Hi there, I am not sure why you ditched the Metformin, did you get your BG into a normal range or did you just decide not to take it. At 8 and 10 you are running quite high. Have you thought about doing the full 8 weeks to get your BG under control which should also get your weight loss moving again. Most plateaux dont last more than a couple of weeks so maybe you are ready to start moving again. You dont say what your eat when you are on the 2 weeks off the 800 cals. Are you still cutting out the white carbs or do they creep in. More information is needed but as you are already off the Metformin you might decide to stay off but really need to get your BG down to at least 6.

    Hi diabeticnomore,
Firstly, 8kg gone and 3 inches from the waist are really great results – although I lost the weight OK, it took me far longer than 11 weeks to start losing any inches from my waist, so well done you.

My first plateau happened in week 3 and lasted 2/3 weeks. Whenever they happened, I tended to just stick them out (they do end), but I have heard others suggest shaking up your eating habits a bit, e.g. maybe eating a few more cals for a few days (but not, in your case, carbs) or maybe introducing intermittent fasting. Others may have other suggestions.

As far as your diabetes (and I’m assuming you’re type II) you may need to lower your carb intake more to continue to reduce your blood sugars. I also have Type II diabetes and am now in remission. I did MM’s original 8 week Blood Sugar Diet doing 800 cals and 20g carbs per day. While the BSD book was brilliant, what I learnt from this forum and through other research was the importance of reducing your carb intake as well to get your bgls down. (I don’t think this was emphasised in MM’s original BSD book). In my view, this has to be a consistent reduction in carbs, so I agree with sunshine-girl, if you are eating low-carb for 2 weeks but then eating more carbs for 2 weeks, that’s going to slow down or even stop the reduction of your blood sugar levels. Maybe try 800 cals and low carbs (e.g. 50g carbs, 30g or 20g carbs) daily and see how you go.

I never took Metformin so have no experience of them. What I will say is my bgls started coming down quickly once I started 800 cals and 20g carbs per day i.e. within days to weeks.(I monitored my bgls throughout). I’m sure you can do this you might just need to make a few tweaks.

    thanks for that
I started between 20 and 25 on max metformin
what surprised me is that evn in the 2 weeks off iwould still lose weight and BS went down.
both my diabetic specialist and diabetic nurse were convinced this would not work but they also told me that I must reduce my metformin as the BS went down.
this pateauis at 12 weeks doing 2 weeks on 2 weeks off.

didn’t read about the carbs so will check over the next few days.
    thanks for the info
