Just joined after thinking about this for months. I have 8 weeks until I travel abroad and have decided this is my time. Don’t have a diabetic diagnosis (yet) but am 15 stone and despite being active (over 10K steps a day), I don’t seem to be able to lose any weight. Actually I am 20lbs less than a year ago, but most of that was lost 11 months ago!

I know the basics, and have the book. I think it is just the motivation to keep going that I need and I am hoping that this forum will help me. Of course happy to help others too.
Have planned my next three days food: love having eggs for breakfast, especially with avocado or mushrooms or smoked salmon. I think the big change for me will be accepting that a 800 cal max will get me there quicker and keep me more motivated, rather than slow and steady which gets boring!
I think I also have to increase my 10K steps by 10% each week, as my body seems to be used to what I do now. Anyone else have that experience?
I have been feeling tired and lethargic recently and am worried that I am pre-diabetic. Don’t have time to get to the GP to check.

    Big welcome Aluap.

Best move you’ve made, keep drinking plenty and get a little salt to keep any side effects away, and in a few weeks you will feel amazing, I was very fortunate and had no side effects, and felt Bril after 18 hours, planning is the key, and if you have iPhone get the free myfitnesspal app to count your 800 cals and try to keep your carbs below 50 a day for a speedy improvement .

But welcome to the BSD forum, there’s always someone here for support or a snigger. Keep us posted. 😊 Jan

Lucky lucky! 😘🐣Back on the wagon me tomorrow too – I’m with you! Glad you had a lovely time on your holidays, sounds lovely and so much walking 👏🏻👏🏻And still kept most of the plan going – pretty great!! Whatever about gains- probably extra drinks as you said which is the easy not to fix so I wouldn’t worry.

I Slipping a bit too – it’s hard after the 8 weeks are over I’m finding!! some delicious breaD over last few days as away and also granola for breakfast a few mornings so as someone mentioned a few posts ago I’ll probably have to start again on the whole getting over the carbs again 💪🏽💪🏽🙀😳 so annoying but ah well, it will be painful Bu hopefully short lived!!😝👊 chats tomorrow!

Good work everyone else in the middle of their 8 weeks – great results by all! 👏🏻👏🏻 Results are so motivating, I’ll just have to set a goal again I think. Was losing about 1kg+ a week on average in the 9 weeks so would like to get bs k to that. About 9kg still to go though would be in the healthy bracket in about 6 I think. Onwards anyway – think will go back to the book recipes!! 😂👏👏💪🏽

PAUL this is Lucky Maneki’s recipe from her blog…not sure about salt n vinegar ones tho..my idea of hell,i cant stand vinegar!
Hopefully someone else can help x good luck tomorrow! Hope it goes well x

    For the Chickpea wraps/pancakes:
5 oz Besan (Gram flour/Chickpea flour)
    Water
    1 tbsp Olive oil
Seasoning of choice – salt, pepper, spices, chilli flakes

Put the flour into a bowl and add the water gradually, whisking until you have a reasonably thin batter. This will start cooking instantly so don’t worry if you think it’s too thin.

Heat a non stick frying pan and add a ladle of the batter, swirling around to coat the bottom of the pan. Cook for a few minutes before turning over.

I make these quite often (not salt and vinegar – equally a yuk reaction from me on that)

All I would add is that the gram flour batter sets like concrete – rinse the bowl you’ve mixed the batter in straight away, or at least fill it with cold water and clean it when you’ve eaten. I left a bowl on the side, chucked it in the dishwasher which I didn’t run immediately – absolute nightmare to remove the last vestiges of batter, and I think the heat of the dishwasher had made it set harder.

I’ve put a recipe in that section (Pomlette) for a cross between a gram flour pancake and an omelette, which I really enjoy and have often too.

    Hi Ruthdownunder
How’s the walking going, has your sciatica settled down?
I’ve found that since I’ve lost weight and am walking every day that my back is heaps better than what it has been in the past. I’m afraid to stop now!!

Jan, how’s your walking going? Increased your steps yet? Good to see you’re going head to head with Lucky this week. That’ll keep you motivated!!

Stay well everyone, that’s why we’re doing this😀
    Cheers

Gosh I missed a fair bit last night! Had a friend over for a catch up and she stayed a bit longer than anticipated. First things first – 0.7 of the 2.7kg has vanished by this morning 🙂 So that’s a relief to see the scales going in the right direction again. Thank you all for the butt kicking yesterday and making sure I didn’t have any excuses not to start again immediately 😀

Josie, we do go to the beach but not often, and we don’t hire a beach hut. I’m not a beach lover in sitting all day long there, about 3 hours the whole holiday does me fine, but I do have to think about the kids too and not be a killjoy. I think because we’re surrounded by beaches where we live the novelty value isn’t there so much for them? Have a lovely time in France and be good (but not too good 😉 )

Glad I’m not duelling you this week Janey, although have the impression Jan is going to give me a run for my money. On that note, remember me telling you my band clasp had broken off while camping? Woke up this morning to find another piece has clean snapped off the band, a good inch and a half. I’m not impressed at all, it’s been held together by a hair bobble and if I can find the box and receipt, it’ll be going back to Currys the minute we get the car back. I know I can buy one at half the original price now, and even cheaper if I go second hand but that’s not the point when it’s not even 8 months old, is it? Did you have dessert or cheese?

Welcome Aluap – that sounds perfect, 8 weeks to holiday, 8 weeks for the plan 😀 I am not one usually for forums, but I do have to stress that there’s no way I would still be on this without the support and friendship and superior knowledge of the others here. This thread was only to say ‘Hello’, I didn’t expect more than 4 or 5 replies and it grew wheels and took off in a sometimes very hilarious direction. Losing weight is hard but it’s made a lot easier with an injection of fun 🙂 You can buy strips from Morrisons (and probably elsewhere) that test your pee, they weren’t too expensive, think about £3 for 3?

Yowzer???? Harvest knickers??? That is priceless!

Ahhhh lovely Eps, did you miss me?? You’re doing so well, and so close to goal. You know how to do it, keep it simple. I’ve decided to take it right back to the start again, mentally. I hope the next round of carb flu isn’t so bad for you but you know, it will pass. I found I was wickedly hungry yesterday, almost as if I’d regained my old style appetite, which isn’t good. I probably went a little over my calories, maybe 1000 maximum, and I could have battled Jan for the next scabby rat lol 😀

Hi Paul, welcome and good luck for today’s start 🙂 The recipe I adapted from this forum, it’s in the recipes somewhere but I find the wraps are nicer made fresh, I don’t like them cold or when they’ve been frozen, so I make a smaller mixture. The chickpeas are also in the recipes somewhere, I’ll hunt a link down. They were just tinned chickpeas, soaked in vinegar and then roasted. They were nice and a little different but to be honest with you, I’m happy with a few nuts now. A lot simpler. But it’s good to try things and experiment to see what works for you.

Frog – yep, lesson learned myself there lol, rinse bowl immediately. It’s such a fetching shade of… murkiness when it ‘sets’ isn’t it? Ooooh a pomlette! Sounds intriguing 🙂

Hi Linda, I get the feeling I’m going to be whooped by Jan this week… 😉 She is a lady on a mission. I’m in a lot of pain since arriving back from camping, it’s like it held off for me that week. But I won’t let that deter me. It’s good to hear that someone is getting relief from losing weight, I do admit that my back is slightly better since losing this first two stone ish, but my hips and knee are now hurting in its place. This could be because of the increased walking, I’m walking more now than I have done in decades. But as I say, it won’t deter me.

    Dissertation over… 😀

You’re doing so well Gavin 🙂 and you’re still getting naysayers??? You know, if someone were to try BSD and find it wasn’t for them, and that they personally couldn’t survive on such a low calorie diet, that’s one thing and that would be unique to them. But to dismiss it out of hand without reading the book or trying it themselves first, when there’s so many people out there successfully losing weight and dramatically improving their health, they only have to read this forum. How many more people are out there following the plan who aren’t on this forum and never will be?

I am really, really hungry this morning, I think this may be my payback for my little indulgences over the last week. I haven’t known hunger like this since before BSD. When I can make a 300/400 calorie meal and feel so full that I have to leave some of it on the plate, to feeling hunger like I used to before, like I could clear a man sized plate of food. I rarely feel hungry in the morning usually, maybe it’s because I’ve been eating breakfast while away? Time for a coffee and some water methinks.

Yes they are indeed 🙂 I was thinking back to what you said yesterday about water retention? When I arrived home after my eventful 2 and a half hour journey… lol… I went to the loo and I weighed myself, even though it was late in the afternoon by then, but knew I could gauge how bad the damage was. As I slipped off my sandals, my feet were puffy. There was the actual shape of the sandal embedded in my swollen feet (if that makes sense). And my husband reminded me that this happened to me in Paignton last year too, my left foot in particular was monstrous after we’d pounded the beat for miles and miles. So it must be something that happens when I walk a lot and it’s lady pound time? I don’t know. I’m not good with biological things or why the body does what it does. Unless it really interests me, I don’t retain details of things, I’m ashamed to say.

Yep, got a nice strong coffee now with just a dash of milk. Tidying up before the birthday well wishers. Four birthdays, precisely 2 months apart. No sooner do one set of cards come down than another lot go up. And it’s a glorious day too! Sun is shining, it’s warm, blue skies! I’m off to put three lots of drying backlog on the line and that’s all the camping washing done 🙂

I can’t wait to see your before and after pictures 🙂 That should shut them up! I have some shocking ones of me on my 40th that I can use for my before, unfortunately.

Morning all from sunny Devon. Lucky, even I noticed that the Appetite increases massively if I overindulge in bad stuff. Had a blip a couple of weeks ago (can’t even remember what I ate) but for 2-3 days after I was starving! It’ll settle down pretty quick though..

Shared the toffee pudding with the OH last night. Half a sin was better than a whole one, and I couldn’t eat the ice cream as was just too sickly sweet. I’m on holiday so I’m not beating myself up; just applying the BSD principles as much as possible without ruining my and everyone else’s fun!!

Right, that’s good to know Janey! I am absolutely famished, am going to make myself a drink of Hot Bovril (although it’s roasting hot here) (for Wales anyway) to give me the illusion of having had something savoury. I can’t ‘waste’ calories on breakfast, not when I feel like this, or it’s going to be a bloody long day I tell you!

Yep still walking with the up as I find that much easier, I dropped my phone and broke the screen on one of my walks it fell out of my waistband as I didn’t have a pocket, so hence why my husband got me an up it will be okay unless my arm falls of 😱 But I must admit the walking takes your energy levels onto another level doesn’t it. My husband said yesterday, for goodness sake will you ever sit down, you are like you’ve got fleas in your pants, hehe nope just loving feeling alive on the BSD, after all these years of feeling nigh on dead, needless to say went over my 10,000 yesterday.

Are you nearly at target yet, I know you haven’t much more to go. Keep up the good work.

Lucky, Jan, Yowser, Gavin, Frog, everyone…Huge, huge thanks to all you lovely kind people for birthday wishes and supportive messages!!!

Had lovely and very lazy day yesterday, strolling through the Lingholm estate gardens, sitting out on the jetty on Derwentwater, fabulous lunch (amazing bean, courgette and chorizo stew – yum) on cafe terrace. Resisted sweet temptations – no cake, no bread, no alcohol, so all good! Bit low on steps though😕

Frog – I currently live in Allerdale, Cumbria, just outside the Lake District National Park. So am surrounded by beautiful hills and near the lakes.
Gavin – I spent my childhood in Devon, lived in Bradninch, Tiverton, Teignmouth, Exmouth. Spent lots of time up on the moors…Duke of Edinburghs awards, pony trekking at Princetown, night exercises with the Royal Marines. Ok, that sounds far far naughtier than the reality😉…i used to volunteer with the Red Cross and attend training sessions with the new recruits/cadets.

Please forgive if I’ve missed anyone or not responded directly….overwhelmed by the speed on the thread…can’t keep up😵…slow processor (me, not the computer!)

Still chuckling over the ‘harvest knickers’.

    Hi Leo and welcome!

May I suggest you get an app such as MyFitnessPal which will enable you to both record your weight and measurements, but also your food.

It is really helpful in noting everything you eat and also in planning meals.

Hello Imogen, so glad you had a lovely birthday and well done for not succumbing to the naughty bits 🙂 Sounds like you had a really nice day out 🙂 Night exercises with the Royal Marines huh…? Where is Janey and her filth radar when you need her… hahaha 😉

Hello Leo 🙂 Second what Igor says, I use MFP to record weight and get food info but I also use a word document to track my details. I am woman. I like lists. I weigh daily and I record that weight every day, my overall weekly weight loss, weekly BMI change and whenever I measure myself. Find it easier to call up what I need instantly. That programme had an impact on my husband too, I think the penny dropped that although he looks, feels and acts younger than he is (54), how young you are mentally (I’m not making him sound good here, am I? 😉 ) doesn’t correspond with how young your body is. Like it or not his body is 54 and it hasn’t been treated very well over the decades. He’d already been following the plan for a good few weeks before we watched the programme, and I think it hit home as to why he should be doing it, and he really committed to it then, rather than just doing it to support me. Best of luck and remember, if you have any questions do ask, someone will probably know or have an idea who to ask, it’s been a quiet day today here, for a wonder!

Jan, take advantage of my serious back spasms and get out and walk walk walk 😉 I spoke too soon about my back not being so bad and oh my days I have been in absolute agony today, back, hip and leg. One of my ‘frown days’ as I call them, where the pain is so bad, my face is set in a permanent grimace. I think today alone has aged me five years. Pain relief has left me muzzy headed and I’ve had to deal with family and friends all day as it’s daughter’s birthday. I just wanted to tell them all to sod off… my bad…

Car has been serviced, and the problem has been located. I’m sat here muttering ‘How much’ to myself, just to give you an indication of the money I’ll be handing over tomorrow. Sob.

Hope it all settles down soon – stress of all that washing you mentioned had my own back hurting in sympathy!! Maybe you need some relaxing recovery time too. Sometimes people often need holidays after holidays!! What’s that thing that to be really happy people need to plan one holiday a yeAr but not go on it😂😂😂 the planning is good for the head but the stress of actually going isn’t😝 Though I’m mostly joking as you sounded like you had a great time.

Day going well here, eggs for breakfast, tuna and trusty sauerkraut for lunch (and some 85%chocolate) and cauliflower rice and curry for dinner -yum. Toast tempted me this morning , all glistening and buttery but I said Nooooooo to the toast!!💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽 win I say.

    JaneA hi

I think I had better put this thread on my email. I could not find you again. I got really sore from something, and have been only doing little walks since. Neurologist said Op would probably work for me after looking at my MRI pics, and said go away and think about for a few months. So I told him I would come back lighter if I needed to.

Lucky I feel for you. I think part of my problem was the anti-inflammatories as well as a bad day.

I am such a slow loser I cannot afford set backs.

I have passionfruit in my garden and I just found out from MFP they are quite high carbs. I think they are wrong and wrong for strawberries too. Does anyone else think this? They told me 96gms of carb for 3 small fruit. They would not weigh that much with the skin on!

First what soup is on the video? tried to think what ingredient is in that little pot? The soup is a Gav Special Soup, with flax seeds in the pot.

What are the 2 meals on the 2nd row before the no ploughmans ? meal 1 is salmon with red chilly, cauliflower, brocoli, and swede , meal 2 is lamb koftas (sainsburys very low fat ones) with a salad mix (cucumber, seeds, raisins, tomato, cannelloni beans)

And then all 3 meals on bottom row? meal 1 is chicken with a mustard topping, veg, swede / meal 2 is turkey burgers (low carb/low fat ones) with a salad mix similar to above but with mint) / meal 3 is salmon fillet with veg (salmon has mustard top)

Morning everyone, another early one for me, I was in bed very early last night though and had an unbroken night’s sleep, if very much on the light side (5 hours 1 light, 2 hours 48 of sound) so I still feel exhausted! The good news is that after yesterday’s 0.7kg weight loss, I am down a further 0.8kg by this morning. So in two days of being back on the BSD, I have shifted 1.5kg of my 2.7kg holiday weight gain. So all you holiday returnees, do not fret, it can be undone, quickly and simply. I haven’t woken up with the hunger this morning either!

Hello Eps 🙂 Thank you lovely, yes, it was a chore to do, especially the first two days back when it wasn’t drying outside! That was bare minimum camping laundry too, I cannot put into words what my washing pile is like when the six of us go away to Devon for two weeks. The place we stay in is nice but it has no washing machine and laundrettes are so expensive 😮 I think I need to find somewhere new for next year. Yes, we had a fab time, only for the car issue 😀 Well done on avoiding the toast, I had toast yesterday, but Elana’s rye bread toasted with scrambled egg 😉 Hahaha Eps, I think a potato looks pretty good to EVERYONE on Bsd at some point in the week. Usually in the form of chips or crisps 😉

Awww Janey, I hope your calves feel better by tomorrow. They won’t though. Ouch. Just Googled Clovelly it looks beautiful. I’m wondering whether to put it to hubby to stay in South Devon for a week and then up North for a week next year, makes sense to mix it up a bit while you’re actually there. The most important thing – what flavour ice cream?

Hi Kirstie – welcome 🙂 Keep going, the crappy effects vary from day to day and once you’ve seen the end of week 3 (or possibly earlier) you should feel better than you have done in years, lighter, healthier (if you’re on BSD for health reasons) and sleeping better.

Thanks Yowzer 🙂 and Gavin 🙂 and Jan 🙂 Feeling a bit better this morning, still sore, but it’s like a residual soreness. Feel bruised, like I’ve been kicked really hard in my bum. Sort of like the leftover sensation after having a muscle cramp? Dosed up on codeine and ibuprofen pre-emptively as I am going to hopefully attempt a walk today, in real life, outdoors and not on a machine!

Hi Ruth, so they will operate then? What’s your gut feeling on what you’re going to do? At least they’ve given you time to mull it over and you don’t have to decide on the spot. A garden with passionfruit, I live in the wrong place. Although I have to say, I picked the most divine tomatoes for my salad last night, my son actually remembered to water them while away so they weren’t dead, there were loads of ripe ones on the vines. And tonight’s tea was made with homegrown chillies. I have some variety of strawberry but they are tiny and a few of those are ripe. And the blackberries are starting to ripen too. That and a big herb selection is the best I can do this year 🙂

TOKYOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! Welcome back! I have missed you loads, not the same on Twitter with 8 hours between our replies lol 🙂

You absolute sod! I put on 2.7 kg and I only had one sandwich, one cake, one scoop of ice cream, half a small portion of chips and a couple of pints of lager! Maybe I shouldn’t have been so restrained…? Just goes to show, doesn’t it?

Of course you can do it, and there’s a fair few of us in the after-holiday mode at the moment, and a fair few who will be in the next couple of weeks too! That 3lb will be gone this time next week, if not before.

Back is a little better thanks, although my leg and hip were really causing problems yesterday, couldn’t bend, walk properly, sit down, stand up from a sitting position lol. Looked a bit of a picture. Don’t envy the washing, I reached the end of mine yesterday 🙂 x

Lovely here too, second day in a row. Yippee! Chicken and Chorizo stew here for us tonight with cabbage and a slice of Eps’s bread. I know, I was shaking my head when he told me 0.1 kg. He had a burger on a bap when I had mine on a plate AND he had a cornet with his ice cream lol. Git.

I’m having a short weighing week this week, from Sunday to Friday. Then back to normal Saturday weigh until Norfolk wedding mid september. It’s closer than I realised, I’m going to have to book our accommodation and look for outfits for us all! Order my dress too.

It’s amazing how sickly some things are now, isn’t it? I didn’t find it with the ice cream (but it was coffee so…) but the icing and buttercream in the slice of cake, and the other week, the cheesecake base? Oh, no thank you. Far, far too much for me now. Instead of birthday cake last night, I defrosted one of my chocolate muffins and had that warmed with the scoop of Oppo I didn’t have the other night and that was more than enough sweetness. Just looking at the chocolate birthday cake with all that chocolate cream on was making me feel a bit nauseous to be honest, I’d have felt sick as a dog after it! What a difference 10 weeks makes!

Morning Smp 🙂 Can’t go far wrong with a chicken salad 🙂

Lucky, sounds lush! I aim to bake those muffins in the books and freeze for my treats lol
I really need the desire for sweet stuff to DIE in me, so that I too, can say, like you, and others, too sweet!

Over killed the chicken sald tho with mayo, reading jar cals etc at 7am prob isn’t my best way to do, so added more than necessary and so leaves little room for later…but we will manage

That stew sounds absolutely positively devine. Is it your own version or one online?

Have you noticed I am a recipe / menu collector lol
