So I had a great start to this, 10lbs in first ten days, then 1lb since, in first week stopped glicazide as BS going very low during day now my sugars are stuck between 7-8. Loss 4cm on waist in first ten days then that has gone static. Is this normal? It is hard not seeing any results in 8 days.

Hi there, firstly you have done so well with the weight loss. Not sure about sugars as you dont say what they were before. I would suggest, from my experience, that you stick with it and the weight loss will restart (look up Plateaus in the Search Box). That 4cm waist loss shows you have lost fat but it was probably internal fat which is the best to loose at it clears the liver and pancreas helping with the blood sugars. Your getting reading of 7 and 8, is this better or worse. You have stopped glicazide, I would suggest this should have been reduced not cut. I was on 90mg and to stop the afternoon low readings cut out one 30mg tablet. Also, dont know if you are on any other medications that you could be reducing. A bit more information would be useful but our bodies and strange and wonderful things and do exactly as they like but you are doing the best thing for it. Dont give up and have faith.

Thanks sunshine girl, I am on a slow release metformin as well – my blood sugars prior to diet were between 8 and 12, so I have seen a decline but i think the frustration is 8 days of no change and it seems along time when I have made drastic changes to my diet not to see any change. in my head i was doing this for 8 week weeks, so i need to keep persevering but i am getting tempted to stray.

Okay, but not to give you medical advice what is said about metformin is it makes very little difference to the diabetic readings, glicazide is the big guns drug. If it was me I would have carefully and slowly cut some of the Metformin and the Glicazide but at different times to see which had the best effect. I know if I cut my Glicazide any further my BG will shoot back up. The changes you make should be in conjunction with the diet and BG readings, your body will be reassessing and readjusting all the time – the low calories aspect is a big enough shock to the system and then to junk the meds your poor body doesn’t know if it is up its production of glycogen thereby increasing your BG reading or what to do. The answer is to take all things slowly and let your body and results guide you. As you were between 8 and 12 you are doing so well and over the next 6 weeks they are likely to come down further but, and I repeat, slowly slowly.
