Izzy get the Cuisique from Amazon. It has a variety of blades, is gravity aided because you spiralise vertically not horizontally. It also has an integral jug to catch the spiralised food – rather than it landing on your work top or worse still the kitchen floor!!! ๐Ÿ™‚

thanks I’ve had a look and ordered one.

    I had a sudden… wicked idea.

Spiralised courgette, cut into small sections (think…curly fries) seasoned with spices and tossed in a little olive oil.. baked in the oven. Low carb curly fries? omg I actually think I WANT courgette curly fries!

Hi Izzy, you can use the julienne blade with the safety hand grip to make crisps from root veg like beetroot and carrots for a treat for kids/visitors ๐Ÿ™‚

You could also make baked apple and cinnamon crisps if you use the ribbon blade ๐Ÿ™‚

Barby get the Cuisique, the food is fed through vertically rather than horizontally which makes it easier – and the integral jug catches the food! ๐Ÿ™‚

You can spiralise your veg, put it in separate bags in the fridge ( for up to 4 days) then add bits of veg to a stock to make a bulky but low calorie soup as a snack. Or mix the veg for coleslaw but only add some yoghurt and seasonings of choice to the amount you are about to eat – that way it keeps nice and crunchy – not slimy like shop bought!

Ooh and courgetti! I fried onion, chilli, garlic and sweet pepper first then added my courgetti. Then stirred in some cream cheese for a cheap, fast and tasty lunch. You can add whatever you want – fish, meat, cheese.

Hashimoto, that recipe with the garlic and chilli sounds really good! The courgetti take seconds to stir fry but I’ve never thought about baking them in the oven as Izzy suggests – any ideas on temp or time?
Also any advice on butternut squash or sweet potato either with the ribbon blade or as ‘rice’?

I’d guess in the oven maybe 200 and probably 10 mins. I’ll have an experiment and report back ๐Ÿ™‚ I’ll toss them in olive oil and maybe try a little chilli salt …

Not sure about the squash and sweet potato, but I think they are too high carb for me just now. I’d guess you could cook them the same way just maybe a bit longer.

When people use spiral courgette in place of pasta, do you cook it before adding sauce?

Hi. I have a spiraliser but I am very lazy and hardly use it now you can get the spiral veg in the supermarket. Ditto for cauliflower rice. My kitchen would end up covered in the stuff when I made it in the processor.

Bella Italia do spiral veg versions of some of their pastas and they are very nice.

For bargain hunters, the Dexam seems excellent – bought last week for ยฃ15 from Dunelm nearby.
Reasoning was that if I didn’t like it I hadn’t wasted much money.
It’s fab – revolutionary in fact – how I ate all that stodgy pasta for years is baffling.
And easy to use and a simple clean up, once you watch a youtube vid.

Great ideas above – hadn’t got around to using the other two blades yet, or imagining such delights as veg crisps or apple/cinnamon treats.

Becoming an expert in stir frying. Sweet potato added for colour also gives too much sweetness to a dish for my new taste; courgette seems fine alone or with some celeriac, so far.

I got some waitrose mixed spiral veg today, fried some garlic and grated ginger, (from a tip here, thanks – then added the veg for a minute or so as a stir fry. Had it with some frozen quorn (from cottge pie recipe). It was sooo tasty and delicious (and filling)

I am still thinking about a spirializer, or instead a julienne peeler. I don’t really want another gadget with all the blades. I realise the ready done veg will not be as fresh.

I’ve never tried courgetti etc before, and was amazed how nice it was.

    Hashimoto,
I just did my first meal using the Cuisique spiralizer. (which arrived yesterday late afternoon) I did courgetti, and stir fried it in a tiny bit of basil oil, a clove of garlic , a handful of spinach leaves, a few frozen basil leaves crumbled in and a good grind of black pepper….all cooked in less than four minutes….it was really yummy!
Can’t wait to try lots of other combinations of things.
I am really impressed with the machine, thanks for taking the trouble to recommend it on the threads.

Oh fantastic lynne! My sister’s arrived a couple of days ago and she loves the courgetti, in fact sbe prefers it to spaghetti. She also said she wasn’t bloated after it which harks back to the conversation Janet and I had on the forums earlier! How many people don’t know carbs, especially wheat, cause them problems until they stop eating them?

    courgette curly fries….. didn’t really work ๐Ÿ™

I tossed the courgette in olive oil and just salt and pepper, baked in the oven and they don’t go crispy crunchy. If you left them long enough to be crispy crunchy there wouldn’t be any left I guess they are a high water content. On a positive note though they still tasted nice, even my fussy daughter ate some.

Waiting for my new spiralizer to arrive on Tuesday. Been reading the posts and got caught up in the excitement of veggie spiral cookery! Looking forward to trying some new recipes as tend to have the same ol’ stir fry for main meal. No Waitrose where I live in Cumbria, so if I want to eat courgetti need to make it myself. Hope the Cuisique easy to use and clean?

It was delicious. Just had it on its own, not feeling hungry but had to eat something! Courgette and carrot in fridge waiting to be fed to Spiraliser.

Imogen – it is easy to use and clean. Took a few minutes to get used to it, then ok. Just be careful with sharp blades. Much easier to clean than the pencil sharpener type I was using.

Hi Imogen, it’s really easy to clean! The spiky bit which holds the veg unscrews from the handle and you just wash it along with any other pots – I use a scrubby thing (old toothbrush) for the blades cos I don’t want to slice my fingers!! The jug just washes easily too.
Not long to go Imogen!!! ๐Ÿ™‚

I’ve tried mooli and kohlrabi on my spiraliser, both are very good. I do find it can’t really handle celeriac (which I’m sure is too starchy to be allowed anyway). I love the texture of spiralised veg, much nicer than grated.
