mental and physical health and wellbeing is, even when we don’t acknowledge that. You sound like you’re also very motivated so I look forward to further updates soon.

Arcticfox I’m pleased you are nearer to finding a new counsellor. It sounds like you had gone beyond what your previous one was able/willing to provide and in that sense you didn’t need them any more. You referred to “the monster” she helped to create but in a way it’s all credit to both you and her that you have come so far. It’s great to hear you sounding so confident and you sound as busy as ever! Well done on the food experiments too : I’m glad you are finding things that you enjoy and are now able to eat.

Cathy I hope your appointment goes well today. And Heidi, I’m thinking of you every day X

I’m plodding on. Another pound gone which is great. Though my main desire is to see some inch loss by the end of the month. But I’m taking things gently. Currently having three meals a day in no particular time window, so I have the option of dropping to two meals and/or a limited eating window later to shake things up if needed. I’m not counting calories or carbs but reverting back to combinations that have worked for me in the past. So it’s mainly eggs or Greek yogurt and fruit for breakfast, home made soup or a salad for lunch, and a simple chicken, fish or veggie dinner. I’m also cooking and eating earlier in the evening to cut out that tempting late afternoon drink/snack time which just adds empty calories. I may allow myself to indulge on a Friday as a weekly treat, but I’d got into the habit of doing that every day which is lethal 🙀

Hope everyone else is having a good week. Let us know how you’re getting on 😊

Many thanks for the warm welcome, Dreamscometrue.
I’ve not been great with the diet so far. I can see my main hurdle is to overcome bad habits, but I’m conscious of what I’m eating, so that’s a start.
I may copy your framework of eggs or Greek yogurt and fruit for breakfast; a salad for lunch, and chicken or fish for dinner. I think I’m getting overwhelmed with all the recipes and need more structure with less options.

FightingT2- when i started doing the blood sugar diet back in 2017 I read the book and ate very simple meals for quite a time before reading any of the recipe books. Breakfast was always Greek yoghurt and raspberries. Lunch was a piece of cheese and some salad or an egg and salad or a greek salad. I am vegetarian. I would have hummus and celery etc and evening would be an omelette or some quorn sausages with cabbage or some chilli with cauliflower rice. It was quite simple food. This has got me thinking that I maybe need to go back to basics. The recipe books are really useful and I’ve got some lovely recipes from them but this way of eating doesn’t have to be complicated. I remember having an apple and some cheese and some walnuts for my lunch. Jist cutting the bread, pasta, rice, cakes, crisps out of my diet made a huge difference.
Thank you for reminding me about how simply I started and how it made a difference. I have always thought it must be so much easier for meat eaters with the amount of choice you have. I’m also keen on avoiding any processed foods so going back to salads, soups, berries, yoghurt, eggs, vegetables, is something to appreciate for its simplicity and effectiveness in losing weight.
Good luck everyone – it doesn’t have to be complicated. I had amazing results first time round with my simple food! Hoping to enjoy good results again this time too.

FightingT2 I agree with everything Cathy has said. Keep it simple. It’s easy to be overwhelmed with the amount of information and recipes out there, plus all the various numbers involved. But in my view it’s better to have a few meals that you just keep rotating round until you get into the groove. If you try to spend ages researching, shopping for and preparing lots of different meals that you’re not familiar with it can get too complicated.

I also think the key to success is in something you mentioned – “breaking bad habits”. This can be really hard and, as I said in my last post, I’ve found I do much better if my mindset is right. So I’d suggest two things. Firstly, you need to be clear about your main reason for changing your WoE , and you’ve already mentioned you want to reverse your diabetes and reduce your blood sugar. But it might help to explore that in more detail about why it’s so important to you. Try to identify your main reason for wanting to do it. You don’t need to share that here but just have it as your main inspiration for doing this and always keep it in focus.

The second thing that may help is to gently wean yourself off the bad habits rather than going completely cold turkey. Others may disagree but this worked for me. When I started this WoE I was working full time in a private school and had very long days. My bad habits included snacking during the day – think cakes and biscuits in the staffroom! – having lots of bread at lunchtime and then hitting the wine and salty snacks as soon as I came home. So what I did was take my own snacks for break eg celery and hummus, eat that at my desk then go up later to the staffroom when the best cakes would already have gone. I avoided the bread at lunchtime and had extra salad items instead. And when I got home it was chilled sparkling water with a slice of lemon accompanied by a handful of almonds. By doing these kinds of things I maintained the comfort factor of the bad habits but replaced the actual content with healthy alternatives.

So the important thing is to be kind to yourself and find what works for you. Also see this as an exciting adventure not an ordeal to be endured. The results will be worth the effort of change. Once you get into the groove you might want to start finding a new recipe now and again, and incorporating it into your regular routine. But don’t try to do everything new all at once as it could be too much.

Hope this helps. And good luck! Remember two things. It CAN be done. And YOU can do it!!

Hi everyone, we are having a gorgeous, sunny day here. We have hardly seen the sun at at this winter, so it is much appreciated. I am having a quiet day at home after a week of interviewing counsellors and going to Girl Guides and pottery the last 2 days. Catching up on housework and waiting for a delivery. Unfortunately, the counsellor I was supposed to see tomorrow has come down with the flu, but I have a support group meeting tomorrow, so that will help.
Eating-wise, I am trying what many are and looking to whole foods and thinking that I need to keep things simple. No need to make fancy things for every meal, just hit the right food groups. Thanks for the apple, cheese and nuts suggestion Cathy. That is what I had for lunch today. With the sunny, above zero weather, I will likely be able to harvest some kale from the garden this afternoon to have with my evening meal of prawns and Brussels sprouts, maybe in the form of kale chips.

Thanks ClarinetCathy and Dreamscometrue. I definitely think I’ll benefit from taking things slowly and introducing new habits. The ‘all or nothing’ mindset has been my biggest challenge.

    Hi Everyone,

I’m still going strong hope you are enjoying the journey or at least the results 🙂

I have a slight issue I’ve been using MyFitnessPal app for years now problems but since a recent update the app is using huge amounts of cellular data – MFP support says that a day logging meals should use 100 – 300KB. If I just open the app it uses 0.01GB that’s basically 10,000KB. I’ve deleted and reinstalled the app a couple of times MFP support is very slow in responding and basically just tells me to do things I’ve already done so boring.

Not sure if anyone else has a similar issue or can recommend another free food tracking app???

Ps searching the forums to see if tracking apps have been discussed I found a lot of spam posts totally irrelevant like real estate???

Might just get out a dairy and pen and pretend it’s pre internet 🙂
