Decided to kick off with this.
Last ate 40 hours ago now. Have to say yesterday went a lot better than I expected. Did feel hungry but think it had helped that had just read the book and the research evidence its based on. Went for a walk whilst my OH had his dinner. He accused me of being irritable when I pulled a face when he ate some cheese I’d bought for lunch today…he better replace that by Friday! Have been drinking loads of water, herbal teas the odd coffee with tiny amount of milk and made a spicy tea with chilli, ginger, peppercorns and pinch of salt. Sounds mad but tastes a lot better than some of herbal teas which I’m starting to find insipid. Minus 1.4kg this am which is probably glycogen. Be interested to see how weight loss goes over 4 days.

Gosh Elleteapea, that is very ambitious for the first week! I see from your profile that you are a triathlete so obviously mega-fit! And also that you are an Emergency advanced nurse practitioner – a very stressful and demanding job. Wendleg is another poster on here who incorporates extended fasting, but I don’t think she has done 4 days in a row. Anyway, main message is do take care (and sounds like your husband might need to as well!)

Elleteapea, it fascinates me that you can fast for four days. Is there anything in particular that enables you to do it? I can’t go more than 16hours – and if I don’t eat in my working day I would faint.

Hi fellow fasters (??) Yes, sixturkeys is right.I regularly slot extended fasting into my Week but I built up steadily. 24h is pretty standard as I don’t eat breakfast and can work through lunch. I mix in some 36 hour fasts too. The longest I have done is 72 hours but I wouldn’t do that more than once a month. I know it’s not for everyone and no way am I saying it should be standard practice but I actually enjoy fasting. It makes me feel liberated and empowered as for so long I have felt food controlled me , does that sound weird ?.
I only drink water, green tea and balck coffee and watch my salts but I’m lucky in that I don’ t get wobbly or shaky r have any other adverse effects.Hunger definitely does diminish and is nothing to be feared but I have never gone as long as 4 days.Let us know how you get on, Elleteapea and all the best to you as you start out.

I so admire all of you that have the will to do an extended fast! Since I’m not diabetic, I will defer to those who are, in
determining how this affects BGL’s. I change things up, doing 16:8 on some days, 18:6 on others. One day a week I
push for 22:2, but that is my best outcome so far. I wish I had known about this technique in 2016 when I began!
For those that can do this, you have the confidence of knowing that you’ve done everything possible to mitigate against
loose skin. Brava to all of you, and well done!!!
